I love how he says, "Come on!" Despite the fact you are in front if him. Even the game thinks it's impossible and codes his taunt in no matter where you are. I still beat him a few weeks ago and I'd rather play the CC beetle race over this one any day

No, the beetle race is much more preferable to this any day. At least with the beetle race you don't have to do any tricks like here. Also, with this race if you lose more than once you have to reset your game so you can start back with enough coconuts to make it through the race. With the beetle race, you just keep restarting until you beat him. I found this race overall harder too, requiring more attempts.

I love how the game slows Lanky down for this race specifically. The beetle race in Crystal Caves takes skill while this one is the game intentionally trying to screw you over. Edit: They should've started this one the same way the owl course started. Play the instrument to wake the animal and then hop in the barrel to start the challenge.

Yeah, you not only have to let the rabbit win the first time so you can do the barrel trick, but if you fail twice you have to reset the game so you can have enough coconuts to make it through the race with this speed ability. This minigame was really poorly designed and stupid! Whoever designed it hopefully lost their career.

When you do this race remember to jump alot as it can help you catch up This rabbit taught me that. Remember to jump when you are orangsprinting with the beetle as well

Every time I jump I lose the race. I had to only jump over the logs and b line it everywhere else. I'm on an emulator tho so maybe that makes a difference. I know sometimes jumping on the n64 can make things slow lag.

Without that trick, the only way I know of is to hope the Kersplat gets in his way and slows him down. They should've done more testing on this one. X(

When you jump in the barrel as the second race starts, the barrel animation slows you down and you don't enough time to catch up. This whole race would be impossible if we didn't get in the barrel before the race starts.

I know this is late, but I may help people in the future. You get the Orangsprint barrel on the second race, and you can not unlock the Orangsprint from Cranky until the next level after the fungi forest.

I beat him normally. You just have to find cut corners to make shorter routes and your jumps are faster than if you run, so just constantly jump as soon as you get the speed boost from the barrel.

@@jonathanmcneil6902 When you start the race you have to enter the barrel so Lanky becomes faster (Which you need otherwise you can’t beat him). However that also makes the bunny get a huge head start on you. What he did here is that he as soon as the bunny won the race he jumped into the barrel and when he tries again, he’ll start with the speed boost so that he doesn’t have to waste time in the barrel. He basically used a glitch.

Yes. It is possible to beat him without jumping in the barrel to start the race with Lanky in the handstand position. I just did it today. It was very close but all I did was cut the corner hard around where the hippo door is. I got ahead of him by basically jumping straight across the log and beelining it for the finish.

Let me share with you guys how I finally won this race. First of all, I had to cheat A LOT. I play DK 64 on Project 64 with my Playstation 4 controller (I have a program called Rewasd for mapping the keyboard to the controller buttons, so I can happily play Nintendo 64 games while lying in my bed with a wireless controller). The point to it is: just like on Wii U virtual console, on Project 64 you can create restore points at any time by pressing F5 or F7 (can't remember now) and instantly load the previous restore point by pressing F5 or F7. So I mapped F5 and F7 to two different buttons on my controller and started the race. Every time I made a perfect move in the race, I pressed the button to create a restore point, so if I ever made a wrong move afterwards all I had to do was press the button to load the restore point so I could try again without having to start another race. I know that's a lot of cheating, but God knows how many times I tried to beat that damn rabbit. Thing is you have to make perfect moves to win this race... you can't jump too high for that makes you lose speed, you eventually bump into those thick logs in the way, or the enemy blocks your way and slows you down instead of the rabbit... I'm not proud of cheating like that, but I'm glad I got that golden banana. After beating the DK arcade twice and flying through stupid rings with Diddy's hard-to-control jetpack in the owl's challenge, I'd thought I wouldn't see anything harder in that game... Well, I was wrong... Hope that helps if you're also playing on Project 64. Ah, the barrel cheat shown in the video comes in handy, too.

@@crashingblow3753 He is basically saying that he was able to save his progress throughout the entire race due to the more advanced tech with the newer console he played it on. That means if he ever made a mistake, he could just reload the game right before the part of the race he messed up. Imagine playing a chess game and you could redo the move every time the move you made was bad. That's what he did here. You'll just have to beat it the old-fashioned way, but just save when you are maxed on coconuts and then reset it if you lose and are too low on coconuts to try again. That's what I did, and it took me something like 45 minutes (maybe longer) to beat it with numerous retries/resets. My damn thumb was sore too (the N64 joystick sucks).

I have nothing against emulation nor save states, I just try not to rely on them too much if I can avoid it.

Eu cheguei a desconfiar disso. Na minha concepcao nos so conseguiriamos ganhar do coelho se largassemos ja plantando bananeira. E a segunda vez que zero esse jogo. Na primeira vez que zerei 101% so ganhei do coelho na sorte. O kasplat impediu o avanco do coelho com a barriga. Isso deu tempo de o alcancar e passa -lo.
