This game is on 4 year old system has a 60m install base. It shouldnt struggle to sell on a 60m system.Sales do matter without sales there is no NEXT game especially if it sells poorly.... Ive seen really quality games sell poorly and never get more games due to poor sales..

I think the reason for why Nintendo fans get so offended by things like this, is because when everybody talks about how bad the gaming industry is right now, they tend to leave/forget Nintendo is a part of it and doing(mostly) the right things. I've seen videos/articles claiming astro bot is what the industry needs right now(including yours), when clearly Nintendo has been doing this the whole switch generation. So even though Nintendo fans overreact alot of times, I do understand there frustration when people tend to ignore Nintendo.

I'm 35, I have had an SNES, N64, ps1, ps2,ps3,ps4,ps5 and a switch. Ive played a lot of games and for awhile I did abandon nintendo for awhile but I've come to realize, nintendo does really innovate and the other two always imitate. This generation has been such a let down I'm so thankful my love for nintendo reignited in 2017 with the switch

I love it but at the end of the day YOU have to experience it. I disagree with @therealist1 in it being overhyped and a lot of ppl do as well. (Probably some cringe Nintendo tribalism on their part which is sad for them so I’m not upset about it cuz my life doesn’t solely revolve around gaming) but yeah I hope you can experience the game at some point. Nothing against Astrobot, but i think one of the reasons why Nintendo fans can be critical about this is because, during the 2000s, playstation and xbox gamers bullied and mocked them online for liking this kind of colorful, arcade like platform/adventure games. They saw it as backwards, inmature, and lame, similar to how the company itself was viewed at the time... And now they are enjoying a title inspired by the works they used to hate on.

Astro Bot wears its influences on its sleeve, but they’re quality influences (e.g. Mario Sunshine/Galaxy) and in the end, it’s doing its own thing. Truly one of the best 3D platformers ever, a breath of fresh air, and a perennial candidate for GOTY IMO.

I don’t really think Mario needs to learn anything from Astro Bot cause Mario is already a top quality franchise, especially nowadays. Sure you could make that argument back in the mid 2010’s but not this time. If anything I think Mario Odyssey has become severely underrated and kinda overhated. Sure it may have “too many moons” but I think the majority of the experience in Odyssey still rivals other platformers including its prior series. If any platformer franchise that really needs to take lessons from Astro Bot it would be Sonic the Hedgehog as that franchise is still sorta struggling from maintaining quality to this day.

I completed it and gotten all of the trophies, but I think some people are kind of overreacting about how good it really is. I think people should let their opinion on it to sit overtime to see if it does hold up later on. However, I do think Astro Bot is a very important game for the industry at large and we need more games like it in the AAA space.

I've been a gamer since the Atari days. In all those years, I've been an owner of many systems... Most of them are Nintendo. So I'm a life long Nintendo fan. I too remember Super Mario Bros. being released, and it rocked my world. I've owned the NES, SNES, GAMECUBE, N64, Wii, Wii U, and Switch on DAY 1 - all except for the NES. And I've owned a Dreamcast, PS3, PS4, and PS5. I mostly just play my switch. But now I have a wonderful reason to play my PS5 - and that reason is Astro Bot. I agree, it is an outstanding platformer - and I put it up there with the top platform games ever released. Astro Bot is equal with Mario IMO. And I am very thankful that! I'm glad Nintendo FINALLY has some platforming competition!

I bought the PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation VR back in 2018 and Astro Bot was the game included with the VR headset. What an absolute revelation that game was! I remember thinking when playing through it that if Nintendo decided to eventually do VR, Astro Bot would be a great blue print for Mario’s first VR adventure. At the end of the day I’m really happy that PlayStation made such a great full length adventure for Astro Bot on the PS5 that everyone is raving about and I hope it sells really well. If it rivals Mario in terms of quality (it won’t in sales), that’s a great thing for the industry. Cheers!

Haha just made a video on the same topic but in a bit of different point of view. I loved Astro Bot, 100%'d it, but the simpler moveset keeps it back from being over something like Odyssey to me. I never played Mario galaxy. But I grew up with Mario NES. Mario 2, 3 and world .Mario 64 blew my mind and I have wholesome memories of Mario Wii 2 since I played it countless times with my kids and wife❤. I played Mario odyssey and I though I was done with this type of games since I didn’t enjoy odyssey. I’m playing Astro bot right now and I can say this is the best colechtethon o have ever play.

It’s music, characters, interactive design and world are its own thing. It definitely has a robotic inside of a console world feel and that’s nothing like Mario

So Mario Sunshine gets creamed by the general platformer fan community for its movement options to this very day. Astro Bot has a even more limited movement set based on Super Mario Sunshine the refrain is "it did everything right" I am lost here. Astro Bot took elements of Mario and Kirby but took put it a more restrictive framework. The problem with this overestimation of Astro Bot is that Team Asobi is not getting any feedback they could use to make a Astro Bot sequel better. This is a great start for Astro Bot as a traditional platforming franchise. However, I do not want this to be as high as the series goes because the game is not being criticized for being too rigid and structured with no opportunities for personal expression in gameplay. To me it is almost like people are using Astro Bot to freshen the stench of Concord out of air.

And why does a platformer, such as Astrobot, absolutely _have_ to aim for player expression and, according to you, less "rigid and structured gameplay"? Astrobot's aim was clearly different, something that everyone can just play. Movement options weren't necessary at all to have fun and enjoy the experience, they focused on tight platforming, physics, varied power ups that change every level completely alongside all the references and cameos. It's _not_ trying to be Mario 64 or Odyssey with all the movement tech. It's a different kind of platformer, and I think you should change your expectations moving forward. The game has been absolutely flooded with praise for a reason. But you decide to nitpick over something that wasn't even necessary.

@@samy29987 Expansive movement options are what make a game like Mario 64 and Galaxy so enjoyable long term. Astro Bot was starting to get boring to me as you reached the end as the game offers no gameplay dynamics to make each play through of a given stage type unique as you master the game's controls. It gives players a gold star to reach for above just traversing levels and finding bots. Team Asobi intends to put a time trial mode in the game as DLC so they seem to understand movement mastery is important but did not put enough movement options in the game for a genuinely high or satisfying skill ceiling. Look Astro Bot is a excellent first go round but the sequel will have nothing to offer if Team Asobi is convinced by the media and fans that it is perfect as it is. Astro Bot is great, but given the standards of 3-D platformers today it is not a masterpiece. The intention of this game was to be a traditional 3-D platformer. Well movement options are part of that these days.

I just want the next Astro Bot to be something truly special and I believe ulterior motives in the media regarding a certain "live service" debacle with Sony is getting in the way of proper discourse concerning Astro Bot.

@@Ruleof2Review They’ve made platformers but this is a little too Mario inspired. Be original. I’m not the biggest Sony guy to begin with. Their games are like movies. I have more respect for them making their interactive movies but this game is a rip off of Mario and thats obvious by the comparisons and the “Super Mario Galaxy 3” title people have been giving it. The game hasn’t been selling well in Japan and I really do hope it flops. 🤷🏿‍♂️ PS fans don’t like kiddie games like Mario remember?? We have enough imitation in gaming.. how bout some real innovation, Sony??
