Yeah, I can't blame Jon TOO much for not noticing because of the pressure of playing but Emile has no excuse XD
@VGManiac456 Жыл бұрын
To answer Jon's question about why the inconsistency on whether getting crushed hurts you or is instant death: there is actually a consistent pattern, albeit it's weird and goes against what most will be familiar with in platformers. The ones that just hurt you operate in an open-to-close-to-open-to-close kind of pattern, so you won't instantly die from those since you'll regain movement once it opens back up. The ones that instantly kill you are ones that don't have that kind of pattern and will never move again after their initial landing/closing, thus preventing you from regaining freedom which translates "instant death."
@GBDupree Жыл бұрын
What do you mean by "goes against what most will be familiar with in Platformers"? That's exactly how it works in most platformers. Its more uncommon to have every squish count as a death, or vice versa, I'm pretty sure. Especially Mario, except for the 3D games which are very inconsistent. Like Whomps always do damage and not instant death, except for like the Galaxy games, but walls crushing you always kill.
@franklinllanes770 Жыл бұрын
I don't have a good memory for Platformers, but I think I remember -old school- platformers in particular for Megaman and Sonic having open-and-close crushers be instant death rather than just hurting you. This would be around SNES era. In fact don't the huge crushers in Mario World do it too? That said, Mario definitely also has cases of letting you un-squish like whomps and thwomps. I'm not experienced enough to say what's the norm in this case.

I think Perilous Passage is my favourite of the K stages in the game. It may just be the masochist in me, but I feel that level is the definition of tough but fair. Every other k level has something that feels like a cheap move to steal a life away, but in Perilous Passage, for me at least, every death felt like it was my fault and it only encouraged me to keep trying and beat it. I also feel like it's the K stage where the theme for the k stages fits the most.
@kevinr.9733 Жыл бұрын
Ah, Perilous Passage. By far the hardest of the K stages, and the level that gave me the most trouble my first time through. Wasn't too bad for me this time, probably because I've since managed to beat it without getting hit, and some of that muscle memory is bound to be useful. (The extra heart from New Mode also helps... a lot.) That first time, though? Yeah, only level in the game that I used Banana Juice for, and that was after several hours of attempts without it. (Fortunately, none of the puzzle pieces are in the candles.) Missed puzzle pieces: 61 (7 new) 6-8 Shortly before the first checkpoint; head left at the junction to reach a ledge with a plant you can pound for the puzzle piece. 6-8 Bonus room to the left of the third spiked swinging block; roll jump from the block to reach it. 6-8 On the left ledge before the end of the level; pound the plant for the puzzle piece. 6-K Hidden in the block on the left before the section with the spiked platforms; roll jump from the last falling platform to make the block retract and grab the puzzle piece. 6-K Hidden in an alcove in the center during the first section with bugs; just walk into the alcove and grab it, -preferably without getting hit.- 6-K Hidden in an alcove on the left during the spring section. 6-K Hidden in an alcove on the right during the spring section.

It’s actually pretty practical to stay in 2 player mode when you play the K Levels. Sure, You lose balloons more quickly, but the only penalty you get for getting a game over is having to restart the entire level from the start instead of from a checkpoint. K Levels have no checkpoints, so there’s no real penalty for gaming over. And you get to have Diddy with you on each attempt! Super useful for levels that don’t give you a DK Barrel at the start. I myself started with Elder Bling last year and fell in love with the series, having being going through the ones I can play on PS4 since then. I don't have much time per day to play, so when a boss starts looking too BS, I just summon people (the Souls community is always up to help out) and fight alongside them. Souls games really aren't that hard, and Elden Ring is by far the easiest (and one of the hardest) of the genre. You get so many tools and abilities to beat it that you can really control how hard you make it.

Worst K stage, period.

This Kong stage sucks. It's probably my least favorite Kong stage in the whole game, and it's all because of those fucking homing mosquitoes. I don't know what Retro was smoking when they came up with them.

I struggled to finish the level because of them.

elden ring takes everything the souls games does well and kinda ruins it, the actual exploration is better than ever, but in turn every single enemy is balanced around forced co op whether that be other players or spirit summons, if you dont use them every boss feels so unbalanced, theyre able to follow up with chain combos that realistically should not be possible in a game with a stamina system, or have attacks that will still hit you even when dodges perfectly, elden ring is a perfect example of the biggest issues with stamina systems, IF MY ACTIONS ARE LIMITED BY A METER WHY CAN EVERY SINGLE BOSS EVEN A BOSS THAT IS A LITERAL CARBON COPY OF THE PLAYER ENDLESSLY SPAM ACTIONS FOR A FULL 10 MINUTES WITHOUT SO MUCH AS AN OPENING TO HEAL. QUITE FRANKLY ID RATHER THEY PUT AN EASY MODE IN THE GAME THAN COMPLETELY RUIN THE ENTIRE COMBAT SYSTEM JUST SO PEOPLE WHO SUCK CAN GET A.I'S TO DO ALL THE WORK FOR THEM the reason why the game is balanced so poorly is because they basically want to FORCE you to use summons and out number the boss, for every thing elden ring does right it does another 2-3 things wrong, It completely ruined the PVE aspect of souls games, and in turn has also ruined the rep for the older souls games, Elden ring is a far cry from even being half as good as the other souls games, even dark souls 2 is balanced better. dark souls bloodborne and sekiro all pride themselves on being a fair challenge, there are exceptions not every boss is god tier and a couple areas are really bad, BUT thats ONE to TWO areas per GAME that are bad, and maybe 2 -3 bosses that could be better, elden ring manages to have multiple poison swamps ans multiple areas that are poorly designed Its like they took the worst of the worst from every souls game and fused them to make one massively overrated game. seriously tho when a game has an entire combat system yet all anyone cares about is the quite flat open world you know you fucked up, Fromsoft just got lucky that their open world happens to have castles and dungeons that take heavy inspiration from dark souls god tier linear leven design. quite frankly elden ring doesnt deserve to put on the same pedistal as any of the other souls like games fromsoft have made. I dont think elden ring is bad despite how vile I've been towards it I actually like it alot, but I cant forgive it for ruining the thing that got me into dark souls to begin with, THE BOSS FIGHTS. elden ring tacks on artificial difficulty where its not needed, and it did not deserve goty with all the mistakes it made. I swaer I lose it whenever elden ring is mentioned but its just slightly worse dark souls in botw hyrule and there are like 3 hyrule castles now job done goty secured
