@chanmentzer wow, that was a life altering moment. I love country music. Lefty Frizelle was my dads best friend. He was my unofficial (were Baptist) godfather. He got me my first guitar and got a bit "too much heavy in the cup" and tuned it so tight that the neck snapped. Must have been gorilla strings. This Don Williams song Imagine That has me labeled as crazy at verizon. When my husband died, I made this my ringtone. Years later, I upgraded, and the ringtone was not compatible with my new phone. I called and said, "I can't find my ringtone in the store. It says it is not compatible. They said yea! Like make due. I almost had a stroke begin crying and said, "No ... my husband died... I can't. I need this song... it is my coping .... they actually walked me through using ringtone maker, and I made my ringtone of Imagine that so that I could breathe. I have no idea why, but it just helps me.

Im 19 years old. Growing up, my dad used to always sing Don Williams and I fell in love with Mr. Williams' voice at a young age. I saw Don Williams at Stagecoach 2013 and when the first line of Good Old Boys Like Me rang out amongst the crowd it literally brought tears to my eyes. He sounds EXACTLY like he did on studio albums from the 80s. I love this man and it will be a sad day when he is gone...

Thanks! I found the same to be true when I got to see him about a year before he passed. I was so fortunate to have the chance. He had already retired but had a comeback because he loved his work so much. He was one of my favorites growing up and had the most honest voice I have ever heard.

I saw him in 2013 and I was totally stunned by his sound. It was in a medium size venue, like where you'd normally watch a symphony play. It was SO GOOD.
@wildwesternmedicine8 ай бұрын
@@ModelARider That's a very good way to describe it. A couple years ago I read an old music magazine article that described his stage presence, and the way he hardly moved at all except to sing into the mic--I'd never noticed before, but that was a very accurate observation. I think he was someone who was very focused on channeling the energy and spirit of the music over anything else. I also feel very, very fortunate to have heard him play live. I was in Oregon, and afterwards I called my sister in Montana to say "He's playing where you are really soon--get tickets!!", and she did. She and her husband had a great time as well. She said that she sat next to an Irish man who was in tears :)

A stunning reminder of what was country music before it hit the brick wall of the nineties becoming a mish mash of ridiculous Stetsons and shaking booties... Don Williams the clear line back to Don Gibson just one of the threads interweaving a bountiful tapestry, Hank Williams-Johnny Cash the Mt. Rushmore of Nashville's achievement.

Thanks Keith for helping remember what Country Music was and could be. We don't have a lot of these precious "country" singers left, and the newer artists are so concerned with their idols from POP music that they ignore the people who made Country music great and paved the way for them. It was Merle Haggard and Charlie Pride and Ray Price and Willie Nelson and Don Williams and on and on, not Lionel Ritchie and Kiss and some of the other artists you insist on having on the awards shows today.
