Awesome video man. One thing to note is that since pigs turn into werepigs during full moons, it is wise to keep your camp at least a couple of screens from the pig villages. That being said, you probably did this video before the introduction of werepigs. Good video and keep up the good work!
@VitaminEgo11 жыл бұрын
No, they were there, but you don't have to worry about them if you live in a pig village, as they won't turn if they're able to return to their houses in time. If you ever do come across them through, just make a torch and run until the sun comes up. It works well enough.

The wiki actually recommends NOT using a panic room (the idea of enclosing yourself and killing hounds with traps) because you end up relying on it too much and that impedes on your ability to do anything else as more and more hounds start to appear. You can easily end up being trapped in the panic room just because the hounds won't stop coming and you haven't left yourself another way of dealing with them.
@xXDarkxIdealsXx10 жыл бұрын
That's why you build an escape route, what I like to do is put the long tooth trap filled hallway type thing like he does, but at the back where it opens into a circle of wall, you put one hay or wood piece at the very back, which is much easier to destroy, so you can just bash or burn that piece away and run if they get past the traps. And if you're scared of the small possibility that the hounds will slip around back and burn the hay/wood piece to get in you can put a defense mechanism in your "secret exit" as well, such as more tooth traps leading up to the back wall, or in my case I plant a lureplant not far from the back exit so that I can carefully slip past the eyeball enemies but a mindless hound will just end up stepping right into them. If you can access the ruins, putting a Houndius Shootius Turret near the front is immensely helpful as well. A good backdoor setup would be like this (T = tooth trap, S = stone # = wood/hay wall "exit") TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT SSSSSSSSS#SSSSSSSS S S S S S S S S S TTTT S S TTTS STS STS STS STS STS STS STS STS STS Turret Turret (Optional)

@HyperTraceur11 жыл бұрын
If you are in your camp inside of a pig village, the pigs will not turn into werepigs because the dusk will give them more than enough time to get to their house where they can't turn. BUT if you are away and are too late to get to your camp before a full moon, stay away. The pigs will not have went inside of their house because of them being off screen can make them not do anything and just stay outside which will inevitably lead to werepigs.

This is not a default world. Look at his day/night cycle. Long day and short night? Lol. I have survived to day 400 and keep going on without too many farms and without having pigs killed. My tip is simple. You need food? Build 10 pig houses or more around some ponds, any frog showing up will attack pig and will be immediately killed. Go collect frog legs and dry them for winter. Build some beeboxs and crock pot for better foods. You need protection? In day, let pigs kill hounds. In night, simply run around and wait till day or you cand buid a trap system as he does. You need silks (and monster meet)? Plant an spider den near pig houses and let them fight together. Those methods cost very litle resources and time.

Firstly, I’ve watched a few beginner guides at this point and this one is easily one of the best. Other guides talk about really advanced stuff like some sort of thesaurus crown or some shit, I dunno. Way too advanced for people just starting the game. This guide focuses on early game strategies that we can actually wrap our head around and understand. But what I think really sells this guide is the deadpan, quiet, monotone voice-over that fits the style of the game so well. Overall, man: great guide. Definitely the best I’ve come across so far!

Can also feed excess berries to the pigs. Every vegtable they eat, including berries that you should have in excess, will cause them to produce one manure. As well, you can unplug a sinkhole into the caves. Each night that sinkhole will spawn bats, which in turn leave behind guano come morning. Guano is identical to manure except for being unable to be used in crafting farm plots.

Now, the dragonfruit tip at the end, is one of the best tips that I know about. Also, this is worth knowing: If you hang meat to dry on a drying rack or cook something in the crockpot, if you then just leave the food there, it will actually NEVER spoil. So, having a ton of drying racks and crockpots are really worth it. Cook/dry something and don't take it before you need it. Hope these tips helped!

Here's a really handy tip I learned; When building structures, including science machines, you can build it, but not place it. This consumes the resources needed to create the structure, thus giving you more space to gather more resources. Best thing about this trick, is in adventure mode you can use this tip to create as many structures as you need, and carry them through to the next level, effectively having a pre-built base every level. Enjoy!

