Nice! BTW, (for other viewers) TDR Nova will do this, splitting the mids and sides, but so will another free plugin called MSED. MSED allows you to mute either the mid or the sides, or adjust their gain separately if you still want a little in the middle. It's not an eq, it just gives you the options I mentioned, plus indicators of stereo width and phase correlation. Very useful plugin.
@hrdsht5 ай бұрын
Adding onto this, theres one more plugin named OSL SIDE EFFECTS. Which lets u eq mid side separately, balance the levels, compress them separately and saturate mid sides separately. Got it free as a promotion from plugin boutique, nice tool

I’ve used this trick for ages now (i will say that i usually go for a micro shift these days, but i still got this plugin as an option on the tracks), but using mid side processing to only apply it to the sides is next level, I’ll be stealing that!
@enderbender4295 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's wild (the use of the EQ to create that effect). Is it officially called "mid side processing"?
@CreativeMindsAudio5 ай бұрын
@@enderbender429 yes it’s a technique where you have a plugin that separates the signal that is the same in both speakers (mid) from what is different in each speaker (sides). It’s been around for ages and i don’t use it nearly enough because i don’t have much use for it by itself, mastering engineers sometimes use it a lot. I often use it to do things that effect mostly the low end since it is often only in the mids, but this is almost the opposite of that.
@jamzdrumz1413 ай бұрын
If you would like the chorus effect to only affect the sides and not the phantom centre, load up a BX control plug-in on the dimension D auxiliary and solo the sides channel prior to the chorus effect. P.S Another great idea is to add the chorus effect to the early reflections, to increase the width and size of the space surrounding the vocal. Increasing the immersive effect of the spatial processing… Hope this helps, Cheers, Jamie

This has been my go-to trick for instantly getting a vocal in a more interesting space in every mix I do. I have a Dim-D send in my template and its the first thing I add when I start mixing. The UAD one is great. The Arturia one is great. Microshift by Soundtoys is great. I haven't done the M/S trick with Pro-Q but I've done similar with Center by Waves and it works so well.

Amazing! I've always searched for that chorused, yet consistent vocal sound, like you hinted with the thumbnail, there's a lot of that in The Weeknd sound. Also with the band Phoenix, (take Role Model for example), they achieve a similar result, yet with more delays and what not, it would be cool if you could elaborate more on that; indie pop vocals (Phoenix, Still Woozy, Omar Apollo) cheers!

Does the uad chorus D come with the subscription?
@ericktellez76325 ай бұрын
So let me get it straight you took the sides signal from the vocals and added the chorus effect to them and then using a send to another track got the dry signal and basically did a parallel mix and to that mix added the reverb at the end correct? The only question I have is if it wouldn’t have been better to bounce a mid section only and mix that with the sides since the dry signal being sent also has the unprocessed sides information and mixing in parallel with the processed sides could cause phase issues? I’m not sure However

Any reason to not put the reverb effects etc. directly on the Vocal Bus track stack? Rather than routing what is a essentially already a vocal bus to another bus for effects?

Nothing to do with you chap, but modern pop music is so crap... no melodic interest or development in the vocals, no harmonic interest in the music, no interesting rhythms... pure soul-numbing rubbish, no wonder the younger generation are all so depressed and apathetic. Compare that to something like "The Carpenters - We've Only Just Begun" from the 70s (I'm only 33 years old, so don't think I'm an old-timer just hating anything modern). Our world is being destroyed from every direction.

The focus is on something else. Melody and harmony are less important than texture and sound design, although if you ask me I think there's no reason to neglect either. Young people are depressed because the economy is collapsing and the world has only a few decades left for human survival. Music is not one of the greatest worries we have.
@Sebastian_Baran6 ай бұрын
It's literally just the lyrics and the spirit behind the singer. Nearly everything is demonic and devoid of meaning. People don't or can't write good lyrics because they don't have anything good to talk about. So yes music today is technically very pleasing from an engineering standpoint, but there is simply no soul to the song
@AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE6 ай бұрын
@@Sebastian_Baran The music is terrible beyond just the singer(s). You've got pop tracks up until the late 90s and early 2000s that would still require a real musician to compose and perform, now there's almost nothing there... Michael Jackson's Unbreakable album from the early 2000s is chock full of beautiful chord progressions and harmony - whenever I am inadvertently exposed to modern day pop music, it makes me feel like being in a slave factory.
