I don't suppose she needed to, since she leaped clean and golden out of the chest, lol. And there are so many myths about Medieval times (though this fantasy world is set later) and absolute filthiness is one of them. In Medieval times, everyone, from a Duke to a Peasant, knew it was both healthy and good manners to wash your hands, including before and after eating. They also knew a lot more about food safety than we would expect. The issue was they didn't know how to clean those hands at the microbial level the way we know how to today (though even today, we often ignore that, based on how much education around hand washing we needed in 2020)

She called it cake but it was literally dough instead of batter.

It might have translated weird, i know in spanish my mexican inlaws say Pan for cake and it literally just means bread, might be similar for french? where its very broad and you have too speak the language too assume oh shes talking about cake and not bread or dough. in english we have different words for these things but in other languages their not as specific i guess you can say, but im not really sure, maybe that is the case :o? who knows lol im not french

In French "cake" means something that's a bit more bread like, and that has butter and sugar, more like a brioche, and may be sweet or savoury. A cake is gâteau in French

It's a kind of pound cake, even though the proportions are a bit light on sugar/honey. It's certainly not French bread if there's milk, eggs, honey and butter in it. There is no distinction between dough and batter in French, both are "pâte".

It looks like she puts the dress on over her rags, but she's still at the cookbook. Is the dress instead supposed to be an Enchanted double?

The fact she's wearing the fancy yellow dress while baking irks me to the core. That dress looks too fancy and meticulous to bake a cake in, and if the eggs or flour got into it and ruining it dress got my seamstress heart firing with anger
