Theodor Meron ONLY served on a "international panel of experts" that they convened to simply ask ADVICE whether the ICC had jurisdiction, not to rule on the actual merits of issuing the warrants, it's also unclear what Meron said (he could have been opposed for all we know). Just to further your point, the commentator in this video is also misleading in his claim that the court has no jurisdiction over Israel (and also later implying that they couldn’t have jurisdiction over Palestine because they don’t have a state). That is totally false and has been addressed by the court in the past. The ICC has jurisdiction over the Palestinian territories because, in 2015, the government of the state of Palestine accepted the ICC’s jurisdiction (ironically, Hamas played a part in accepting the ICC’s jurisdiction). So, Israel may not be a signatory, but because the Israeli crimes have been committed within Palestinian Territories, the court has jurisdiction over them. It’s what they ruled in the past and what they ruled in response to Israel’s objections to the May 2024 requests for arrest warrants. And guess what, this is the same reason that the ICC has jurisdiction to arrest Putin - because even though Russia is not under the court’s jurisdiction, Ukraine is. Israel and its supporters may not like that, but it’s really that simple and that true.

It's not just an opinion. The court has jurisprudence on their side. The jurisdiction of the court was expanded when they issued the arrest warrant for Putin. At that time, Russia was no longer a member of the court. However, the crimes were committed in Ukraine, against Ukraine, and, since Ukraine is a member of the court, therefore the court had jurisdiction to rule on the issue. The Israeli crimes were committed in Palestine, against Palestine, and Palestine is a member of the court. You can't expand the jurisdiction to go after your enemies, but then restrict the jurisdiction once they go after your allies. The law is the same for everyone.

Many of the settlements are for Jewish Israelis only. This has been studied by U.N. groups and even Israeli human rights groups which have found it to be apartheid and occupation.

This guy has no idea what he’s talking about. Yes the court does not have jurisdiction over territories of non member states (Israel) but the war crimes are being committed by Israel NOT on Israeli territory but Palestinians territories. Palestine being a part of the ICC gives the court jurisdiction to investigate crimes that are committed there. Same with Russia and Ukraine. The court has no jurisdiction over Russian territories but the alleged crimes are committed in Ukrainian territory and Ukraine is a member state of the court giving the court the legal right to investigate those alleged crimes. A simple google search would’ve removed his ignorance so I’m sure it’s intentional and intended to discredit the court.

As per the Rome Statute articles 85 through 87, countries that do not comply with ICC rulings have repercussions at the UN. If we cannot accept the law and treaties that our governments have committed to then we all live in a banana world. Impunity to any government must stop.
