More I've analyzed this trade, more I've come around on it and feel it isn't as bad as people make it out to be. They might drop from top 3 seed to top 5 seed short-term, but not play-in like I've seen fans suggest. People act as if Julius Randle is a scrub who shouldn't be in the NBA or he's a Cam Thomas ballhog with tunnel vision. They really forgot his last 3 years and act like it's his first time playing with non-shooting Centers when he's played with them for basically his whole career. It’s a lot closer to a win-win. This video brought more clarity to the trade so good analysis.
@KemzStudiosOriginal3 ай бұрын
Wolves fans are just too emotional to lose Towns, while Knicks fans thinks he’s just another scrub who won’t add anything to their roster. The Knicks definitely get a floor spacing center who could maybe move to the 4 when Robinson comes back. The Wolves get flexibility and depth at SG. This trade benefits both sides….which is how trades are SUPPOSED to work.

Well, if you (and Tim Connelly) are wrong, they can move on from Randle easily. Like you said, the financial lock in with KAT’s max contract was debilitating. Some trade had to happen with KAT. I think it is the timing that was so shocking. If this happened in July I wouldn’t have really been that shocked. But a couple days before the start of camp caught me off guard.

Believe it or not, Randle will help more against Dallas and Boston than KAT. OKC does not have answer for Randle too. He is an all-star scorer with playmaking ability. Moreover, he was hurt in playoffs - that why poor performance. He took Knicks to playoffs multiple times as the first option on offence.

@pinobluevogel64582 ай бұрын
I think you can be perfectly happy that the books work for a longer stretch of time and that KAT, as good as he was to developing the franchise, was a bit of a bad fit next to Gobert anyways. In addition to that, you at least get a very useful and reliable Donte DiVincenzo, who is on an amazingly cheap contract for how good he is. If Randle performs, it is good, if not, the Wolves can just turn him into one or two good roleplayers and have a deep rotation and still look about as good or better than they were before.

At first I was kind of pissed about this trade. But the more I look at it, the more happy I am. KAT absolutely sucked ass in that Dallas series and was a huge reason we lost the way we did. He averaged 6.6 3pt attempts per game that series and made 24% of them… that’s atrocious. YOU’RE 7ft TALL!!! Park your ass in the paint, protect the rim and use your size. He can play decent defense on 4s in the league but gets absolutely torched by almost every other big man in the NBA. He’s only going to struggle to stay healthy the older he gets and he’s not worth $55 million a year. Now we actually have some cap space to build around Ant. I think Knicks fans are going to realize just how soft KAT is pretty early in the season. He’s great when he has another big to bail him out (Gobert and Naz Reid). But when he has to run that 5 by himself, everything falls apart. Everyone saying “yeah but… KAT ran the 5 in Minnesota before Gobert got there.” Yeah… how’d that work out? 😂 If Julius Randle buys into the system, the Wolves are going to be scary good this year. With Dillingham and Divencenzo coming off the bench when Conley and Ant aren’t on the floor… all I’m saying is watch out for the Wolves again this year and watch how fast Knicks fans turn on KAT for being Charmin ultra soft.

People talk about Ant playing with Randle/Gobert spacing but how come they never think of Randle playing with Ant/Jaden/Conley spacing? You can throw Donte and even guys like Naz, NAW, maybe Ingles too in the mix and that spacing all of a sudden looks absolutely amazing. If anything, Randle can play the same way KAT did in the offense, only better because he will actually shoot open 3s and not drive into 2 ppl resulting in a tumble/turnover. He will also be able to play bully ball and play "big" unlike KAT who struggles to post anyone up (including guys like CP3 smh). Yeah and KAT only shot 5.3 threes a game while being the "best shooting big" so I don't think his "spacing" would be missed that much. Not to mention he couldn't even run a simple pick and pop with Ant and refused to take wide open top of the key threes and drove into 2 defenders in the paint. His offensive fouling is also gone from the team as well so the offense overall would be more fluid imo. I guess we can see how things turn out.
@Matheus_Montag3 ай бұрын
Minnesota played so many good games with Kyle Anderson and Gobert as the starting Frontcourt throughout these last 2 years. Although Ant was an amazing playmaker on the Playoffs, he's always got a big number of turnovers. It's not difficult to see Randle bringing the ball on transition and helping Ant to get more opportunities to attack the rim without 2 bigs on the way.
@Base6123 ай бұрын

@Base6123 ай бұрын
@@Matheus_Montag The question I have about Randle is less *if* he could be a good fit, but rather if he is willing to play the roles that might maximize his utility to this team. Finch coached him in NO. He knows Randle's abilities. I am sure that he will get good production out of him. But given Randle has a player option next year I see him wanting to build up his numbers for a new contract, and that this might lead to issues between him and the coaches.

I believe the trade focus on their playoff performance too, especially against Dallas. The lack of secondary on-ball creator makes is really hard to counter Dallas' close-out defense, while Ant is exhausted trying to create shots or find the right man. KAT sure is good at drives, but the shot quality is usually bad and he doesn't have great vision to find the open man. There can hardly be any spaces for off-ball shooters to get in rhythm without another creator. While not sure if Randle is the perfect piece, it definitely worths a try, meanwhile opening up cap space for future adjustments.

