I seen a Man in my field one day. I thought from the distance he was surveying something. I walked out to see what was going on. He was sitting on a stool with an easel painting a picture of the antique farm equipment, abandoned for decades. He apologized for being there without permission as he didn't know who to contact as he'd seen the equipment from the interstate. He was an amateur Artist and it caught his eye. He spent the rest of the day doing his thing. Then I promptly begged to and bought his painting from him as he was leaving. I'm glad I didn't chase that man away and hope he's still doing his thing.

2003 Outside Susanvill Calif, just leaving from my kids house for Christmas Vaction, Passenger front hub bearing seized up on my van, Put it the ditch, the home owner came out, and ask can I help you, explane what happen, He said, jumping in the truck, he took me down to NAPA auto, from there, I bought a new hub, bearing grease with bearing, even tho it was snowing I got right on to it. Getting late he said, "Come on over and get dinner, spend the night. We'll finish it up tomorrow. I did, but they refused any money, for the dinner and warm couch, I insisted, but no was their answer, I said we'll I never froget you two, so here is something that make you smile for the years, I gave them a cast iron deep dish pan with raised ducks flying on the lid. This is a route we often take going from Milton Freewater (Eastern Oregon) to Spokane. That railroad bridge you featured is the oldest and longest railroad bridge in the US. Also, don't take the unfriendlies in Pomeroy as any indication of the rest of this part of the state. Try Walla Wall next time. Between Spokane and the Oregon border you need a rusty truck and a flannel shirt to fit in. A Honda with a kayak? Maybe not. In rural areas we're kind of sensitive to strangers on our property because they want to either buy us out, do a tax assessment, propose a cell phone tower, a wind turbine, or just hunt illegally out of season. It gets old after a while. Try not camping somewhere that is "free". Coincidentally, I grew up in Eastern Washington, my father moved us here in the 1970s so he could work on Little Goose dam.

I’m living on the east side of the state, people coming from the west side of the state have created the problem. The biggest problem is the poaching, or the stealing from the tweekers. People coming from other parts of the state come here with a entitled attitude that they’re going to do what they want to, tell me how I’m going to run my life, they don’t take no for an answer. Unfortunately those just wanting to explore get stuff in the middle of the nonsense and don’t get a warm welcome because of it.

There is no shortage of jackholes in Eastern Washington. However you screwed up big time quite a few times. First of all not getting the no trespassing sign. Just because it was placed in the yard back from the road doesn't mean you can drive right up to the sign. The signs generally get torn down or bent in half when placed within reach of a road. Then and most importantly you parked your car in dried grass on several times when it was 106 degrees. You also had a cooking fire in an unsafe location. You're very lucky all they did was yell at you.

Seems to me that his second to last sentence summed it up when he said that he would have been fine with the guy just nicely telling him to leave the private property. Where that last guy trespassed himself, was at the pictures of the license plate, the calling of police before even asking a question, the lame threat of a ticket as if he was a ticketing authority, and just his basic arrogant aggressiveness. That tub of lard saw a man much smaller than him and bullied him simply because he could, not because he should.

Park a car on the side of the road or off road a bit into a field and the hot exhaust system, especially catalytic converter, will torch. Some people can be fantastic, some can be real assholes. I heard a story up there of a farmer hitting a neighbor's dog - dog ran in front of him - so he drove into the yard to tell the owner what happened. The owner took a piece of firewood and punched it right into his safety glass windshield. Yup, Palouse Country friendliness.

I’m from western Washington haven’t spent much time in eastern Washington except when my husband went a Farrier clinic to get certified. When I was a kid our dad would take on road trips usually to someone he knew. But he loved the old roads going through the cascade mountains and over passes. Never had any problems. But I think he was just careful. This video of yours is outstanding. Thank you. It’s probably a good thing my husband and I never passed through that area or little towns. He is a retired navy seal among other things. He was born and raised in a little village in Arkansas right up next to the Missouri boot heel. Raised by cotton farmers. He didn’t fit in even though his father was very well respected . He has told me many times stories about his childhood. When he was sixteen and in a field on a tractor he found a nickel in his pocket. Decided to flip it and heads he would leave and tails he would stay. It came up heads so he walked away from the field and didn’t return until he had graduated from high school in Tennessee and enlisted in the Navy. I was like he had just been gone to the store. Anyway his dad told him he fouled his tracks for a distance and decided he wasn’t going to try getting you back. Anyway I guess these people in small towns across America if go off the road to far it can get real different. Thanks. Enjoyed your experience in eastern Washington. Stay safe.

So far, I haven’t seen this in Canada. You appeared vulnerable to these individuals. I have guerrilla camped out there but was not visible thank goodness. I was on a bike tour in Somerset, NJ and stopped to make a phone call on a Sunday and pulled into a small parking lot of a business that wasn’t opened. A woman came out and started screaming at me she was calling the police. I told her i was just making a phone call and couldn’t do it in traffic and would promptly go. She went back inside and came out with a dustbin of dirt and threw it on me.

Great video and well done. But there's more than just topography to navigate. This isn't Scandinavia, where the ancient law of allemansrëtten (i.e. "every man's right) is still in force. In Scandinavia, you can camp three days in any spot, but then you must move on. It's from ancient times, to allow movement, commerce and pilgrimage over land owned by others. There was no threat to land owners, as there is here, today, by laws of adverse possession. Landowners in Eastern Washington are likely to be well apprised of legal threats to their way of life. We on the Wet Side, having less to lose, don't think about such things. We could fix that by adopting the Scandinavian model, "every man's right", which guarantees the right to travel while protecting landowners from adverse effects.

Catching up here, better late than never. Sorry you got caught in a political climate with lack of compaction. Some followers of Jesus have lost the way, and now follow a Demagogue. The economy in small farm towns is very depressed, mechanized farming or mechanical labor. The need for people to support the industry is gone and so are the hard -working God fearing folks, and business. It used to take hundreds of workers to farm, now 4 or 5 do all the work. One other thing, remember your car is equipped with a catalytic converter they start lots off fires. In dry grass or a wheat field and a fire in that part of the land can be devastating. thank you

Maybe you should consider it's not them, it's you. You did dumb shit, and people called you on it. End of story.

Just shows you dont have respect or manners for others you think you are entitled to do what ever you want to and get upset when you cant. It is horrible saying this is the meanest town😢 instead it should say you are the most entitled person around.

Yeah people in middle of nowhere are crazy, I grew up in the country. Also the media got therm all afraid of people. You got to dumb down a bit when talking with them.

I feel bad that you had to experience this Rockhopper, but on the west side of the mountain ranges you will find nothing but kindness.

All the blue hairs so accepting of people with different view points as long as you agree with them. Regardless of location most people do not take kindly to people they do not know wandering around on their property. Plenty of public land in Washington to wander around on, use it!

I’m watching “Itchy Boots” as she explores rural Iraq. I believe she is actually safer in much of Iraq than she would be in eastern Washington!! How sad that is!😳😥
