A weird thing you'll notice with Shift Up is that they *REALLY* like Nier Automata and it shows extremely well in both Nikke and Stellar Blade (from the little i've seen of it). Nikke having a premise involving robot girls fighting to save humanity with the poster girl having a very similar personality to 2B (even having a similarly pronounced name in the form of Rapi, who she shares a JP VA with to my memory). I'll admit they also took from Nier in more ways than in regards to it's cultural impact (how big girls asses are, despite 2B actually having a pretty small ass herself), to where the actual Nier collab they did have pretty much gave 2B a massive BBL, as well as a free costume without the skirt because of course. I didn't know however that Stellar Blade actually had composers from Nier working on it, and honestly, that's pretty cool

It sounds like it would also cause an inflation in certain characters depending on the week. Imagine TF2 but there was always a Medic or an Engineer. Fighting Games would have it the worst, even if buffs were banned in tournaments. One week, you would only see Luke's in ranked.

That's....probably not true. Yeah consistency is important but having played the game the buffs are cool and potentially clinch-wortht but if it helps creatively I'm all for it. For example, my favorite one is if scarlet witch and magneto are on the field magneto can hit triangle to briefly buff his projectiles with a sword swing. That's cool but let's say next season(it specifies season my guy) magneto gets a buff with storm where she can zap him and his attacks get a lightning buff or his shields last a little longer for being supercharged...that's cool, not dead on arrival. More stuff to balance but it really is a nice cherry on top rather than being key to having a good magneto Plus it's a hero shooter you're gonna likely either go all in on one person or have to learn multiple guys.

Original comment meant buffs as in general positive changes to a characters abilities, not the specific team synergy they have with heroes. If its only changing which KIND of buff then that could work. But they're referring to Overwatchs method of balancing which was to basically let a few heros be overpowered for a bit before being toned down. Rinse and repeat. Needless to say this resulted in an imbalanced, lazily tuned system of always dealing with some annoying broken hero, while the heroes that needed attention languished from any long term or progressive changes to their kits. The people who liked the powered up hero eventually lost out on the buffs after they're taken away, and the people learning to counter it also lose out and are merely frustrated for a little bit. It pleases no one but the people making it, as it was the equivalent of throwing up their hands ands saying *"Hey what can we do, this shits always gonna be super busted"*

The contract thing is reminiscent of Shadow of Morder in 2014 that had a simillar egregious NDA, which was also unnecessary cause the game was really good with an innovative Nemesis System. Putting that aside, Marvel Rivals seems pretty polished. The artstyle pops, most of the VAs from Marvel Midnight Suns reprise their roles, all of the character designs are great (Punisher looks too much like a Gears of War character, but that's about it), and characters have rather distinct abillities that vary the cast.

It got cancelled though and the Squad game happened instead. I'm letdown by the cancellation as well. Imagine losing to Two-Face and he later takes control over a section of the city that you have to take back. The dynamic would work perfectly for Batman's setting.

Woolies reaction to the buff thing is wierd to me , my reason: in fighting games Devs put out patches with nerfs and buffs but never tell you to play a certain character for meta. In the fgc you have to wait for a tournament player or max to make a tier list that says this and this is meta this is strong etc etc . In marvel rivals correct me if I am wrong, if the buff is a free rotator its actually the Devs straight up telling you this is meta now. Play this guy. So if it's a free rotator I would consider this honesty. It helps the weak be stronger for a while and the strong get stronger for a while.

My only comment is "juice" is not a great term and sounds like marketing mumbo. Rami Ismail iirc (edit: wrong Vlambeer person, actually Jan Willem Nijman) did a talk about the team's approach to their games (nuclear throne, luftrausers, etc) and they referred to all of that as gamefeel wayyyy back when (though the talk starts saying that game feel is an awful term too - but it's tangible and it conveys the major component of this element of game design being the sensations returned to the player and the game having "feel" envoked through all the small loving touches added by the developers). In my mind, that's a better descriptor that still encompasses what you are trying to achieve, but without the gross ass marketing/pr/TED-talk sensation that juice gives. Juice to me conveys fake and glitzy, and sauce isn't much better.

Don't trash on the game when you have your facts wrong They have completely misunderstood the game, first of all, they haven't said yet that characters will have to be bought, if they are copying overwatch like we think, they will know how bad an idea that is. Second, the power bonuses come from a team up mechanic and benefit at least 2 characters if you have them on the team at the same time. Otherwise, there are no character bonuses. Also, the bonuses are not weekly. They are labeled as a seasonal bonus, so its more likely a 3 month rotation.

I think there's a principle to the Stellar Blade conversation - It's what was marketed, it's what people were promised, and at the last minute it was changed. Why shouldn't people be upset at being flat-out lied to? "They're gooners" isn't an answer.

Games change all the time, up to and even after release. You can't expect everything you see pre-release to be in the final game exactly the same. At the end of the day the overall product is still largely the same, so the level of outrage seems a little ridiculous. Nerfing Radahn was a larger change to the game but didn't have people this upset.

@@themacewens you've got a point there, the Switch version in comparison has no changes planned on it. But honestly, I can't really be bothered to be outraged by this. Stellar Blade's MC is still _very_ hot. The other outfits are still all there. Sony doesn't have all the power, there's still pushback from actual devs. I guess we'll see in 10 years if this worry people have is completely justified and we end up having censored outfits to the point no sexiness is allowed in media anymore?
