Shaping Seymour to wear his flyveil, while at the same time Systematically Desensitising and Counter Conditioning the flyveil, takes the time it takes for Seymour to be 100% ok with it.
It's not exciting, it's pretty boring, but for me, there's lots of interesting micro behaviour and communication that Seymour is giving me.
Every time I accidentally bring it to him, it sets him back and worries him. I'm trying to position the flyveil so that it matches where he will be looking out of it and where it will sit on his face, which is a bit of a challenge. It often ends up too low, as I'm trying to avoid his ears.
But every time I notice his concern, I'm careful to let him approach it himself and if I think he's really worried or has had enough, I give him a short break.
The change in vision is the most worrying thing for him and then I have to navigate those ears!
But just as he slowly got used to the idea of wearing a halter, with it brushing his face, my arms reaching over, sometimes gently brushing his ears, having to hold his head still, this is not very different, except the change in vision. That means that the slower I go, the more he's getting used to looking out through the flyveil and being counter conditioned to the view, with all the food.
