Donna Strickland, Nobel Prize winner, speaks to crowd at University of Waterloo

Donna Strickland was awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize for physics on Tuesday. The University of Waterloo associate professor took questions and dispensed advice during a media availability at the school Tuesday afternoon.

Many of the early nobel laureates were never professors. They achieved professorship status after their prizes. The last woman to win nobel prize in physics before her never had a decent paid job. This means that all the "professorship" titles given in universities are a total BS. It signifies career progression and not necessarily genuis status. Any fool can be called a professor. It doesn't make them a genius.

I thin it is shameful that her University was not able to recognize her and award her professorship instead of keeping her associate professor. If I were that president I would be ashamed. Fortunately other scientist recognized her studies and nominated her for NP.
