Donald Trump Tariff: On his first day as president, Donald Trump
announced plans to impose a 10% tariff on China, effective February 1,
in response to the country’s role in supplying fentanyl to Mexico and
Canada. Trump also criticized China for not doing enough to intervene
in the Ukraine war. In response, China rejected accusations from the
Quad countries regarding its activities in the East and South China
Seas. The Quad reaffirmed its commitment to countering Beijing,
marking a central focus of Trump’s second term.

@@ianturpin9180 Tariff’s only dent import sales because they’re priced out of competition. But in those many cases where there ISN’T a domestic equivalent of the same cost and quantity: buyers are left paying more to cover the tariffs and there’s no guarantee a cheaper domestic product will EVER be available. Trump’s tariffs beat up Americans until it hurts them to buy from importers. Trump’s tariffs do nothing to directly impact the importer. Tariffs are an economic pressure to push buyers to other alternatives. That’s all.

No possible. Unless you want to make $4 a week. It's not a realistic proposition to retain much of manufacturing in the US. Some could return theoretically if the EPA loosened some restrictions but it's not really feasible. We don't have the equipment or infrastructure here anymore for large scale manufacturing. Also, most workers aren't in the trades anymore. Welding is big business but machinists have been on the decline for decades. I know, because I am one. I know 4 machinists and most have side gigs because full time work is hard to come by. So is it possible to recreate the infrastructure and training for old time trades? Yes. Will politicians invest the time and resources into all the nouns necessary? Probably not. Get used to your goods from overseas. Or start a business. No one took your jobs and no one is going to make it happen here.

Don has gone broke more than 6x personally. He lacks the savvy and has no grace in his “deal making”. You don’t make deals and keep allies with demands and attacks. The USA built a reputation for being the best market on the planet. Trump is taking a wrecking ball to that and some people are actually applauding their ill fortune that comes as a direct result.
