This is so good and concise! The kind of info I wish I had years ago. Getting into a U.S. medical school and becoming a physician is a long and EXPENSIVE process especially for an international student. Look before you leap!😂 there’s several other routes/career options in the medical field so do your research and make sure this is what you want before you commit to the “MD”. Please guide me Which country should I go to become a doctor I'm 16 in South Africa, and my end goal is to become a neurosurgeon Is there an easy or cheap route for me I've looked into US but the visa issues are so problematic Please help me
@divinenchuma1437 Жыл бұрын
@@unknownchristian341 generally, getting a medical degree anywhere in the world is quite expensive, prices might differ from country to country, buh on average, a medical degree is usually relatively more expensive than the rest (this is due to a couple of factors...the reality is that medical training is expensive). If you're someone that might struggle with finances and doesn't have a sponsor, whether it be private individuals, an organization or your country's govt; the best option for you (honestly) is to study medicine in your home country (that's South Africa in your case), cuz it's gonna be relatively cheaper for you there, especially due to the fact that most countries provide medical education for it's citizens (at least if you attend a public or state funded school) at subsidized rates. You'd need to study very hard, pass your exams (more like perform excellently), graduate with an MD or equivalent degree, and then you can apply to a couple of countries for a neurosurgical residency (which in itself is a very difficult thing to do, but it's not impossible) either locally (I feel there should be some neurosurgery residency programs in your home country) or even better, in Western countries such as the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland...and the likes (again, extremely difficult, but not impossible), or even non-English speaking countries like Germany, Spain, Portugal, France..you get the gist (even though I think you'd need to learn their local language either before you start, or as you progress) N.B: You'd need to perform 'extremely exceptionally' well in medical school to make you a competitive candidate, whichever route you'd wish to take. Best of luck to you💯

I would say go for it! The outcomes are great just sharing my story I am Dr Mike, and I was an international student from India. After my senior year at High school I gave the JEE (Indian students will understand) and enrolled in chemical engineering at IIT Delhi. Later on after first year, I realised that my heart was somewhere else. Those days at an engineering school were the hardest and most stressful years of my life. I came from a low income family (Total family income of dad and mom was around 35000 USD) and for most Indians no matter what JEE and NEET(a medical entrance test in India) was a blind dream. As you all know Asian parents do not care what the child wants but thankfully my mom was different. I convinced my parents to take a drop year after my second year- they agreed and I began looking for options! Then I heard about the US medical system from my friends. I had varied interest- I was passionate about mathematics and Politics. So I ended up attending the College of Wooster, with majors in Political Science and Psychology and yes a Minors in Mathematics and a Pre medicine path. I graduated, and took a job as a Mathematical Analyst for a political firm. I was never satisfied so during this time I began preparing for the MCAT and thankfully I cleared it in the first go. I am thankfully to have secured a position in Cornell's Weil School of medicine. Yes, I did not get good funding and ended up taking enormous loans clubbed with that of my undergraduate years. Ah well, things ended up well and now I am a Oncologist at a nice hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana ! So trust me. There are many students (international) who have cleared it off. Why cannot you! Always strive to do your best and you will get it! Work hard- build your resume

I’ve seen something about medicine being post graduate and I’ve heard about the MCAT, but not like this! Now I know I’m on the right track. I’m studying anatomy here in Nigeria. Would that be the same as a US undergrad program? Can I write the MCAT afterwards or my undergrad has to be in the US too? I need help on that please. You don't need to have studied at undergraduate level in the US. You'd be applying as an international student, and so they'd not expect you to have had a US education. "Would it be equivalent?" I would advise against studying Medicine in India whatever the cost. Lots of Medical Schools are very low in Quality, and their graduated are the most likely to lose their medical license in the United Kingdom and Australia. Look into Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia, Argentina, Japan, or South Korea, if you to get a medical degree cheaply without a bachelor's degree. But be warned International Medical Graduates even those in countries with very high-quality medical educations like Germany are 30% less likely to be able match in residency as compared to American or Canadian medical school graduates. Going to medical school without a bachelor's degree means you are less prepared and more likely to drop out. The medical University of Vienna has a 25% dropout rate as compared to the American average of 3.3% and the Canadian dropout rate of less than 1%. There are some places where you can get a degree from an American Medical medical school and the local medical school like Singapore where Duke University has a collaborative Medical School. But be very careful about Indian Medical Schools, some of them have lost accreditation due to improper practices like filling their university hospitals with fake patients.

I know she can't just get in and start practicing. What I am asking is if she will have to go back to med school or take some exams, or like the pathway she will need to follow to achieve her dreams of doing medicine in the USA

Did you also take the MCAT before getting into US medicine? And do you have a scholarship or bursary, or how do you fund your studies in general? Those are the only challenges that I'm facing right now. I such obtained a Nursing Honors Degree in Namibia and I want to study medicine in the US. I'd appreciate it if you can really be kind enough and give me some information.
@lifewithadabekee2 жыл бұрын
Yes I took the Mcat before school. You can check out my playlist to learn more about my journey kzbin.info/aero/PLBTSBTT6mXU7yiuGNM1tjW_Lfy5xx0Cp7 As for funding, I’m self and family funded. Most people i know have some private loans also as well. I’m not very familiar with the process so I haven’t talked about it much. But I hope to get someone who is familiar with it to speak on my channel.
