Rest of them were "conquered over the next 172 years." Ukraianian territories, like all territories, are not about what you think that belong to you, but what you are able to keep. The sooner the war stops and a settlement/peace treaty is signed, the more territories you will get to keep. Your so-called "International law" has not been respected by many States for a very long time. The world saw the hypocrisy with Israel. No, under the international law, Israel, an occupying force does not have the right to defend itself. No, the USA, under the international law, did not have the right to invade other soverign countries based on a lie they later admitted. The problem started when international law was broken time after time during the unipolar world. So again, understand these laws and institutions were written by the West and for the West and its allies.

The problem is that with “peace” you mean “surrender”. But it’s understandable that Russians don’t grasp simple western concepts. And ANY actual peace deal must come with actual military protection to prevent a breach of the peace! That means Russia either allowing Ukraine to massively increase its military, including getting nukes to be on par with Russia. Of NATO protecting the agreement on Ukraine’s behalf. Obviously no one will merely trust an aggressor promising anything, Ukraine believes/knows that it would mean… “until Russia decides to restart the war to grab more territory”. Better then fight on than giving Russia time to rebuild its army. If you look at Russias and the NATO nations economy, you will by using simple math find that even according to Russias own false “trust us on this” GDP, Russia will have to spend 40% of its GDP to be able to meet the NATO nations agreed minimum of 2% of theirs. Not 6% as your dear leader tells you! And then that’s not including an estimated 20% cut to the kleptocrats and the “lover ranking” corrupt. Only the European allies military capacity is larger than Russia’s and China’s together (and then China’s is the major one). Only the Scandinavian nations soon have a military capacity on par with Russias, but the manpower. Numbers may be an issue for Russias ancient strategy. But the west used evidently better methods where quality is the important factor. Now… what Putin and perhaps Trump forgets when they think the US will/should just say no to NATO and further aid to Ukraine is that Europe also has a trump card: It buy’s so much arms from the US. If the US withdrawals, the Europeans will stop buying US made arms and make their own. And in no way would Trumps donors be happy about that. Because ut creates so many jobs for Americans. And really, the GOP in the red states would now after the election begin to complain if they can’t continue to get funding to produce arms and munitions for Ukraine. Ukraine is a future source of income for the US: The US gives them their arms, but in the future Ukraine will be good customers as “thanks”.
