Somebody needs to create nail polish that dries on your nails but not on your skin. So then when the paint on your nails is dry the paint on your skin is wet still. Then you can simply wipe the wet polish off your skin, and the polish on your nail will still be there.

The only time you should cap free edge is with first coat of color and, last coat of topcoat. Capping every coat adds to much weight to the nail & it WILL CHIP. I do this with my clients & their Mani's last bout 2 weeks sometimes longer.

Filed Away By April every time I try to cap my free edge I either deposit too much and it goes everywhere or I’m too light handed with it and it defeated the purpose 😫

katherine beserra Awe love its ok. When you pull your brush out of bottle wipe off one side completely from top to bottom. The remaining side is the perfect amount for one coat. Best way to apply it is press down on your brush til it "fans" out then, pull up length of nail. Once coated there should be just enough to cap your free edge. Remember, even thin coats dry faster and, better!
@Marscandy16 жыл бұрын
That use to be a problem with me as well. So I started doing this. I cap my free edge first and then apply color. This also prevents the dreaded bulge at the end of the nail tip.

My best tip for pushing back cuticles: a pencil eraser. I keep a few brand-new, unused pencils around so that any time I feel like it, I can push my cuticles back with the eraser. It’s easiest after a shower, or washing my face, when the cuticles are damp and pliable, but when they’re totally dry, I can still use the eraser (it’s good and grippy!) as it can “erase” those bits of stubborn cuticle simply by rubbing back and forth over the dry, stubborn part. Works on toenails, too.

I have found that it's easiest to polish my non-dominant hand first and let it fully dry. Then I polish my dominant hand by using my dominant hand to load the brush. Then I switch hands, place both elbows on a (protected) table, and polish my dominant hand's nails by moving my dominant hand toward the brush, rather than trying to move my non-dominant hand holding the brush toward my dominant hand's nails. Also, I always polish from the pinky to the thumb. That way my most dexterous fingers are polished last so there is less time I have to be very careful. I even use this method to sculpt my own acrylic nails.

That's smart you have a reason for why you do everything, as do I, but I do it the opposite way of you pretty much lol. I start with painting my dominant hand (painting with my non-dominant) bc I have better concentration and patience when I first start, so I figure get the hard part done first. I am pretty good with my non Dom though bc I'm a little ambidextrous, so I understand it's not as easy for most. And I start with the thumb bc it has a larger surface area and I use my thumb the most so it gives it a little more time to dry before I start touching things. Whatever works best for the person though! I will say it is smart to let the first hand dry all the way first jic.

The first tip would be useful if the skin around my cuticles wasn't messed up. Each finger has a different shape which also impacts length, and I can't fix it, so my manicures always look kinda messy. I hate it, but it was what I was born with. 😓

Mine too! file each nail according to its own cuticle. If the cuticle is rounded then the nail is rounded, if the cuticle is square then the nail is square. It actually looks perfect I guess because you are following the exact shape of each nail it comes together. Also it has helped my nails stay strong and grow long. I use to try to make it look all the same but every time it would look like ass...but with this method my nails look professional. Good luck

I'm not sure but it sounds like you're describing curved nails which can give the impression of "raised" skin around the nail bed. I have quite curved nails myself and I combat it by stretching the skin as I paint. I lay each finger on it's edge and while adding pressure I roll it one way or the other (depending on which side of the nail I'm painting) to stretch it out so I can get my whole nail covered without touching the skin. I leave it like that for about 10 secs so that it doesn't squish back and defeat the purpose. Obviously this only works with relatively fast drying polishes. xD Hope that helps!

Have a stable surface to put your bottle of polish on, or you will stress about the possibility of it messing up and ruining something to the point that your hands shake and you mess up your nails. anyways. 4. Lastly, and most importantly, tell people if you're about to paint your nails or they'll get annoyed when they come looking for your and find out you're doing so.

Another fat great brush is Nina's from Sallys not a huge color choice.. But love their brush, fat, shorter brissels! I will also clean old bottle out to add a favorite to. Just clean well 1st with pure acetone!

