Enjoying these videos, seeing the World from a different perspective. Be great to see the Leeds - York route via Horsforth and Harrogate. The route includes the Bramhope tunnel which goes under our house and we hear the trains via a vent shaft close by.

I can’t film that route as I don’t sign it and we don’t operate over it. Maybe one of the Northern guys will oblige.

What caused the near stop at around minute 19 - the blue rubbish in the undergrowth?
@doncoffey58205 жыл бұрын
We often get stopped there because the train in front has stopped at Cross Gates then passed through quite a long section.

Perspective from an American..... Well engineered route, smooth quick ride. I am impressed. I have some questions though, is this route strictly passenger? I seen zero freight here. The viaducts are quite impressive, how old are they and what are they constructed from? Last question......Do long distance trains run on this line?
@doncoffey58206 жыл бұрын
There are freight trains between York and Church Fenton (the four track section) then a few between Micklefield and Leeds but the latter is “at capacity” for passenger trains so they are “shoehorned” in between passenger services. The U.K. railway has outgrown itself in recent years. The viaducts are largely made from stone and are amazing considering their age. There are some long distance trains between London and Scotland and a few from the West Country but keep in mind that the whole of the U.K. is a similar size to Florida alone so nothing like your long distance services.

The bridges above are mostly stone, the section after micklefield is one of the oldest lines in the UK (1841 I think - leeds marsh lane station to hull) - the tunnel before leeds (Richmond hill) used to be a small 2-track tunnel and everyone had to sit in darkness and smoke before the train got into marsh lane station, so in 1860 they opened the entire hill up, largely by hand, constructing the massive tubular 5-track tunnel that persists today, built from brick. The viaduct at the end, (the entirety of leeds station is built on brick arches, girder bridges and more recently concrete pillars) between marsh lane and leeds east jn is mostly brick too. Interestingly back then they planned ahead and you'll notice that between micklefield and marsh lane all the over-bridges are built wide enough to accommodate 4 tracks since they anticipated growing levels of rail usage in the future.

The regular signal check at Crossgates due to a late running Northern service. Hazard of two stopping service being fitted in between six express services an hour.
@toxigames6 жыл бұрын
they should put 2 more tracks in the middle of Crossgates so fast trains can overtake the stopping services

What's the strange triple sound at 23:33?
@doncoffey58206 жыл бұрын
The GSMR (digital cab to shore) radio drops the signal once in a while. That noise is the warning for it but it only lasts a few seconds.

Why line electrification ends in the middle of nowhere at ~5:30?
@doncoffey58205 жыл бұрын
Its all about routes and budgets Klim. The idea is that one day they will all be electrified but for now, just sections are.