Ur on easy mode and no wearpigs
@VitaminEgo11 жыл бұрын
It's not easy mode. I don't know if there's an "easy mode" now, but there wasn't when I played. I just shortened the night for this character because the game gets too boring with longer nights. The game is just as easy to survive whether the night is long or short. My other videos have everything on default, and with me hardly even concentrating on the game, in a crap world, I'm still able to survive well enough. I'd suggest turning the nights down if you plan on doing a long play, as it gives you more time to explore and have fun with the game. Longer nights don't make it more difficult to survive, they just make the game very boring after a short time, as you're left doing nothing for a larger portion of your time.
@HyperTraceur11 жыл бұрын
***** I see your point but it kinda does make the game harder to survive in. Shorter night means a torch can last you 2 or 3 nights, so you don't even need a campfire to rely on. Longer night means more resources to burn off for 2 torches or a campfire. Also, longer night means you can be pretty screwed to a small enclosure if you are fighting something (hounds, treeguards, pigs, etc). So, it does make the game harder in terms of losing a bit of resources or bad fighting conditions. Only upside to it that i can think of is bunnymen are out longer (good, if you are exploiting them), or for catching fireflies since you can stay out longer to catch more of them. Also, if you seriously can't stand long nights, use a tent.
@MStruebizz10 жыл бұрын
***** Shorter night makes sanity a joke to maintain, thus easy mode.
@VitaminEgo10 жыл бұрын
MStruebizz Sanity isn't a problem either way. My other videos are played on default, and the game is still very easy for me. I haven't found anything that makes the game difficult, only boring. Shorter nights lessen the wait times, making the game a little less boring. You could alter things and take away practically all resources, long nights etc., but then there would be no point in playing. It wouldn't be difficult, just impossible. In my opinion, this is an easy game. How you play should be determined by how easily you become bored with games. I get bored fairly quickly, so if I want to do a long play on a game, I need to adjust things to keep me entertained.

Just a little tip: -explore by he border of the map the first 7 days,also make a back pack and a spear,you will be safer,and will be able to explore the rest of the map easier bc you.know where it ends ->localize pig village,spider den for future farming,a forest,a mine zone,a cementery,swamp,and the beefalos Mostly hard to found but try and find clockwork enemys,you will need the gears to make a refrigerator For you early base you will need A cience machine,or a alchemy one A crock pot A chest A firepit And a place to put you dry meat Also,if possible A farm,a bird cage whit a bird,a refrigerator,and a pararrayos When you have the second tier cience machine you can break the another one,since you will not use it If you only want to survive winter,you can relly on eating monster meat mixed whit sticks and carrots in the crockpot and having a lot of wood to burn (yet,deerclops will kick your ass) But if you wanna explore you will need something to protect you from the cold Anything like a winter hat,a beefalo hat,a koalefant trunk thingy,or even the wilson beard Also,a thermal stone

All of those who are saying that to not base near pigs, you are kind of wrong. THIS VIDEO was UPLOADED BEFORE werepigs were introduced. So for now, the best place to build near is the Desert, if you're in DST, or in a place biomes are close to each other. EDIT: I'm not mad.

I thought the whole point of Don't Stave is try to find the portal to the next world/chapter so you can beat the game. Building a macho camp seems like a waste of time. However, the only problem I'm facing right now is to keep my character's sanity up. That's difficult, because it naturally and slowly goes down for some reason.

This might help you a little, in the world there are 3 kinds of mushrooms, each has a pro and con, for example: One could put your sanity up, but bring your health down It's not the best way to get your stats up, but it's still a way Not sure which mushroom does what so you'd have to look it up on the WiKi

Sanity goes down naturally at night. at the beginning of the game, pick 12 flowers and make a garland hat, which should get you through. after your initial base is setup, crock pot food will help with sanity so that you don't need the garland.
@2011October1411 жыл бұрын
picking up flowers gives you sanity pretty quick
@slateknight111 жыл бұрын
people always give you the option to pick flowers, but long term that's a terrible idea for finding butterflies. make a couple drying racks, and hang up small jerkys from rabbits, and the jerky gives you 10 sanity per, also a very SIMPLE item to get is a top hat. 6 silk, you can get that by using about 2 traps to clean out just 2 spider nests. researching new items also gives you 15 sanity, so maybe wait to research items when you're a bit low on sanity.
@jaco5five6six11 жыл бұрын
for the winter you might want to get a fuzzy hat which takes four beefallo hairs an two or four silks that helps with sanity like the garland and keeps you warm for a longer time before you freeze. I've had a difficult time finding that elephant type of animal in Don't Starve because i want to make a winter cote. where can i find it?
@CommissarKozlov10 жыл бұрын
Guys, werepigs aren't that big of an issue. I've only ever had one problem with them and I still survived. Sanity was about 1/3 drained but that can easily be fixed if you eat cooked green mushrooms. You will find that pig villages are the ideal place to set up camp and the only down side is the full moon, which isn't all that common anyway.

Another good tip is to use small animal traps to more easily clear out higher level spider dens, the spiders follow in a straight line, so lay down one or two traps on the edge of the webbing and then step in to bring them out, after they get aggro, step past the traps and the spiders will walk straight into them, leaving you to stunlock kill the last spider per round, three rounds and the nest (for tier 3 at least) will be empty, leaving you to kill the nest with almost or no damage. Doing this also stops the spider warriors coming out (as they only come out if you hit the nest while there are still spiders inside).

