Those poor donkeys were not prepared for the game. Just like horses, they need lots of training and need to like the person that will be riding them. Some of the donkeys seemed pretty calm like they knew what they were doing and didn't mind it. But at least like 4 of them seemed really unhappy and utterly clueless. You shouldn't have to yank on the rope if the donkey (or horse) is confident and properly trained.

I feel like it is really loud, some of them get hit, they really don't seem like they want to play or go where they should. I have ridden donkey as a kid, and when it feels good and save, it goes whereever you want it to without strong pulling. It also does not try to throw you off. Giving a little pull as an indication of direction is very different from that here...

Do you not know what Donkey's were used for before vehicles were invented. They didn't call them slave mules for nothing because they CAN hold the weight.. In addition, if you knew anything regarding Donkey's you would realize how stubborn, humble yet stubborn, they are which makes the process of you making them move harder, going up and down a court. Similar to when my family and I used them to plow our garden..which you probably haven't heard of anyone recently doing either. Otherwise, that would probably seem just as, if not more, cruel ..Don't stray too far from history or you just might forget how useful and uncruel some strategies really are. Even Jesus rode a Donkey going into Jerusalem.

When I see a person yank on and kick the animal they're handling, I'm baffled. I've been training farm animals for most of my life-- they're bred to work, and almost all of them will do so happily if they're not punished through the process. But that takes time and patience and close attention. Easier to just ape our way through it.
