I seen a Man in my field one day. I thought from the distance he was surveying something. I walked out to see what was going on. He was sitting on a stool with an easel painting a picture of the antique farm equipment, abandoned for decades. He apologized for being there without permission as he didn't know who to contact as he'd seen the equipment from the interstate. He was an amateur Artist and it caught his eye. He spent the rest of the day doing his thing. Then I promptly begged to and bought his painting from him as he was leaving. I'm glad I didn't chase that man away and hope he's still doing his thing.

2003 Outside Susanvill Calif, just leaving from my kids house for Christmas Vaction, Passenger front hub bearing seized up on my van, Put it the ditch, the home owner came out, and ask can I help you, explane what happen, He said, jumping in the truck, he took me down to NAPA auto, from there, I bought a new hub, bearing grease with bearing, even tho it was snowing I got right on to it. Getting late he said, "Come on over and get dinner, spend the night. We'll finish it up tomorrow. I did, but they refused any money, for the dinner and warm couch, I insisted, but no was their answer, I said we'll I never froget you two, so here is something that make you smile for the years, I gave them a cast iron deep dish pan with raised ducks flying on the lid. They finally accepted it.. I told them I am a cast iron collector. Wagner, Griswols, vintage heirloom some 100 years old and older. They were the nicest Californian I've ever met.. great memories 😊

@@billfarley9167 At the time, someone was trying to claim my property, that piece in particular as their own. I spent quite a bit having it surveyed and was worried about the markers getting pulled before the survey was read into court. Also, a time or 2, I had to chase off a few that were trying to scrap the old equipment. Later, I found a guy who restores, keeps and uses that kind with his horses. I gave him a few pieces for free and got to see the restored pieces at work. Gave some to a neighbor who painted them up for their yard decorations by their drive way. As for the Painter, I was his first paying customer. I'm not that grouchy old man that chases people away just because I can. Just don't be creeping around the house or out buildings.

I’m a long haul trucker, there were times when my rig broke down near corn fields or by someone home. Maybe since it's not a tourist area people just didn't want you on their property. I owned a beautiful field with a pond that overlooked mountains in the distance. People stopped often walked onto my property and took pictures. One day I came home to guys were fishing on my pond which was a considerable distance away. When I approached them they got nasty figuring there were two of them. That did not work out well for them. A couple more similar situations and I just started kicking people off when I saw them leave the roadside. You are probably reaping what others have sown over the years

I’m living on the east side of the state, people coming from the west side of the state have created the problem. The biggest problem is the poaching, or the stealing from the tweekers. People coming from other parts of the state come here with a entitled attitude that they’re going to do what they want to, tell me how I’m going to run my life, they don’t take no for an answer. Unfortunately those just wanting to explore get stuff in the middle of the nonsense and don’t get a warm welcome because of it.

Learn a few things about private property. You seemed to call people out for running a generator invading your quit camp. There is no difference in what you are doing driving down a driveway into a farm. You are invading their privacy. Some advise that may save you some hassle. Never drive onto anyones fields!! Your car could have easily caught the wheat stubble on fire with your hot exhaust. That is why farmers do not drive cars or pickups into wheat stubble. Get a clue, man!! Not very smart on your part. How would you like to pay for that mess because you were trespassing? It's not your land and not your right to just walk or park anyplace you want.

There is no shortage of jackholes in Eastern Washington. However you screwed up big time quite a few times. First of all not getting the no trespassing sign. Just because it was placed in the yard back from the road doesn't mean you can drive right up to the sign. The signs generally get torn down or bent in half when placed within reach of a road. Then and most importantly you parked your car in dried grass on several times when it was 106 degrees. You also had a cooking fire in an unsafe location. You're very lucky all they did was yell at you.

I've traveled a lot doing photography and sketching and I can tell you that there are other places where people are not friendly at all, including in California and Nevada. Can't say I blame them since between the crime rate going up with visitors, travelers leaving their trash and trespassing (even looking into windows), leaving campfires smoldering or building a fire in dried grassland, trampling fields of produce and also making quick assumptions about a place after only a cursory view it doesn't make the locals very happy. I've even run across people who have dug up and removed endangered plants from our area. I learned that lesson very quickly the first time I drove through former lumber country that had been recently clear-cut. When I mentioned it at the gas station the old geezer there informed me that people needed jobs in the area and the next time I wiped my butt after a visit to the toilet I should maybe use a spotted owl instead of toilet paper (a wood product). Country people, it seems, are not happy with city people, and since I moved to the country myself some 30 years ago I know why. The driveway at the bottom of the hill where my place is seems to always be filled with trash that people leave as they drive by, and it's hard to keep up with the clean-up during the summer months when it's tourist season. I can't tell you how many smoldering camp fires I've doused or how insulting some people can be about our little town and complaining about the lack of a McDonald's. I understand that most travelers don't do those things, but the ones that do sure make it hard on everyone else.