You may consider gathering enough food to last you for a few days, get a weapon, maybe a piece of armor, some torches, materials to make fire, anything else that you may find useful, and go exploring for a few days, searching all the corners of your world for chess biome patches (usually, these are found around the pieces you use to activate the portal, and the portal itself). Pigs transform on full moon, but not if they are in houses, so keeping your pigs close to their home at night will make them go inside and not transform at all on full moon (I believe). The other way they could go into rage mode and try and eat your face off is if they eat 3 pieces of monster meat one after another. They can hardly be kept from eating the meat that falls on the ground when the hounds/spiders die, but they rarely transform from that and there usually is only 1 or 2 that do.

Living in a pig village for the protection is one thing but if you want food (easy food btw) you want to settle in a savana patch with beefalo and bunnies, so you can set traps and get easy morsels and fill your pockets with manure to sustain crops, with a decent berrybush set you can make meatballs with every morsel you gather [0.5 meat + 3 fillers (no sticks) = meatballs]. and when the hounds come you can kite them to the beefalo long enough for them to start atacking the beefalo and the war begins. Every once in a while you can track down a koalephant and get real meat and trunks. That's what i do anyway and got me to day 269 before i was killed by a shadow when insane.

Ideally you'd want to set up base near Beefalo AND pigmen. Keep in mind to not tame pigmen during the night of a full moon, as pigs caught outside of their houses will turn to werepigs. Also, are you playing with shortened dusk/night for demonstration purposes?
@CrashDunning9 жыл бұрын
In my current world, my base is on a peninsula that is impossible to get to without having to go through a Beefalo herd AND a tribal pig torch camp. I can just run to those if anything bad comes.
@Quanzy100011 жыл бұрын
The best place to have a base is a desert (savana) biome. The reason is that there are TONS of rabbit holes and grass. There are also Beefalos spawning. Place tons of traps, capture rabbits and keep them alive until you need food. Collect tons of grass. Can never have too much of anything. And then, the beefalos. They give you manure and you can also shave/kill them for wool. Kill for meat. They are also one of the best form of protection against hounds and other enemies.

On thing he didn't mention about crock pots are that they are actually pretty good if you know yer recipes. I would suggest taking all of your berries and cooking as many as possible in there to make fist full of jams which is a considerably great food item. It restores half of your hunger at most and stays fresh for a while. The recipe is: 4 regular berries. Then you put em in the crock pot and wait for it to be done.
@Maxwell740710 жыл бұрын
Im sorry to drop this on you, but eating 4 roasted berries yields 50 hunger, 5 health. While a fist full of jam only nets you 37,5 hunger and 5 health (+5 sanity but that comes with most dishes). Thats a net waste of 12,5 hunger points. Only do this if the berries are close to spoiled, or if you REALLY need that sanity boost (hint: you don't.) Hope this helps!
@blazingscore00410 жыл бұрын
Mark Lauth Nørregaard Christensen Meatballs are my primary recipe. They give a decent amount of hunger, plus they are really easy and quick to make! (Any meat + 3 of any ingredients)
@Maxwell740710 жыл бұрын
blazingscore004 I agree, after getting a crock pot up and running i always use spare carrots and berries along with a single morsel (or monster meat) to make meatballs. The recipe is arguably one of the best and flexible in the game, yielding 62,5 hunger points, 5 health and 5 sanity.
@blazingscore00410 жыл бұрын
im not sure tho, but monster meat might "contaminate" the recipe and turn it into monster lasagna.
@Maxwell740710 жыл бұрын
blazingscore004 Nope, as long as the recipe only contains 1 monster meat or durian (fruit equivalent), monster lasagna will NEVER be produced, only if you put in 2 or more. If you're having trouble figuring out the limits i would suggest going to the wiki and checking up on recipes and their restrictions.

I friggen found the Maxwell's door and skipped it, no knowing.... I'm sure I'll find it again, but thanks for the Video, I can't wait to et started on my next game.

Lighning rods. put them near anything you don't want to get burned. tuft/stick/bush farms, chests, and drying racks, are important and lightning caused fires will ruin your day. also food will spoil in the crockpots and drying racks for the DLC version of the game.

An extra tip is set your setting to default plus as you got some loot to start you off then make a back pack and then find a pig villege i survived 700 days doing that

Actually, this video is useless (sorry OP) because it ignores a lot of small things. The strategy to find beefalo is right, but you main enemy is incoming winter and with so small night, this becomes no problem. I recommend to watch a small series by RandomKitten, search words "don't starve survival". But tip with dragonfruit is very valuable.

