I love Jaime when you try to sound bad, you can't because your used to sounding so good😂. Your internal sense of harmony still comes through, even when your intentionally trying to sound bad. I hope one day I can internalize a smidgen of your flavor. Gosh you sound epic.

Jamie, I thank you so much for that exercise. I realized that there's a full version of it in the "Improvisation mastery essentials" that I bought some time ago, so I practiced it again. And, oh boy, I don't know how long it's going to stick with me but it made a ton of difference. Still with the same 5 notes !

Thank you for everything you are doing, you really help me. But where I live, I don't have nobody to hang out with. And um, I need to find a store to take my alto sax and go have it tuned, because I think it's not. It's not very accurate, consumed it? It just does not sound like you're alto or anyone else's, it's a little bit lower and it's off, and it's not me because I've tried 10 different types of reeds, and it's all the same. So my next step is to take and have it service and have it looked at I just bought it brand new, but it's still not producing when I press the alto key when I hit middle d. It's not anywhere close, so I don't know what's going on. But I'm working on it, I'm not giving up my next saxophone is gonna be a tenor. I'm gonna buy a tenor and work between the 2 and teach myself. I like to tenor I think more than the alto.Sax

Hey Christine. I’m afraid you can’t get a sax “tuned up”, like you would a piano or guitar. It’s impossible for me to understand your issue over a KZbin comment but inside my Inner Circle Membership I can help people. ☺️

Very Good Jamie !! I understand the idea of using the root as the anchor and going up and down the scale , but the problem I am having is the rhythm. Are you improvising the rhythm on the spot or in otherwords can you play the exact same rhythm if asked to repeat it ? If so the you could practice the rhythm until you get the feel of the music. Please explain Thank you

Too big an answer to give here. It's all in my Improvisation Mastery course!

I improvise all the time. I can’t stop. You could put sheet music to “Mary Had a Little Lamb” in front of me and I’d take off on it. I’ve been puzzled that many teachers emphasize the pentatonic scales when teaching improvisation, because I never think of the pentatonic scale. I always hear the chord changes and follow them. Maybe because I’ve played enough guitar and piano, I know chord structure and chord progressions in the American songbook. From this video, I now get the idea why teachers use pentatonic scales to introduce improvisation. Staying in a pentatonic scale lands you automatically on notes that just fit into the I-IV-V chords that normally go together without having to adjust to the chord changes. Much like playing a harmonica.