You are parking on grass with high fire danger. That is there pay check. The wheat. There homes. Where you live have homeless people come camp in your yard, would that be a problem you ? Setting a camp. That is there home there land, there crops. Think about where you live ,home camp in your parking lot? Not a problem? And doesn't take much too get a fire going and they lose everything so fast. Because u think you have right to go where you want and do what want. Being upfront about find a place to stay just don't invite yourself in ask goes a long way. Ask where a guy could camp or spend the night. Don't just go in and help yourself!

Seems to me that his second to last sentence summed it up when he said that he would have been fine with the guy just nicely telling him to leave the private property. Where that last guy trespassed himself, was at the pictures of the license plate, the calling of police before even asking a question, the lame threat of a ticket as if he was a ticketing authority, and just his basic arrogant aggressiveness. That tub of lard saw a man much smaller than him and bullied him simply because he could, not because he should.

No tresspassing means keep out. If you park on wheat your muffler can cause a huge fire that can wipe out the income of those farmers along with their houses. I get it though. I have a dual sport motorcycle and it's just too beautiful out in those areas not to explore. Just remember the place doesn't belong to you it is okay to look but be polite be respectful and be smart. And remember how hot it is that's probably the reason people were edgy when they saw your vehicle parked somewhere near wheatfield. The locals are worried about fires. If you accidentally started a fire you'd probably be in big trouble with the authorities.

You think you had problems with country people in eastern Wa.? Try coming over here to northern Idaho. We really don't appreciate people trespassing onto our ground. If i were you, I'd count your blessings and be grateful nobody blocked you in or prevented you from leaving while they waited for the county sheriff's office to respond and issue you a citation for trespass. If I were you, i would be praising the land owners instead of belly aching that they only told to leave. Do you realize there is a "statue of limitations," and they could still file charges if they so chose to do so. You are so so fortunate you didn't start a fire by your lack of wisdom and knowledge of how fires start. After watching your video, i can empathize and understand how those land owners felt. The same law pertains here in Idaho. We as land owners DON'T have to post "no trespassing" signs. Again, that responsibility is for those who wish to come onto our property. Be aware of your surroundings, be respectful, use commone sense, and read the state and local laws if you don't know what you can or can not do. You seem relatively intelligent and articulate. I would encourage you to be humble and gracious when you're out and about on your journeys. There is absolutely zero excuses for trespassing! Most states like Wa. and Idaho have spent A LoT of $$ with signage and education encouraging people to "ask first"! There is no way you did NOT see those signs on your travels out and about on your lil trip over to Eastern Wa... they are everywhere! Do you happen to see a pattern here? I'd suggest you look at yourself in the rear view mirror once and do some reflecting and be introspective. You may see that your actions and lack of respect is what is prompting and eliciting negative encounters with folks who typically would give the shirt off their backs to help anyone as would I. With all the technology out there, there is absolutely ZERO excuse for NOT knowing where you are. If you would have taken a few minutes to stop at farmhouses 1st, there is no doubt in my mind that the "theme" this video would have been how "friendly", "kind" and "respectful" country folks are. This isn't 1945, and I'm pretty sure your name is not Woody Guthrie. Guthrie's socialist/communist song "This land is your land, this Land is My Land" does NOT apply to private land ownership. Ask 1st! I am giving you a follow and look forward to seeing how you learn from this past experience. Enjoy your travels and Merry Christmas to you.

This is a route we often take going from Milton Freewater (Eastern Oregon) to Spokane. That railroad bridge you featured is the oldest and longest railroad bridge in the US. Also, don't take the unfriendlies in Pomeroy as any indication of the rest of this part of the state. Try Walla Wall next time. Between Spokane and the Oregon border you need a rusty truck and a flannel shirt to fit in. A Honda with a kayak? Maybe not. In rural areas we're kind of sensitive to strangers on our property because they want to either buy us out, do a tax assessment, propose a cell phone tower, a wind turbine, or just hunt illegally out of season. It gets old after a while. Try not camping somewhere that is "free". Coincidentally, I grew up in Eastern Washington, my father moved us here in the 1970s so he could work on Little Goose dam.

I almost had a heart attack when I saw your little fire. We have a very strick burn ban during most of the warm months. At times chain saws and such are banned because fire danger is so high. I see both sides of this one. On one hand, it is completely unfair for them to judge you based on your camping vehicle. What business is it of theirs if you camp out of a little car instead of a giant diesel powered camper? On the other hand, you live exactly as does a drunk or drugged drifter in that little car, and you are very ignorant about fire safety in a part of the country ravaged by wildfires. Your behavior and presentation naturally raise a lot of red flags. You should try harder to be self aware. Think about how you might worry if an older middle aged man showed up on your property in a tiny car (with his entire life stuffed in it) and parked in a way that was a danger to everyone within 100 miles. You might want to organize your car a little differently, and think about maybe making it look a little more like a serious tiny camper. The only thing you have to set their minds at ease is the kayak. A little more attention to putting minds at ease may be a good idea.