Echoherb I prefer long seasons (both) AND start at winter. Day 1 - freezing to death, Day 2 - dying from hunger, Day 3 - more freezing, Day 4 - running away from pengulls, Day 5 - where the hell are the beefalo or pigs, Day 6 - hello, tree guard!, Day 7 - hounds, Day 8 - deerclops. But its fun!
@lumberjack88228 жыл бұрын
Majou Nexian Play as Webber, monster meat wont hurt you + spider egg for a lot of friends or gland/meat/web farm! beard help vs cold Pengulls are neutral, so let the hounds play with them, two problem solved :) Deerclops? build a "dummybase" aka 1 firepit, 2 chests. and when he comes to play (and not have much strength to deal with, then give up the fort or) grab a spear and kill him Slowly, if you are good enough. If you have a spider queen close (and you are webber, go close) it will be fun

Drying racks are great, but crockpots (you only need 1 or 2) should definitely be the priority. Crockpots allow you to turn garbage food (monster meat, mushrooms) and minor foods (berries, carrots, frog legs, fish, honey) into hearty meals which also benefit your sanity. If you only use drying racks, you are basically limiting your food source to hunting (koalefants, pigs, tallbirds, beefalo, and rabbits). And then you have to wait a day or 2 for it to dry. That is a very time consuming process to get your food. And eating jerky by itself is nice if you want to regain health, but you will get a lot more hunger value by running it through a crockpot first. For example, 2 meats is like 50 hunger by itself. But combine that in a crockpot with a useless monster meat and a single berry or carrot and you can have a stew that gives 150 hunger. Its no contest. With a crockpot, a caged bird, and a spider nest you can survive forever in any season just making meatballs from 3 eggs and monster meat.

Have you TRIED going through a winter without a crock pot? because with drying racks it's actually not that hard OR time consuming. The wiki recommends ten to twenty drying racks; I got through my first winter with five and STILL had so much free time that I managed to seriously build up my stocks of other things. It's all about HOW you get the food; a lot of people don't seem to realise that you don't HAVE to spend hours hunting and gathering to get by. I know a few hacks (NOT actual gaming hacks) that cut it down tons. Aside from that, a lot of people find it easier in the beginning to craft drying racks as opposed to a crock pot. I STILL don't have all the stuff for one. All you need for the drying rack is rope, wood and charcoal. In terms of your first winter, drying racks are definitely the easiest way to go.

LordofFullmetal In my winter I had free time but no matter what I tried I had to keep coming back so I woudnt freeze to death, I had a beefalo hat and the armor thingy that makes you warmer but I still only had a while to gather before Wilson(With his accualy preety good beard) had to warm up. So YOU my friend, are a liar.
@Marialla.10 жыл бұрын
***** Wilson, with a beard and bunny earmuffs and a thermal stone, can last all day in winter. A beefalo hat is even better. Why didn't you make a thermal stone? It extends the time you can be away from a fire. Don't call someone a liar when all you're doing is showing off what you don't know. And btw, I'm even talking about long-day winters. So stop your whining.

Next tip gather mandrakes because when it becomes night you can cook them and it will skip the night especially if you eat them but always cook them first. And I hope this was a good tip

I don’t know why, tallbirds make me jump so fast every single time. I just got the game, and I was in a rocky area, and my hand was covering up a spot next to my character, and when I lifted my hand a full grown tall bird was standing next to my character lol

I'm not sure why folk have doen voted this. Seems like good advice to me. I've just bought it on android. On 3rd attempt, day 19. Didn't know about winter until an hour ago and i doubt I'll survive. The advice in this vid should give my next attempt a solid chance of surviving.

i go all in on crocks pots and improved farms. before 100 days i can normally have 20+ farms and nearly 20 crock pots and i NEVER run out of food throughout the winter. i have a meal in every crock pot, usually dragon pure meatballs or stuffed eggplant.
@intisol41289 жыл бұрын
What about wearpigs? Also I think it's better to make your camp near beefalos since you dont waste anything on manure so you can use the monster meat for recipes on the crockpot. The beefalos are also an awesome source of meat in winter and just like pigs they attack any hostile mob that comes near them. to get the pigs to help you you only need to go tho the pig village once and make them follow you back to camp

Crock pots in the psvita version do allow food to spoil. An ice box is a much more temparary apt solution. Crock pots are good for the oh so fufilling meatballs
@jagovalkparkietje10 жыл бұрын
what do you think about meatballs as food source? its basically my primary food supply cause i just throw in one monster meat/cookedmonstermeat/monsterjerky or even just a morsel and some berry's/carrots/mushrooms and youve gotten yourself a healthy amount of hunger back without using anything too fancy

Hungerwise, the Meaty Stew is better. The Dragonfruit pie heals 75 hunger, the Meaty Stew heals 150 hunger. Healthwise, the Dragonfruit pie is better. The Dragonfruit pie heals 40 health, while the Meaty Stew heals 20. Have a nice day, sir,
