Thank you Don; Your video's are one of my mainstays in my studies for my Advanced certificate. The heads up you shared about the site Daily Occurrences was nice distraction from all that there book learin .this was one of my favorites..............A Flair Airlines Ltd. Boeing 737-86J (C-FFLC/FLE311) from Winnipeg/James Armstrong Richardson, MB (CYWG) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) reported a remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) at 4000ft, approximately 12NM Northeast (NE) of CYYZ, over Canada's Wonderland. No operational impact. lol

Thank you, Ron! Yes, those Daily Occurrence reports are quite fascinating, aren't they?! I haven't had a peek in a while.

Thank you for putting these out there. Your videos have been incredibly informative and useful in preparing for the Basic Drone Operator's exam. I'm planning to take it tomorrow afternoon. Well presented and easy to digest information, and providing links to the relevant pages to read the information independently as well. This channel has been a great source of information, thank you!

Another great video. It all makes perfect sense, but the interpretation about riding a bicycle while operating a drone is vague (no mention). I wouldn't even consider operating a drone while riding on a road, but have done it on a bicycle trail (flying the Mini 2 that doesn't have follow mode, early on a Sunday). I guess it's best not even to think about doing it with the Air 2 S (my new drone), but it's sure tempting and I've seen it done right here on KZbin.

Applications like Litchi, Drone Deploy and Waypoints are also "autonomous" systems that you have to be able to exit in flight. I believe all of these have the ability to abort on your command.
@DonJoyce5 жыл бұрын
Yes, and I would think they are all fine as long as you don't leave them to fly your drone while you head off and do something else like biking or rock climbing or whatever.

Hello Don, I have a question regarding emergency checklists. What do you mean by control station failure and what should you do? Thanks!
@DonJoyce Жыл бұрын
Hi Adiraj! The 'control station' is your remote control device, including your phone if it connected to it. A failure could be some sort of lock-up, battery failure, or an control app crash. Your recovery procedure depends upon the situation and your model, but typical recovery procedures would be power cycling the device (RC controller or phone), connecting a power bank to the controller, or restarting the app. Hope that helps.

Hi Don. I assume the study guide link for basic operation includes all the required modules for the basic operation test.
@DonJoyce4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. The Study Guides and Droner's Guide materials I offer are essentially identical to the presentation material I show in my videos, with A FEW minor tweaks and additions. The PDFs include active links to other reference material. The main value is to have a searchable and browsable document that you can have open during the exam to help you more quickly get to information. Good luck with your exam!

Does the autonomous rules means any go-to-home failsafe (GPS) system is now banned since, by definition, they kick in when you lose control?
@DonJoyce5 жыл бұрын
Interesting interpretation! It is probably another example of a poorly worded regulation. The return to home feature is a safety feature. You must of course be prepared to re-take control as soon as possible.

With the new law in place is it mandatory to have a visual observer while flying a RPA after the advanced operations is complete?
@DonJoyce5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. A visual observer is mandatory only when the pilot cannot continuously see the RPAS. Two typical cases would be if the pilot is using full-enclosure FPV goggles or if the drone is flown out of sight of the pilot (eg, behind a building). In all cases, the pilot and VO must be continuous communications.

Regarding reckless flying . Now that my aerobatic Edge 540 has to be registered as an RPAS ,is it considered reckless to do aerobatics with it ?
@DonJoyce Жыл бұрын
That would depend entirely on where and how you do your aerobatics. If you do it right over my shiny head, then yes it would be reckless. Well away from people and air traffic, it would likely be perfectly safe.

Do those who fly 3D planes at MAAC fields now have to get their Advanced pilots certificate if they want to fly within a close proximity to the pilot ?
@DonJoyce Жыл бұрын
@@canadianstarman9123 OK, thanks for that clarification. As you know, with the MAAC exemption currently being no long in effect, you need to comply with TC Part IX regulations, including such things as maximum altitude and proximity to bystanders. Your MAAC club's rules do not give you any extra allowances vs the TC regulations.

So ? You can’t use active trac, on your DJI , while biking , skiing, surfing . Walking ? Just asking. If your by your self ? Ya , NO ! That’s just ridiculous ! Why have the tec if you can’t use it .
@DonJoyce5 жыл бұрын
Hey, Charles, I don't make the rules, but I am trying to make people aware of them. Active trac would be disallowed in any case where you can't immediately re-take control (rule 901.32...biking, skiing, surfing). And you can't be operating a vehicle and piloting (901.37...biking), and of course when the drone police pop out of the bushes to arrest you, you'd be flying near/over people (just kidding on that one...901.26). The rules are very restrictive and were explicitly written to make it easier for commercial operators (SERIOUSLY...it is in writing!!), and secondly for safety.
