Hate to break it for you, but if anyone actually read Ny law book the punishment for a class e felony is no jail, probation for 1 to 4 years. And yes I researched it, there is not one case in NY that a person with Class E felony went to jail. Usually in appeals it gets cut down to a misdemeanor, and a majority of them get over turned.

I was driving, alone, and screamed, “Yes!”, and thrust a fist in the air, and I’m Canadian. That’s how much I’ve loathed that man for decades. Since his gross misogyny on Howard Stern, I’ve thought he was a db, and couldn’t stand his sneering face, and sadly, inexplicably, too many Americans voted for the racist/misogynist in 2016. Shocked does not begin to describe my reaction in November of 2016. This is finally a tiny sliver of accountability for the life-long criminal, and pathological liar. I hope he gets jail time. And about his criminal history, don’t all of those fraud convictions show a pattern of criminality. I realize his previous convictions were civil, but why can’t that be taken into account for a pattern of behaviour.

As a European, the idea that the US could ‘show us’ something on convicting leaders or former leaders, is laughable. Do you know what happens in Europe if a candidate or leader has credible allegations against them? Their party will force them to step aside/resign! Being impeached while continuing to be in office, does not happen here!

Yeah, not buying that line about the Founding Fathers never predicting a criminal president. It's called the 25th amendment. The 25th amendment really came around after the assassination of JFK and people realized that technically there was no succession plan laid out in the constitution and that everything was just tradition up to that point and not law. Maybe it’s time for a new amendment that would bar felons from running, being, president.

Unfortunately any constitutional amendments preventing a convicted felon from running, should have been passed BEFORE this conviction. Otherwise he and his supporters will claim victimisation again. Which he will anyway. I cannot understand why Democrats are sitting on their hands while they CAN do something. They treat Trump as though he's an anomoly and once he's dealt with, politics will return to some semlance of normalcy. He IS now the norm and sane, reasonable politicians and parties need to do whatever the F they have to, to keep these extremists away from power.

Let's also never forget this in 2020... A federal judge on Thursday ordered the release of Michael Cohen to home confinement, agreeing with his lawyers that he was wrongly sent back to prison after making public statements critical of President Donald Trump. Cohen was told by a probation officer that he would have to agree to a complete ban on speaking in public, including by publishing a book, as a condition of continued home confinement. "I've never seen such a clause in 21 years of being a judge and sentencing people," U.S. District Court Judge Alvin Hellerstein said. "How can I take any other inference but that it was retaliatory?"

Yeah he will have lost his right to vote completely (local statewide elections) in many but not all states.... and maybe an unpopular opinion but if incarceration was truly about rehabilitation then there should be no reason to keep previously convicted felons from voting, especially after release Edit clarity

In Florida, you have to complete every aspect of your sentence to regain your voting rights as a felon. So if he’s sentenced to time served, he would need to serve all that time prior to November to be able to vote in the election. Really depends on the sentencing!

no other US president has committed crimes that should have been punishable through the courts...so I feel like this is a clean play...our justice system is just calling balls and strikes as they always do (no exceptions) ... I also believe that it's highly unlikely that any sitting or future president will do anything like aid in war crimes or ethnic cleansing or genocide through arms sales because now that a serious crime like those committed by the former president have been adjudicated...why would anyone think they can get away with lesser crimes like helping with a mass murder campaign ?
