Doncaster Rovers 0-2 Crewe Alexandra (3-4 pens)

Something a little different for the channel. An “away” day, to my home town club Doncaster Rovers. Why not, always good to watch live football. Especially when so much is on the line. A chance for a spot in the league 2 play off final at Wembley. With a 2-0 win away at Crewe, Rovers were in the driving seat. Well that didn’t last long, with Crewe tying the aggregate score after 16mins. Wasn’t the greatest of games, lots of times the ball was in the air. Either team could have snatched it, though most chances weren’t that clear cut.
So in front of a near sell out crowd, we had extra time and then the lottery of penalties. It’s amazing being in a crowd and not being nervous about the result, as much as I would have liked Rovers to win for Zeph’s sake.
Wasn’t to be as they lost 4-3 on penalties. Max Stryjek with some early 💩housery that Danny Whitehall would have been proud of. Taking Rovers goalies water bottle, with pen notes on and launching it into the away end.
Hakeeb Adelakun with the decisive penalty that he failed to convert, meaning Crewe made it through to Wembley. Much to the delight of the fans who celebrated on the pitch. It’s not nice as a fan to see others on you pitch jubilant, had that with Boston at Scunny 🤦🏻

Lifelong Rovers fan here - got to say, well done Crewe. You stopped us playing our game so well - the first half we were utterly shellshocked! You knew from the first leg what you had to do, but just score-wise but tactically, and your lads executed it perfectly. And your fans sang their hearts out throughout. They were fantastic. I'm gutted we couldn't make it, especially after the run we went on, but if it's not going to be us, I hope it's you. Good luck on Sunday.

I don’t support Doncaster I don’t supported Crewe. But I would say to Crewe’s fans….learn to be generous in victory? A play off semi 2nd leg isn’t a word cup final. Let’s hope Crewe’s ticket sales go better for Wembley
