A remake of the classic arcade game. This is not a rom hack, I coded this from scratch. It's meant to be more difficult than the original game giving players new levels and challenges. I've tried to study the original as close as I can to maintain the same feel, but added new elements. Even though it can be played on your PC, it's meant to be played in people's Windows-based arcade cabinets. It comes with a config program to map out the keys, rotate the screen, set it to free play, and other options. You can download it here: justinbohemier...

Q: Is this a rom or rom hack?
A: No, it's a PC game I created which can only run on Windows. The art and sounds belong to Nintendo.
Q: Why is it so hard?
A: It's meant to be harder than the original for people who want a bigger challenge, like me. If you don't like difficult games then this game isn't for you.
Q: In the original, Mario gets killed when jumping from heights, but this one doesn't. What gives?
A: Since I coded this myself, there are differences from the original. Some are intentional, some are due to laziness. It's meant to feel close to the original, not be an exact copy. I chose not to kill Mario when jumping from heights because, c'mon, he's Mario.
Q: In the original, Mario can fall through the rivet holes, but this one he can't. What gives?
A: Since I chose to not kill Mario when jumping from heights, that means you would be able to go all the way to the top of the rivet stage, fall through the top rivet, and get all the other rivets on your way down. So I decided to not let Mario pass through the holes.
Q: How did you design this?
A: Using an open-sourced programming language called Freebasic, and using the Allegro and Fmod libraries.
Q: How do I get my joystick to work with it?
A: The game doesn't support joysticks, but you can use a joystick-to-keyboard mapper like JoyToKey or Xpadder.
Q: Can this run on Mame?
A: No, Mame is designed to emulate arcade hardware, so since this is a PC game, it would never run on Mame.
Q: Can I run it on my arcade cabinet?
A: Yes, if your cabinet is running Windows. The game comes with a config tool that lets you configure everything for this purpose. If you do put it in your cabinet send me a screenshot.
Q: I found a bug or I have feature requests, how can I contact you?
A: You can send me an email to omnitronstudios@gmail.com
