As a nail technician, I do not recommend wiping the bottle with a cotton pad because the lint from the cotton can contaminate the nail polish. If you want to wipe the neck of the bottle, use a small piece of paper towel with acetone.

Just shake the bottle to mix it. From my experience just rolling it isn't good enough. And if you want to use it, let it sit for 15 minutes so the bubbles go away and you won't get them on your nail.

If you shake nail polish bottles a lot it cause repetitive motion injuries. It's much easier on your wrists if you roll the bottle.

You can also take a q-tip and clean the inside of the cap to get any nail polish out of there! That will help seal the bottle better!

I had a polish that was completely petrified. Added a few drops of good quality thinner daily for a week or so, shaking every time once it was thin enough for that. Astounded that I actually brought it all the way back!

It’s been said that using acetone will give you the same results initially, but can break down the nail polish formula overtime. Nail polish thinner is the way to go for the long run. But if you’re going to throw out a bottle, and you’re in a pinch, you might as well try it anyway and see what happens!

Nail polish thinner is ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, the ingredients that keep polish liquid. It evaporates when exposed to air, so the polish will dry perfectly fine if it's mixed properly.

Nope! The whole reason nail polish "expires" is because the solvents that suspend the pigments and make polish liquid just evaporate when exposed to air. Regular use will make a polish thicker even when you're keeping the cap clean but having it be super gunked up definitely speeds up the process. There will come a time when nothing works to restore the polish but I've only seen that once and something clearly destroyed the formula. Hope that helped!