Remember how everyone was asking kat to attack the rim …well Randle does that while being a slighty better defender and still can space the floor playing alongside Mitchell rob he can fit with Rudy just fine …Donte is a bucket they can play now without pressuring rob into a role he not ready yet in the playoffs…and yes it cheaper a great trade for both sides
@dabdab85853 ай бұрын
Do you think Randle’s bad playoffs history is just because of injuries and small sample size? Because the Wolves will need him to be good in the playoffs in order to contend

Could you talk about the sixers and the warriors trades... what is it they're hoping for by getting Paul George? Better spacing? perimeter defense? volume scoring? I don't understand.

I love the trade. As much as we all loved Kat, he became a reliability often with his TO's and foul trouble. I love the addition of the two boys from NY quite a bit. We needed another slasher and Randle fills that nicely. Donte will fit perfectly and replaces the shooter we lost in Kat. I think it's a massive upgrade to be honest and it will also open up more minutes for Naz. This is probably the deepest team in the league right now.

We’ll look at this trade similar to that of Hali for Sabonis it works out for both teams all Kat has to do is shoot 3s rebound and defend the paint! Randle adds a entire new dimension to the wolves he has that dawg in him that Kat didn’t have. Not to mention he’s always in the gym his three point shot will improve as we saw last year.
@jeison003 ай бұрын
So is this meant to be taken as you saying Randle is an upgrade over KAT? I have a hard time agreeing if that is what you're trying to say.

Addition of Donte into this trade suggests the Wolves will likely be able to run more small-ball in the playoffs, where Randle/Reid is the 5 and they’re surrounded by a lineup like Conley, Ant, Donte, McDaniels for some great spacing and potential 2-man action with the big as the handler. Also, the rotation looks solid now: Conley/Dillingham, ANT/Donte, McDaniels/NAW, Randle/Ingles, Gobert/Reid. With Donte able to play 1-3 and McDaniels able to play 3-5, the flexibility of this roster is going to be such that they can throw a different look at every team. Add to this the success of Gobert v Jokic in the playoffs (for the most part) and I think the team is more well-rounded with this trade, maybe not better, but they definitely improved on their weaknesses. Ultimately, the trade feels like a team who is throwing away the recent trend of looking for a big 3 and is instead looking to put a great, deep team behind a young, MVP-calibre talent.

Quietly Divencenzo is a steal here. They aren’t resigning towns or Randell. Pick up a good rotation player free up cap room and they’ll get somebody next year.

I definitely think Donte brings more to the Wolves (he always gave me Ginobili vibes and is a solid facilitator as well.) I think he’s a good combo guard who’s big enough to slide to the three a especially on defense (NAW has definitely improved but he’s not as strong as Donte, same could be said with McDaniels strength wise.) He could also be a backup starter when Ant needs some rest.

I kept saying that the wolves should trade for Randle before it even happened. I agree with you, I think Randle is a great fit and towns a good fit. I can’t wait to see Reid and Randle play together. Only downside of the towns is that Knicks want him at center and he can’t guard the big guys in the league 😅

I think this trade was fair for both teams. As a Knicks fan, Randle has done so much for the organization that he will be missed by the loyal Knick fans for his loyalty etc. Losing Donte stung but hopefully we will see him in a Knicks jersey again. I’m exited to see KAT in a Knicks uniform the starting 5 should be awesome to see

He's going to make you want to throw a brick through your TV half the game. He shoots, plays D every couple games, then does some of the dumbest shit you'll see on the court on a nightly basis. The "sometimes he has tunnel visions" statement was an understatement.
@pinobluevogel64582 ай бұрын
Seriously I love this vision of the trade. I think the extreme focus on Randle's non-modern approach to the game blindsided a lot of people that are critical of this trade, or critical on Randle as a player. Why ideally he is a spacer that shoots well from outside of the 3 point line, the reality is that he is not that type of player and if they do not trade him, they simply have to make it work. I've seen the Pelicans struggle with getting enough outside shooting, as players simply are not pulling the trigger often enough and at times some of them can struggle making them. Does this mean the team is bad or can't work? Hell no, they were quite good. Their weakness stemmed more from not having big men that could play fast enough, or offered enough rim protection, in addition to having too many on-ball players instead of having off-ball ones. The playstyle of having good midrange scorers and rim threats might be a bit outdated, but it still works. The only issue I see with Randle, is that he has been inconsistant. As a player that is going to need to provide a reasonable amount of offense on a team that is sorely lacking creation, having 'Bad Randle' for a year could be detrimental, while having 'Good Randle' could be amazing and improve their offense by a lot. Lastly, I think that you are seriously underselling Donte DiVincenzo. In my eyes, he is the best and most easily usable player out of all of these three. The fact that he only makes $12M is baffling, considering he shot at Curry/Dame levels of threepoint shooting at some points last year, when his minutes increased, including being super-efficient and clutch in the playoffs. While his size does limit him somewhat, he is a really tenacious and serviceable defender as well. He does have decent playmaking and is simply a smart player that relocates and cuts well. Add to the fact that he also played 40+ minutes multiple times and still performed, you could say he has some of the best conditioning in the NBA as well. This is your Bruce Brown type of player that you need to win championships. He can do enough to fill any role in a pinch, works hard and has far more impact in those tight playoff situations than you'd expect.

If Ant played Sf and they could actually run Donte at the 2 adding would have been perfect because definitely they are the same if not better on defense and donte is a better for space then kat but i just feel they are going to force ant to take more jump shots and it will result in either his efficiency going down or points going down
