I thought it was more like Birdo hating Wario and Waluigi because she thinks of them as ugly. The handful of times Birdo has had a speaking part, she always came off as a kind of superficial character. Kind of stuck-up and convinced she's too good for every man that doesn't catch her eye, but threatened by girls who might be considered prettier or cuter than her, hence why she dislikes Peach and aged-up Tiny. As for Blooper, well, in keeping with this stereotypical stuck-up girl theory I've got, she probably just hates live squids cuz they're slimy, sticky, and slithery, and the ink ruins pretty clothes and stuff.

Yeah, team composition, line up and position HEAVILY relies on chemistry chains. In fact, pro players actually use Miis to keep a chemistry chain going because in Sluggers, having good chemistry allows you to get an item while batting, and the difference between a good chemistry throw and a bad one is very large (a bad throw can not only make you possibly miss the ball entirely, but also is slow enough that you can steal the next base and make it reliably). This is the reason Diddy usually isn't set as Captain because he doesn't link with any Mii, making him nearly impossible to make a good line with. Same for Wario and Waluigi, who have very restricted lines and thus are usually put first and last to take what little advantage they can of using them. Despite being arbitrary, it makes enough of a difference that it's kind of shocking how much attention you have to pay to it.

It's weird how inconsistent the chemistry system is with relationships that have been revealed here and elsewhere. I'll be referring to the chemistry list from _Super Sluggers_ only, since it's the most up-to-date one we have. Toadette is stated in at least one game or manual (I don't remember which) to have an odd friendship with Wario, but that's very much not reflected here. It _would_ make sense for Wario and Toad to be rivals, since Toad took Wario down in _Wario's Woods_ . Birdo and Peach not getting along is also a little strange to me, since Birdo was Peach's decoy at the start of _Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga_ (this is revealed midway through the game), but after this Birdo kinda just goes off and does her own thing. It's also interesting that Peach and Birdo share a chemistry "bridge" in the form of Toadette and Daisy. So even though Peach and Birdo aren't good together _directly_ , they _can_ still good be on the same team. Bowser's bad chemistry list is a whopping 12 entries long. Oddly Baby DK and Baby Daisy are on the list, but DK and Daisy are not. I guess _Mario Parties 5_ through _7_ helped Bowser and DK chill out? No idea what's going with him and Daisy. Dry Bones have bad chemistry with Luigi and Dixie, but also Baby Peach and Baby Daisy. Not Baby Luigi, and not adult Peach or adult Daisy. Weird. Koopa Troopas have no bad chemistry at all with anyone. I guess they really are just doing their jobs in the other games. Give them wings, however, and they gain bad chemistry with just one character - Toadsworth.

It's possible that Birdo and Peach have bad chemistry as some kind of reference to Super Mario Bros. 2, although it would be odd to single her out and not include Mario, Luigi or Toad in that. Also, Dixie Kong's negative chemistry with Dry Bones is due to Challenge Mode - Dark Bones holds Dixie Kong captive and you have to rescue her by beating it in a mission. It's also why Daisy has bad chemistry with Hammer Bro., because he turned her into a statue in Challenge Mode.

Toadette's modern depiction also makes her the Mario series equivalent to Warioware Wario, so perhaps the two share a similar relationship to hostile capitalists: they share ethics, which makes them allies in a room debating ethics, but also they knowingly predate on the same psychology, so they know only one of them can succeed in the shark-eat-shark world of business.

Baby Luigi might be because he hasn't developed a specific dislike for the undead yet, he just hates boo right now because they pull pranks on him, since they like picking on crybabies. The princesses maybe just realized over time that the dry bones are basically cursed to be like that, so they aren't upset about them taking roaming castles? Idk it's the best I can come up with. Also with Bowser, it's probably just that all the babies hate him because of his appearance in Yoshi's Island DS, but the adults have all moved on/forgotten that and hate him for the things he does right now instead, which DK and Daisy don't particularly care about.

Bingo, that's more or less it. Has to do with cultural standards than anything. Birdo's also much older than Peach (think like Snooty villagers in Animal Crossing, she's a middle aged woman) and in Japan, being a middle aged woman is practically a death sentence in entertainment industry. (not so much in the West though), so how you see Birdo really depends on what side of the globe you're on.

