Good Morning Kristy! Sharpie Method! Yay! I sort of do that…in a way….sometimes 🫤without a Sharpie, but this would get the job done much more quickly. Really, any method that I can use to get to laying down my colors more quickly is great 👍 I enjoy drawing for drawing’s sake…most of the time, BUT when I’m feeling that painting urge, I wanna paint…I don’t want to draw! This is also why I rely a LOT on tracing to get scale, perspective and the big areas blocked out correctly. Otherwise with some resource images I’m keen to use, my own or other public domain, unlicensed images, I just get discouraged so easily and then I want to quit. Thanks!

The mapping out of the shapes is genius, and I think takes away the over-complicating that I tend to do. I really love the waterfall painting -- both the quick pen & wash and the final piece. Iceland.....I want to go too! (Ever watch the Secret Life of Walter Mitty? Iceland! Great movie)

Undersanding the steps needed for a watercolour painting, is essential for any painting, sometimes I cannot see the forest for the trees. Thank you for a super explanation and visual demonstration of breaking down the processes of doing a watercolour painting. Love all your illustrations, especially the field of flowers. Simplifying, even harder to do, but so valuable in our everyday lives. This practice is so attractive to my eyes, as our techno world can be visually overwhelming. Such an interesting video. I’m a beginner and still at the stage of trying to reproduce my reference photo, with predictably disappointing and overworked results! So I’m probably not so excited about the sharpie tip (which is, of course, excellent) but the range of possibilities open to me if I can manage to let go a bit and trust my own judgement. This is one of the many reasons I like your videos. I was hoping you’d choose the waterfall. Thank you so much 💕

I love this! I can get seriously bogged down with details, almost to the point that I freeze up. I've begun telling myself that I don't need to do photorealistic paintings. I have a camera for that. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's not what I want to do with watercolor. Reminding myself of this tends to kind of shake out my brain and let me relax and have fun again.

I feel torn between wanting to paint realistic landscapes of where I live (there's tons of nature here, some of it might vanish in coming years) and wanting to enjoy painting. For me those two things go separate ways. And yet abstract landscapes make me anxious for some reason. The waterfall painting was my favourite, if I could I would paint a stream that runs close to my home.

Remember it’s always (or likely) going to be “ugly” the first few times you try something newish. So just keep trying the new thing again and again. Do it a few times over fast on the same page until you start to feel better… but set your expectations low, it helps, lol!
