It would feel inadequate for me to just gloss over the whole suite, so I will take it apart piece by piece and comment on each one, or at least as many as I heard. Rare Logo: Someone finally did an orchestrated version of this. XD An astounding introduction to what is to come, I love it! Donkey Kong Country Theme: Peaceful and unassuming in the beginning, shifting into the typical groove we all know and love. The freaking sax section pulling the melody, didn't expect it but it felt incredibly fitting for this lively piece. And bringing the whole orchestra in for the end provides a nice segue into the next part. Speaking of... Simian Segue: Percussion and the strings driving the rhythm, coupled with the jaunty wind in the melody and harmony, expertly captures the feeling of progress and moving forward toward your final goal. Aquatic Ambience: *Wow.* Just wow. Where to even begin? The atmospheric strings providing a beautiful backdrop for the equally beautiful harp, starting out in A minor as opposed to the original C minor (which I believe gives a completely different feel)...but here I believe is where the wind section really has its moment to shine. From the haunting oboe on melody, supported wonderfully by the bassoon, clarinet and flute, swelling into the latter half of the piece where everything picks up and, no pun intended, _flows_ in a different direction. The second half, now in C minor, pulls the brass and string to the forefront while keeping the wind busy driving the background of the piece. And ending on a resolution into a major chord, were the medley to end here, would have been a splendid ending. But there's still more to come. Mine Cart Madness: Immediately after the percussive crash, the contrabass and cello go to work setting the bass for this fast-paced song. The brass and viola, and even the piano come in next to bring the rhythm, with the violins and more percussion pulling ahead for the suspenseful melody. The buildup to the sudden impact brings to mind the Kongs lifting their cart off the tracks in a great leap, only to clatter back onto the rails as the cart begins to pick up speed. From here the cart ride only builds in intensity, the orchestra moving from one key to another, then one chord to another as the cart is brought up and down, avoiding gaps, overturned mine carts and insidious Krashes. At length all goes quiet, slowly picking up steam and intensity again for the home stretch. Gang-Plank Galleon: The saxophones here do a nice job substituting for the accordion in the original. Coupled with the merry countermelody of the flute in the background, it provides a great representation of a pirate-ship feel. Then, the strings seep in and the wind fades, the percussion slowly climbing until its establishing strike...and the battle begins. The lower strings do a spectacular job keeping the bass line, and as easy as it might have been to use the high strings or the flute, or even the brass, to start off the melody the saxophone NAILS it here. Even after the wind comes in, followed by the brass joining the bass strings, the fight gets stronger and stronger as more and more of the orchestra is added. By the end it's clear that this is the final battle--the Kongs versus King K. Rool--and nobody can say who will emerge victorious. Jungle Hijinxs: And how could a Donkey Kong Country medley be complete without such an iconic piece of music from the series? The epic fast-paced introduction by the percussion beautifully sets the scene, with the strings giving everyone a preview of what's to come. As the piece itself begins it's immediately recognizable, but at the same time the jazzy notes in the strings and piano make it something new. With the brass and wind swelling up to the, again, iconic melody, the swell quickly fades to the jazzy piano and percussion with the saxophones providing melody and harmony--a perfect choice for the piece. Afterward the chorus is repeated with the full orchestra to bring it home, and while the setup for the second half of the song remains, the horns and strings pull us into what sounds like a somber rendition of the Game Over theme. But to lift the mood the saxophone returns, paving the way for the home stretch--the orchestra all on melody for the first half of the main phrase, shifting back into the full orchestral rendition...leading to a sound-off from various sections to bring it all home in the last chord. Overall, this game was a big piece of my childhood and I love the fantastic treatment you've given it here. Bravo, VGOScore, bravo.

I think I've heard something very much like the Aquatic Ambiance section before--did you base that part on the bonus medley that came on the Japanese version of the official soundtrack? Because it sounds almost exactly the same as that song. Great medley regardless. Aquatic Ambiance was my favorite part, but I really liked the Gangplank Galleon section too... far, far too few people do orchestra versions of Gangplank Galleon.

Don’t be afraid of using 8va lines in the violins, treble clef in viola, and tenor clef in bassoon. Trust me, nobody wants to read that high lol

The problem with using 8va lines in the violins is that a note and that same note one octave higher are often played differently on a violin. It isn't like a piano where techniques are transferable between octaves. And nobody wants to do extra work trying to figure out what a note is while sight reading.

A Link Between Games hmm, maybe, but I have never seen written C’s and D’s 6 ledger lines above the staff. Musicians are smart enough to know how the technique transfers no matter the octave they’re in. Violinists really don’t want to count that high, especially since this would most likely be something featured on a pops concert, and something they would sightread to some degree. I’d say an A6 is the cap, although I’ve seen a written B above that before (right now I’m playing Brahms 4 and it has a couple of written B’s). No matter the instrument, people would rather just take a note up an octave that try and count ledger lines.