Toadette actually has a pretty strong reasoning for her poor relationships with Bowser and Wario specifically. She's actually gone on record to be against unionized workers. I'm not joking. This makes their negative relationships make sense, because while both Bowser and Wario aren't exactly nice, they treat their workers well. Bowser can be mean, but does rescue and give his minions 2nd chances even after betrayal. Wario's genuine friends with all of the employees of his microgames company. So there is a reasonable canon explanation for their hatred of each other

King Boo and Petey Piranha having chemistry with each other appears to reference how they were partners in Mario Kart Double Dash (You forgot to mention that) and it is also likely because they are both the rulers of their kind, Boos for King Boo and Piranha Plants for Petey Piranha (Mario Party Superstars confirms this) them being partners in Mario Kart Double Dash is also referenced in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe where Petey Piranha is King Boo’s rival and King Boo is Petey Piranha’s rival. That is especially notable because initially for 5 years before Petey Piranha was added in the Booster Course Pass, King Boo was one of only 4 characters without rivals (with the other 3 being Lakitu, Link, and Mii) making King Boo the only character to have a DLC character as a rival. (On a quick note I am pretty sure King K Rool and King Boo were only given chemistry with each other because they both have “King” in their names and are the only characters in Mario Super Sluggers to have “King” in their names as well)

If we're bringing up Japanese names, then I would like to point out that Bowser's name in the Japanese version is just King Koopa. So, he is another character with "King" in his name.

Additionally the name Bowser has been occasionally been referenced in the Japanese versions of Mario games such as Mario Kart Wii where the Flame Runner is called the Super Bowser in Japanese. Which is proof that his full name in all versions of the Mario games is Bowser Koopa.

This is probably just a HUGE stretch, but In DKC2, the first game Dixie appears in, there’s an enemy that appears in one level called “Kackle”, who is a skeletal Kremling. You know who else is a skeletal Reptile? Dry Bones. VERY huge stretch, but plus, Kackle is also a ghost, but it’s still neat to theorize.

Rool's negative chemistry, the former has a consistent character trait of teaming up with his lifelong nemesis should a more dangerous villain appear while the latter is more psychotic and relentlessly tortures the Kongs. Remember, even villain characters have moral standards. King Boo & K. Rool having positive chemistry makes sense when you see the former's monstrous and psychotic actions in the Luigi's Mansion games.

I always thought the reasoning for Diddy Kong and Goomba is that they're both frequently underestimated and written off by those around them as weaker versions of other options. Even if Diddy did manage to prove he's more than just DK's sidekick by the end of DKC2, he and Goomba probably still see each other as kindred spirits. Heck, the Goombas probably see him as an inspiration for proving the naysayers (mostly Cranky) wrong and becoming a hero

In my opinion, "bad chemistry" could very well be a one-sided dislike sometimes. The characters disliking one another back might be a limitation of the system. See: Bowser and Peach. Obviously, Bowser doesn't hate Princess Peach, but the princess hasn't forgotten all the crap she'd had to put up with, so she doesn't like him. As for Birdo here's my two cents on the matter: Birdo dislikes Wario and Waluigi because she finds them ugly. She dislike Peach and Tiny Kong because she's _jealous_ of them, all pretty and dainty. Finally, she might hate Bloopers because she's disgusted by squids. It doesn't have to be a clear cut reference, it could just be a general vibe. Dixie Kong is scared of skeletons, so she doesn't like Dry Bones. Donkey Kong is fine with jungle carnivorous plants, so Petey is A-OK in his book.

Ok this one is really niche and you have least to watch the game to maybe connect the dots, but this is the theory I come up for the relationship between Toadette and Waluigi. But both are musical enthusiasts and both can be found in the Game Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix. Both characters can be found in that games, Toadette as an stubborn toad even if the world end and Waluigi as the great vilain of the game, so maybe they don't really appreciate each other since this game.

Bowser and K Rool not getting along ia kind of funny. I guess the main issue here is they are both so used to being in charge neither one can stand to be with someone who will give them orders. But King Boo and K Rool are chill, maybe K Rool and King Boo fancy themselves as more cerebral and sophisticated royals and K Rool sees Bowser as a borish brute who isn't regal enough to be a king on his level. It could also be that they see each other as a threat since they both rule over reptiles and could aspire to rule each other's subjects and land.

One thing I thought of about the rivalry between Peach and Birdo is because Peach was one of the “heroes” in Super Mario 2 that actually fought against Wart’s goons, including Birdo, herself. As for the rivalry between Bowser and King K. Rool is…”There can only be one king!” King Boo doesn’t seem to mind K. Rool simply because they never fought. Sure, King Boo might be another underling of Bowser, but he’s never been in K. Rool’s way.

