He deserves every bit of it! I'm the same age as Stevie Wonder, I grew up with him and his great music since we were 12. No one could do what he could do, always innovating and out in front. Some of you younger folks might not know that Stevie was born blind, making his accomplishments even more fantastic! Along comes Jacob who picks up where Stevie left off, which is saying a LOT! It takes sheer brilliance to redo a classic old hit and make it even better! go Jacob, we love you!

I think the thing with Jacob is that he makes music with real emotions and that aren't obnoxious, most prodigies are insanely talented and skilled, but can never make music that is relatable to the "average" person because they don't allow themselves to explore spaces that seem "too simple" or somewhat stupid to them. Jacob isn't afraid of learning and improving through doing something he's never done before and just pouring his feelings onto a song, i mean, listen to "the sun is in your eyes", he recorded that on his iphone with just a guitar and his voice and it still sounds amazing, with somewhat complex playing and amazing lyrics, but it's also very easy to listen and is very relatable

2020. Only discovered Jacob a few months ago. I've had to wire my jaw shut whilst listening to his arrangements. I read with interest here the opposing views of 'genius' and 'too busy', and also the lack of original writing. All very valid points, for now. However, in my 50 years listening to music I've seen many artists grow across their careers to a point where they achieve this level of technical ability.....afters literally decades of experience. I would just like to remind everyone that this gentleman was producing music to this standard when he was just 19... 19. Just imagine what is to come. Greetings from Ireland.

He not only has oodles of soul, grooves, sings perfectly in tune, arranged all that with some dazzlingly close harmonies and surprising modulations in there, plays a dozen instruments, but - oh yeah - he just invented a whole new art form! I know people have been overdubbing for a while, but this takes it to an insane level, even for youtube. Here is a list of less talented people whose feet you could put back on the ground before his: Justin Bieber. Kylie Minogue. Robbie Williams. Sting. The Rolling Stones (yes, I said it). Because it's not sugar coated, because it has some complexity, this man's music won't probably reach the mass audience they have - so if a pedestal helps him, give him a pedestal.

Disabled musician here, Jacob filled every gap. He found notes that haven't existed with just 12 notes and thousands of years of music later. I'm just grateful i got the opportunity to listen and learn from Jacob's music. Thanks Jacob.

You know, it's really amazing how consistent and even predictable many areas of life are. After watching this killer presentation by this extremely talented youngster, I looked to see the pathetic number of dislikes among the nearly ten thousand number of likes. No matter what, there will always be jealousy, there will always be haters. Most of these aren't even legitimate in their feelings and assessments. It's simply a matter of reflexive opposition by envious, losers in misery.... And we all know what misery loves.... Wonderful job, Jacob.

Can it get any hipper? It starts with the groove, but the harmonies, modulations, moving contrapuntal lines, etc...and he is soooo young! I'm not sure you can teach this... It would defy reason if he never listened to Take6, but even if he did he still adds his own thing, as it should be. It's so remarkable that I cannot even be jealous... with all the BS in the world, senseless violence, etc, it is so refreshing to see this genius...and the last thing he looks is pretentious...I am so proud and happy for the musical talents my kids may possess, but this is on another level if not planet...where will he be in another decade? We (at least I) have to wonder how many other young (or not) undiscovered musical gems are are out there...

A GENIOUS ! I heard on a radio pograms that he also uses quarter tones in his singing, which, on top of his being a great musician, produces a very subtle effect very seldom heard in occidental music... FABULOUS!!💯💖

People have commented about the genius of this 19 year old (at the time ). The thing that I find stunning, is the several LAYERS of genius that this video reveals. There is the OBVIOUS presentation that the musical genius presents, but the visual presentation is pure genius as well. Further, for a NINETEEN year old to possess the SOCIAL savvy and accompanying courage to step out and even MAKE this presentation... Genius indeed.

In addition to showcasing Jacob Collier’s amazing talent, this video is one more example of why Stevie Wonder’s music is brilliant, ever rich with potential to be taken in a thousand different exciting alternative directions (but never exceeded, of course).

The reason you can’t top Stevie’s version, is because it has Stevie in it. Stevie, is the instrument that makes Stevie’s recordings unbeatable, and you can’t purchase a Stevie. Anyway, I just crawled out from under a rock, and realized Jacob is a genius, and am in the process of throwing all my instruments away…… 🤣…Nah, he’s inspiring!! I can play just about anything I can strike or pluck, and I’m a wonder kid in my own right. So there, Jacob! 🤣 oh, and I’m a Stevie as well, to boot.
@stevebeye158510 ай бұрын
I fully agree with your comment, I’m a monstrous Stevie Wonder fan. Have been ever since I ever heard him. I was born in 1971 and heard all the 70’s hits coming out of car radios and clock radios, and big fat Pioneer stereo systems.

His harmony and transitions. Everytime I hear it, it's like he's telling me to just be my best self. There's no such thing as a wrong note in a chord. As long as it is striving for consiquence. Working towards resolve. Maybe for moments, finding it. It's okay you are, where you're at. This chord might sound ugly now, but it won't, when it finds it's place to settle down.

@Vegardriise10 жыл бұрын
Shyuum It is so much more than minor pentatonic. The chords and subs are really inovative. If you don't hear it, it is due to your lack of understanding.
@Shyuum10 жыл бұрын
Chords that came from minor pentatonic scale, did you even know that? These "chords and subs" as you call them are just uper structures of that an expecific voicing played separately in this case and the rest is just circle of fourths like Autumn Leaves, Just the Two of Us, and basically almost all of the Jazz repertory so these "chords and subs" are not inovative, they been in Jazz, R&B and Soul for the last years, and I'm the one who have a "lack of understanding", I went to your profile and you don't even listen to Jazz, In case you didn't know this is "Contemporary Jazz" LOL you're the type of "rebel" internet guy who learns how to play guitar from basic KZbin videos, when you have a deep "understanding" of harmony , we can chat a little bit.

All of this arrangement is not something impossible to understand, all the chords are logical. BUT, this is just an enormous work, the groove, this latin passage, this skill on the doublebass, this beautiful arrangement are things you can't ignore. Of course you can say there is harmonies that are not complicated, and HOPEFULLY I would say, do you know guys what is music ? Something you'll say to 'Damn, this fking sounds' and it is.
