"Little" Huddersfield's ground was designed by HOK |(now Populous) a USA based multi national architectural practice with it's European Headquarters in London. It was built by Sir Alfred McAlpine and the basic arch design was later adopted by many clubs - and was also the inspiration for the Wembley Arch, often credited to Norman Foster, and as said below, also the Sydney Olympics. It was the first of it's type and won an RIBA award when first built. Bolton used the same Architects and it was built by Birse Construction.

As an American, I don't see ugly I see history and character. At least your football isn't played in baseball stadiums where the seating makes no sense and with a baseball diamond in the middle of the pitch.

History and character doesn't change the aesthetic of a place. Ugly is ugly.

Like you I really liked Grimsby’s ground when I visited a few years back; the wind whipping in off the North Sea can be a bit brutal though. My vote for ugliest ground has to go to The Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough - identikit and soulless.

That’s an interesting one, I did find Riverside a bit soulless too, it didn’t help that it was a night match and it was only about 60% full

Huddersfield's stadium is magnificent. Not a boring off the peg design like so many...

Didn't Huddersfield's stadium win a big architectural award back in the 1990's when it was built?