I like Wario and Waluigi’s respective friendships with Boo and Magikoopa. •Boo is often used for stealing (steals items in Mario Kart and steals coins/stars in Mario Party), so a greedy treasure hunter like Wario would love to have him on his side. •Magikoopa has plenty of magic tricks that a sneaky cheater like Waluigi would love to get away with using in an otherwise fair game.

I dunno, I don’t think the chemistry is a like/dislike chart but a “who can work best in teams with who” chart. Naturally obviously some that don’t like each other don’t work well in teams, but others in this list make little to no sense, both in the GC and Wii games, like Peach having bad chemistry with Petey in the original, and then Petey even being on her team on Wii and having no negative chemistry. I mainly say this because I don’t think characters like Bowser and K. Rool hate each other lol, they probs just can’t work well together but I like to HC them as “enemy of my enemy is my friend” type beat lol

Birdo’s Chemistry Daisy- Birdo and Daisy actually have a good friendship as seen in Mario tennis 64 and fortune Street. Toadette- Both first playable appearance was Mario kart double dash, in which they were introduced as the female counterparts of toad and yoshi Peach- Stems from envy in super Mario advance and in saga where her voice was stolen and birdo often talks about being treated like a princess. Tiny Kong- In this game, one of birdos flaws is being able to hit curves, and tiny Kong was one of the best curves in the game. Petey- both bosses in M&L and both have unassigned genders in some countries. Ngl birdo has one of the best chemistry sets, she links the good guys to the bad guys.

I have theories, for example Bowser and K Rool (Which makes piting them against each other in Ultimate even better), Bowser normally doesn't get along with other villians in the Mario Universe and especially outside the Mario Universe not even his baby self or paper self(Only gets along with Eggman in the Olympic games) and let's face it K Rool is 2nd best to Bowser in terms of fame and power so there is beef there. However King Boo and K Rool makes sense cause King Boo is also a secondary main villian at this point like K Rool, besides Luigi and DK spend more time taking on Bowser in spin-offs and party games then their own villians. Birdo is the most random but I think with Wario it stems from Wario Woods and the fact Wario is gross and messy, Birdo and Waluigi is collateral from the former plus Waluigi's bad attitude. Birdo and Blooper cause Blooper inks a lot and is messy. Birdo and Peach for similar reasons to Bowser and K Rool, Birdo is a secondary female star compared to Peach(In Fortune Street they really go at each other like a High School Roast Session lol) and Birdo is cool with Daisy and Toadette because they were in the same position at the time. I think this could also explain Dixie and Tiny VS Birdo to a degree because Dixie has starred in her own game technically, DKC 3 Dixie's Double Trouble, and Tiny was the main female lead in DK 64 but I think its more of their personalities would clash where Birdo is more diva and bougie, Dixie and Tiny are more wild, outdoorsie, and not afraid to get dirty. I think things like Diddy and Goomba or Wario, Waluigi, Boo, and Magikoopa was the convience that they were on the same default team in Superstar Baseball but Wario and Waluigi have been seen chilling with Boo in Mario Party cutscenes, also it makes the Subspace scene of DK and Diddy owning the Koopas and Goombas more ironic considering they were on the same baseball team lol. Mario and Luigi probably don't have as bad of a relationship the Koopas and Goombas because they have met and made friends with some of them in the RPG and party games whereas Toads and Koopas have mainly been enemies Mushroom VS Koopa Kingdom for much long and for the Goombas the fact they left the mushroom kingdom to join the Koopa Kingdom. DK and Petey because they both literally hit the ball with their hand/appendage and Birdo and Petey probably do to the fact they use their mouths a lot for attacking and throwing lol. Some of these I got nothing such as Pianta and Noki's beef with Hammer Bro and Goomba or Dixie and Dry Bones( I would have assumed Diddy and DK would have beef with Dry Bones after what went down on Mario Party DS). Also I thought Wario and Toadette had a secret friendship in one of the Mario Parties. My favorite is Bowser VS K Rool, K Rool and King Boo's friendship wish nintendo would visit that again, Birdo's bizarre lineup of enemies as well as Birdo beeing a mediator between the Yoshis and Shy Guys beef, Toads vs Koopas and Goombas, Dixie and Tiny VS Birdo, and Birdo VS Peach(Especially how it continued into Fortune Street)