Thank you for your tips! Exactly what I needed! But I will say this . . and it’s really not a negative but,on your part, anyway . . . but I don’t understand why anyone would give you a negative response?!? Your tips are spot on!

The alcohol tip really is a game changer. I remember I used to have this little set from Sephora that came with a base coat, top coat, actual color coat, and a “prep” coat. Even though I wasn’t really a fan of the color from that set, I used that prep coat all the time…and then was so sad when it was almost empty, and I couldn’t find any more. I did some research and figure out it was pretty much just plain rubbing alcohol in a nail polish bottle, and I’ve been using rubbing alcohol ever since. My manicures (and especially my pedicures for some reason) last so much longer now!

I had the same issue and bought Glisten and Glow Dry Prep. I use it before the base coat and before a nail touch up. I decided that it’s mostly alcohol and will refill the bottle when empty with Alcohol. I like using a brush rather that risk cotton fibers from a Q tip. 6:14

Latex Barrier helps for beginners so that they can just peel it off from the skin. I remember when I was still learning, the brush would always end up removing nail polish from the nail as well

Thank you!! Ive been going nuts trying to figure out why i get nail bubbles. it always looked like I put sand in my polish lol, Now I know why it happens and how to prevent it. Woohoo happy happy happy!!!!

Also I've noticed if the ambient temperature is high, bubbles are more likely.

Thank you for the tips about the brand's brush sizes. I usually do gel and had a lot trouble with regular polish using essie. Will definitely be picking up a larger brush so I can use their colors better. Thanks!

Jordan No problem! Yeah, it’s gonna make a huge difference in application for you! Hope it helps! 😊

Use some liquid latex around your nails to avoid getting polish on your skin. If you're allergic to latex, use a nail apron to protect the outside of your nail.

Really see I always loved the look of clean polished nails on girls or boys as long as it's done well.. I never did mine till I found the matte top coat. I think that just looks a little better on men than a shiny finish. But for me the gel polish is so much easier to work with. You just can't flood the brush out cause it runs down real real quick with the gel in my experiences. This is for Juli what do you think about using melted wax. Dip your finger tips in the wax and remove it only from your nails.. Then when your finished just pull it all off.
@TheNididi6 жыл бұрын
Great tips. I'll definitely gonna try that cold water tip next time :) One thing that I sometimes do is use Clean&start nail cleanser by essence. And sometimes I add more top coat after few days, but not always.

Thank you! The oil is what I'm missing & my poor cuticles have been paying the price this winter.
@anitamcgill4925 жыл бұрын
This is what I've started using on my cuticles. I don't feel like I have to hide my hands anymore! 10 ml roller bottle...like for essential oil, or clean, empty nail polish bottle...be sure either are clean and dry. Add 15 drops of Lavender essential oil Add 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil Add 10 drops of grapefruit essential oil. Add 5 drops peppermint essential oil Add 1 ml vitamin E oil. I use a marked dropper for this. Fill the rest of the bottle with fractionated coconut oil. Put roller cap and lid on bottle or screw the brush into the nail polish bottle. Gently shake until blended. Gently shake before each use I started with scaling down the eo's by half, since I didn't know how sensitive my skin would be. I use this formula now and have a bottle in my bedroom and living room. (I don't sell essential oils :)

This is really helpful! Though I think a big part of my problem is that I have a tremor in my hands so it makes it near impossible to keep steady when doing my nails, especially my finger nails. However, I'll definitely be using some of these tips for when I paint my toenails!

*heres an actual tip:* plan when you wanna do your nails and do them the day before you have a free day. do the nails as messy and carefree as you want, obviously do it nicely, i just mean that if you get some on your finger, dont worry. in less than a day, the excess polish around your nails and on your fingers will eventually start peeling off on its own, if you wanna help, pull it with some tweezers. (plus its pretty satisfying lol) it comes out looking perfect!

Painting the day before is literally hiw I do it! For $35.00, get a gel starter & good to go!

I didn't know I needed this, I just always gave up on painting my nails. I need to try this top/bottom coat, I love OPI and Sinful Colors (same company), but I HATE the base/top coats. My nail polish would literally peel off like stickers in the shower.
