Upgrade your home’s curb appeal and build these modern planter boxes. Plus this DIY planter box has hidden key storage to boot!
I chose to build these planter boxes using sapele and canarywood because of their durability and weather resistance. Plus the colors in the canarywood really pop next to the straight grain in the sapele adding to the modern lines in the design. I mounted these planters using french cleats which makes hanging them a breeze. These are anything but your grandma’s planters.

Suggestion: use those center divots from the forstner bit drills to add a couple tiny neodymium magnets, for added security on the key!

you could recess a bigger area for a combo key box. that way only people who know the code can get the key. they aren't very expensive and come in all sorts of sizes and styles. anyway, i love this planter, might try it next year!

That looks like a nice little project to make your home brighter. Was wondering what you were going to do regarding hiding your address. Those extra numbers you cut on the CNC will also surely throw off any potential stalkers. The finished project looks great 👌

How have the sapele and cannarywood fared? I would expect the former to move much more than the latter.

It’s held up great. There’s actually been no issues with wood movement.
