The quality of a brilliant teacher is someone who can simplify complex topics so that even a laymen like us can understand them. There are many great intellects but the ability to understand is separate to the ability to transfer the knowledge. Shaykh Haitham is not only a great scholar, but also a true intellect and a brilliant teacher. He is truly a gift to the ummah. May Allah preserve him and be pleased with him

I was an Orthodox Salafi with big beard during my first phase of being a Muslim. People used to fear me because i had huge beard and i was toxic towards everyone. I was like a haram finder, who finds haram in everything, my friends hated me bcoz of that. They were Christians and some of them hated Islam because of me. I used to follow the Salafi scholars blindly, they do dawah and spread Tawheed, this made me believing they are the true Muslims. Later i continued studying Quran and it’s language, literature, etc., made me fall in love with Quran. Believe me, the Quran literature penetrates hearts, you will feel like ALLAH is talking to you, you will see those Quranic stories happening infront of you by just reading Quran. Plain Quranic translations fail to keep the Quranic literature when translated. So find a good Tafseer in your own language. I became more spiritual now, people don’t fear me anymore. My heart feels happy and is at peace when i remember my Lord, ALLAH. My advice is, get closer to the God’s revelation(Quran) than anything, find a good Tafseer and understand the verses of the Quran with context revealed from the Tafseer based on Hadiths and History. Be mindful while praying, especially while doing Rukooh and Sujood(prostration). If you don’t understand anything, then ask ALLAH, surely ALLAH will guide those whom he wills. ALLAH doesn’t like those who do not think and blindly follows others. Be dependent more on Quran than any man made books with man made laws. You will become good Muslims with a clear understanding of the Quran verses explained with context. Be intellectual! May ALLAH bless us! ❤

Same here I was never a salafi but I was impressed by their dawah style like Qur'an hadees reference they used to give. I also started to read the Quran and I found that it has philosophical meanings as well and I also found the indications towards tasawwuf and it has helped me to do tazkiya nafs by doing zikr which helps our ruh to overcome our nafs, and zikr enters our subconscious mind.

Bro always call yourself a Muslim as Allah commanded us to call our self muslims.and please salaf is not a bad word its a beautiful word just means the pious predecessors.i.e sahabas, tabihin.i know nowadays it has negative political connotations but don't let that to hijack the meaning of the word. I know some so called salafi countries have hijacked the religion for political and power gain but when it comes to correct usul of aqeeda they are on the straight path.but they use the furuh of fiqh(legal rulings) for power and politics and to control the populations and have even imprisoned all scholars who try to speak against or critisise the leaders. We take our knowledge from the quran the sunnah and salaf. Not salafism as used in modern day context.

Notes for myself but hopefully others can benefit insha'Allah. Not exhaustive. May have errors too. 1:26 confusion over contemplation of text versus meaning of text. 3:14 reality of the meaning Vs meaning. Reflection over meaning. Understanding meaning is from aql. But we may not have touched, felt, see, etc it. E.g jannah. We understand it, but we've never seen it Al haqeeqah (reality) Vs maanah (meaning). Reality is from the 5 senses. 8:25 Interpreting the meaning of how you want. E.g. open the door, you start eating apple. This defeats the purpose. Language represents a reality. Post modern thinking says the opposite of this. No rules for language means no language. 15:25 reflection aspect, "why did sheikh want to open the door"? And even this is within the rules of reflection too. If you get the meaning wrong, the reality of the meaning wrong will be wrong and thus, the reflection will also be wrong. 18:41 main requirement for understanding the meaning? Is to know the language. And the correct language to that too. 22:55 is there a correct interpretation? The author knows. Otherwise, the correct interpretation (by anyone else) ONLY relating to the reality of the meaning is valid. 23:51 Qur'an can only be understood in fusha Arabic, classical Arabic, which has rules and regulations. Therefore modernists who say the Qur'an can have any meaning is false. Quran is a message from Allah to us. Whereas for them, it's a vehicle for their ideology from them to us. 26:12 some verses can handle more than 1 meaning. First condition of correct meaning is had to fit within classical Arabic. Second is check with author if this meaning is valid, in this case, refer to RasulAllah (saw) and the Sahabah (ra) or even other parts of Qur'an. 30:13 Anything else is impossible, because then Allah SWT did not preserve the Qur'an. Because RasulAllah saw understood the Qur'an and passed it onto the Sahabah ra.

We should be careful in using the word "reality" in this context, as it conflates sensory perception with the broader, more complex nature of existence. Reality encompasses not only what is immediately accessible to our senses but also phenomena that are imperceptible to us, such as atoms, quarks, and other subatomic particles. These fundamental elements of the universe are invisible to the naked eye and can only be understood through scientific instruments and theoretical models. Therefore, it might be more accurate to speak in terms of "empirical evidence" or "sensory perception" when discussing what our senses can detect. Empirical evidence refers to information acquired by observation or experimentation, which aligns more closely with the notion of what we can see, touch, hear, taste, or smell. By distinguishing between empirical evidence and the broader concept of reality, we acknowledge that much of reality lies beyond our direct sensory experience, yet remains integral to our understanding of the universe.

For example today what we know about Bees. Which early scholar you go to understand these phenomenon? Asc brother.i understand what you trying to say but the quran is very clear as long as you stick to the rules of the usul of tafseer according to classical arabic and scholars you will never come short.the point I disagree with is always taking from the latest scientific research because the quran is timeless and has and will always be a head of its time until the day of judgement.the quran doesn't need to catch up with science rather science needs to catch up with quran which it never can.example of like the theory of evolution is evolution is pseudo science which has been pushed as a fact to mislead masses which if you study deeply its completely baseless with no evidence.its completely against the quranic narrative of man's purposeful creation by Allah.i have seen Muslims trying to reconcile evolution theory with the quranic narrative naively.and if you wanna know if a scientific research or theory is correct of false check with the quran and if it disagrees with the quran rest assured it's false 100%.

Those are ahruf not kalam brother.ahruf means letters and kalam means words.so is like asking what is the meaning of ABYZ.notice when the sheikh said the quran is kalamu Allah.kallam(words) convey meaning but the ahruf(letters) don't.thats why when you recite الم you don't pronounce It as "alam, alum e.tc " you say (alif lam mim).you read it like separate letters.same with the other examples of it.if you study arabic grammar the first thing you are taught is the meaning of kalam,it's conditions and types extra.hope that helps.

That's why in the ayah you quoted the standard doesn't apply because it's says ءايات meaning verses or sentences which is entirely a different level of arabic grammar which comes under مركبات.which is basically the grammtic construction of an arabic sentence correctly using kalimat(words),I.e nouns, verb, articles e.t.c. Excellent Discussion! However there is some further elaboration on the following point. The honorable shaykh may have covered it indirectly or may not had the time to discuss it in this session. A divorcee should keep herself for three quroo (2:228). The sahaba differed in the meaning of quroo. This resulted in the difference of opinion of Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Shafi. One of them preferred one sahabi over another sahabi's opinion. This shows the meanings of entire quran were not completely agreed upon. What is the meaning of quroo? Does it mean impure period (menstruation) or pure period (between the menses)? Sahabah رضوان الله تعالى عليهم اجمعينhad differences amongst themselves. Great personalities the likes of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ood رضي الله تعالى عنهand others opine that it is haidh, whereas other great personalities the like of Sayyidatuna Aisha رضي الله تعالى عنهاopine that it refers to the clean period. There is a door of using the rationality open for things that are intentionally left unclear. Qiyas. Ijtihad has to be exercised by those capable to do so for things that are unclear.
