My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

Happy Birthday - 19 AGAIN ! So enjoy your practical side of repair. I am 87 years old , live in a retirement home where they mow the grass, Trim the bushes and push all the snow for us (I live in central Illinois). But in years past I had all the power equipment and kept it running myself (when I could), but wish I had your channel then . Would have been a great help. Congratulations on your channel growth and thanks for a great show !

Happy Birthday, I took a small engine repair class in high school and it has been invaluable to me and my family for fixing things, your videos are also a big help. finding out about the differences in the various brans alone has been a big help. The differences in the mowers you showed today reminds me of the ones on the new john deere s series, the 100-130 have the new "quick change" oil filters that cost $70, for the cost of 2 oil changes you can get the s140 that has a bigger, thicker deck, and a traditional oil filter costing $10.

Actually on the spindles that have sealed bearings, all you need to do is pry off the bearing cover rings(cap) that face toward the grease zerk. Then the grease will eventually get to the bearings.

Happy Birthday! After watching lots of your videos, I found myself a John Deere 245 built in 1994. I spent a couple weeks resurrecting it & am blown away at how well it was built. It will literally snap your neck I you hit the throttle too quickly! I accidentally forgot to attach one of the 4 points of the mowing deck and it complete unscrewed the new blade I installed. I assumed I the spindle would surely be broken. To my surprise, it was in good working order still. I simply bolted the blade back on (after checking to see it was not bent) and as I manually rotated the deck belt, both spindles rotated properly and the blades were still level to each other. I sincerely doubt the newer models currently available would be so forgiving. Long story short, armed with the knowledge you share, I was able to restore a quality mower to great usable condition again. Thanks & God Bless!!!

Happy Birthday! I love your channel! So, here in Florida (and much of the South), fishing is a way of life. Outboards are crazy expensive and can take months to get repaired. Lately, a lot of guys have been converting to "gator tail" or "swamp motor" designs where they hook a Harbor Freight lawnmower engine to a long tail kit so they have a 100% air cooled outboard. The idea is the engines are so cheap that it is worth replacing the engine out every 4-6 years rather than paying a marine mechanic to fix a 20+ year used outboard. Kits vary. Some high end kits allow you to even spin the motor all the way around for full-powered reverse. Would you consider doing a "project build" where you build a boat engine from one of these kits and tell us all the pitfalls you see from a small engine mechanic's point of view? You could then sell it to recover the money.

I remember my wife getting pissed at me when I purchased a Badboy 8 years ago for $3800 it was a Badboy 48" MZ with the Kawasaki FR engine. 8 years lady mowing in east, TX it has never been in the shop yet for anything knock on wood. Just serviced it yesterday and replaced the blades. It has been a great mower so far, but this Badboy was hard to find with a Kawasaki I had to drive 2 hours to get mine. I will not touch any small engine unless it is a Kawasaki or Honda. I know what runs well and lasts a long time they cannot be beat.

Happy Birthday!!! Been buying from a local authorized Husqvarna, Toro, and Echo dealer for years. They have been so good to me when it comes to DYI service and fixes with information and guidance. Seeing that I was willing to tackle a problem they gave me advice instead of simply saying bring it in. Price difference between them and the big box stores was so miniscule if any. So thankful the local dealers.

My local Husqvarna, Toro, Echo dealer charges an arm and a leg for everything and won't give out any information..... Cost me $35 for a head gasket for a B&S engine that I used to pay $5 a piece for back in the late 90's..... Asked them how much to fix the B&S engine for me, cuz I was feeling lazy and they quoted me $500 to remove and replace the valves and keepers and re-assemble the engine (I had already disassembled). All of 15 minutes worth of work.....$500. Then when I said no, they told me a new engine would cost upwards of $1500.....lol

At 3.06 you have a quick shot of a Poulan Pro. Same type I bought at Home Depot six years ago. It lasted less than 2 hours before the whole rear end assembly blew apart. Nobody on the 1-800 number that both Poulon and HD gives you will work on it. So we called HD, and the assistant store manager said to bring it back, which we did. As we were unloading it, the employee helping said "hey boss, why are we getting so many of these back?" We ended up paying 200 bucks more and got a Cub Cadet that was a bit bigger. I have two acres of lawn to mow. Other than spark plugs, air and fuel filters being replaced, absolutely nothing has gone wrong. What a great mower and I definitely think it is a real value for the money spent!!

Sorry Matt, BTDT got the T-shirt! It didn't work. All it did was to press the metal plate on the side of the bearings into the balls, binding up the bearings quite tightly. I relieved the pressure by removing the zerk fitting and all was well after that. Plus, lubrication of bearings is a science and there are people who spend their entire career working on just this. Adding your auto parts store grease to whatever the OEM has chosen, may not work well, as there are different chemical makeups of grease and some are incompatible with each other.
