It’s sad to think that all it would’ve taken is not first releasing on a system of faulty sales, a price of $40 or even $50 on its port, and some good advertising for the original and the port and this could’ve done so much better! The Wii U proved a struggle to get sales anyways but had Tropical Freeze been backed up in advertising just as much as Returns was, if not more so as it rightfully should have because it’s the bigger, superior title, maybe it would’ve sold closer to what its worth in the efforts put in. They could’ve squeezed out maybe 4 million sales instead of just 2 on the initial system and who knows with such lack of support the Wii U had in great games maybe this would make more people strive to get a Wii U, if done right the Wii U could’ve attained half a million, maybe even up to 1.5 million more sales and in turn the game could’ve gotten as much as 5 million sales on the original release! Then for the Switch, oh they could’ve done so much better! It released on one of the best selling consoles of all time! A lot of people were turned off at them charging more than the original release for a 4 year old game with slightly enhanced graphics and a Funky Mode when it doesn’t even reach the same resolution as on the Wii U when in handheld! If they were to charge even just $10 less at a price of $50 I think the sales would’ve been boosted a lot! Parents would feel more inclined than paying for this big budget game and all those fans who already played wouldn’t feel like it was a total rip-off! So far it’s got 4.5 million sales on the Nintendo Switch. Without even having any additional advertising, maybe just saying in one of the trailers that you don’t have to pay a full-price $60 and can pick it up for a discounted $50 but that’s it, I feel like right now it would be at like maybe 5.5 million copies! Not factoring in paying employees or paying for any rights to anything or even the physical copies these new copies would’ve pulled in 16.66% less profit. But it’s also $270M in sales from before compared to $275M which sure it’s not much more but it’s also just pointing away from company greed and making your fanbase happier! People would feel more inclined to buy the game as in reviews people aren’t pointing out that it’s not worth it since it was $10 cheaper on the Wii U! So maybe you even then get free advertising to squeeze it up to maybe even 6.5 Million sales! But that’s just the price! Mario Kart 8 Deluxe got 62 million units sold so it’s definitely possible for a game to do great! Should they had gone above and beyond with advertising I could’ve seen this game going from 4.5 million units sold on Switch to 7.5, 8, or even 9 million units! And the advertising and the discount price work well together for this game to be a game for the masses, aiming for extreme accessibility to everyone! Or, they could’ve just done something super above and beyond. So it’s clear they don’t want to put in the effort to really improve on Returns and Tropical Freeze. So what if they just pushed back Tropical Freeze’s Nintendo Switch release and just pumped it out with Returns! Returns was $50 on the Wii and then $40 on the 3DS and later was discounted down to $25 on the 3DS! Tropical Freeze was $50 on Wii U and then got out on Nintendo Selects lineup and was available for $20! So what if they just pushed back the Tropical Freeze release. Had it come out in 2019, 2020, or even I think the prime time is 2022! And then it was a $60 bundle of Donkey Kong Country: Returns+Tropical Freeze. No (Nintendo Switch) in the credits, No HD labeling! For the minimal amount of effort going into both this is how it should’ve released. And for people who haven’t played it would be cool as you open up this game and like Bowser’s Fury with 3D World you can choose the left option for Returns and the right for Tropical Freeze! It could look really cool in the select menu like maybe you started in the middle and then after moving the stick you couldn’t go back into the middle. Both sides are a picture of the cover but whilst hovered over the game a song plays from the title and the artwork becomes slightly animated with maybe the kongs like shaking and breathing and DK's tie flowing through the wind and we can see for Returns as an example the meteors or lava balls or whatever in the background crashing down. It would feel so great to just have this menu and maybe they could let you buy each game individually in Digital edition for $40 and even sell cards for them as a voucher in stores and this would just boost sales even more for a parent that can't pay $60! If they played their cards right this bundle could amass somewhat like 10 million(maybe even more)sales for the bundle and then like 1.5 million for Returns because it had a larger player count and like 0.75 million for Tropical Freeze. This could've been so cool but Nintendo doesn't play their release schedule right mixed with corporate greed and so now we get punished for it by overpaying and not getting new games! Like had Tropical Freeze gotten that 5 million sales on Wii U then we would've gotten a new game in 2020 or so and at the close of the Switch when DKCR HD is launching we probably would've gotten this bundle with both games probably even having extra efforts put in and that really sucks on what could've been. But, at least we know Nintendo isn't abandoned DK like Starfox or F-Zero(hopefully, even tho all 3 should be getting a title every 4 years or earlier even if that means a port/remaster/remake)
