That's a nice system mate, we had a Technics seperates system when I was growing up in the 80s. I think it was the SU-Z2 or very similar released around 1981 so no CD player, just tape and radio. We didn't enter the CD era in our household until around 1990 or thereabouts with a Pioneer system.

I have just got my hands on almost the same system, the Turntable with mine is a fully automatic SL-J110R you could do with the tuner/controller ST-X301L with remote, the remote is a full system remote, even controlling the turntable!, the speakers I got with mine are SB-3130, there is also an optional graphic equalizer but unsure of the model number that connects to the phono sockets that are shunted on the back of the amp, there is even a dedicated cabinet built just for this system but they are going for silly money on fleabay. All in you got the start of a good classic Technics midi m8, good luck getting the rest of the stacker

+barnsleygit Since making this video, I've actually got the tuner and all remotes for it :o)

I recently started collecting together some seperates from various places and ended up getting Technics SU-V460 AMP, Yamaha KX-580 Tape Deck (cost £10), marantz CD873 cd player (cost £25), SONY PS-LX46P turntable, Technics ST-Z450L Stereo tuner (cost £5) and Wharfedale Delta 30's (£45) all of it is pretty amazing and sounds fantastic. Dont think i would ever go back to using modern equipment, they just dont make stuff that good anymore (not cheaply anyway)

Yes, this is one of 2, in the snuggyma, we have a full size seperates system I'm slowly building. Got an arcam alpha amp, a technics cd player and a 1985 marantz single tape deck, sounds awesome :o)

I love technics stuff, i have some older kit not as nice as yours but it still sounds amazing. I would make sure you go for a belt driven turntable they sound better imo. You can still get the belts for them.

Was that an S Club 7 CD? I heard the intro of "Never Had a Dream Come True". The cassette deck on the left may need the azimuth (alignment) of the head adjusted, because if that is set wrong, the sound will be muffled. Usually there is either a small hole in the cassette door, or the door itself can be pulled off to allow adjustment of the azimuth screw on the tape head using a small Phillips screwdriver.

Loved the review..awesome... I thought it was Harry Hill at first. I have today just found the Technics Amp in a charity shop for a banging £20. I am trilled with the quality and sound stage. Could you inform me what model number the CD player is please, I have to have one. Kind Regards, Pete.

You appear to be missing the tuner too!, I have the same system (Had it at least 28 years!) I only recently bought a remote for it! I can't get it to work though other than for on/off!
@RetroGamerVX6 жыл бұрын
aflatminor ya, the tuner was given too me later after they found it. The remotes won't work unless you have the data cables connected at the back as different units seem to control different signals

Your issue with tape B sounds like a head alignment. A tiny screw driver should bring it around. Also, some of the early-on CD players weren't set up to play all types of CDs. Issues with CD-RWs crop up from time to time on vintage equipment. Folks forget that everything ever made isn't backwards compatible. Nice setup... probably came with a remote.
@RetroGamerVX10 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes, fixed that issue eventually with a good head clean :) we were handed the remotes and tuner a few weeks later too :)

Hi, wonder if you can advise please?, I had the same cassette deck but need a replacement. I can find similar technics models but not much luck for the RS-X980. My amplifier is an SU-X980D. Do you think a similar deck would work with this amp please?
@1msx2go10 жыл бұрын
Thats bloody awesome mate :)
@alexandrossotiropoulos56219 жыл бұрын
I think the sound issue with the deck is not due to alignment but because the deck needs demagnitization with a demagnitizer.
@RetroGamerVX9 жыл бұрын
+Alexandros Sotiropoulos Thanks :o) It started working fine after a good cleanout :o)

clean out works very good, I wanted to tell that to mess around with the head screws is not good.

Hi. I have the same amplifier. The left channel only works when surround is on. Should I get a new amp or does it play the music "correctly" with 2 speakers when surround is on?
