It's too bad that Dolly and Donna never performed this song together. imagine how great that could have been.

The Donna I wished the world knew. The Donna that tithed ,ten percent of her earnings. In all that she earned ,she remembered God first . Check with Apostle Fred Price in Los Angeles, Bethel Church in Nashville and so many charities ,orphanages, homes unwed mothers and the thousands of cots and beds for the homeless.Let’s talk about the hundreds of sandwiches Donna and her staff would also make for the homeless. The charities that she supported ,the rent’s she paid and the list goes on , on.But Donna would always say “ My record is on high "

She also gave a lot of money to various AIDS Organizations (including Elton John's organization, with whom she was good friends with), Homeless Teens in Hollywood w/Church On the Way and Pastor Jack Hayford - a benefit to raise money that I attended one year at Church On the Way where Donna performed, sang a number of gospel songs, but only one of her hit songs for Mother's Day (Hard for the Money). I worked with Donna on 3 projects, and I also met pastor Jack Hayford (who I liked very much, and his church had a lot of amazing talented people in it) and I met Fred Price (who I did not like at all, was not impressed, he was not a kind man, and my Boss and I had to go out of our way to help his daughter when he would not. He was the pastor that Donna's sister called to the house to remind Donna where she came from, but she did not stay at his church very long. Fred Price told his congregation one year that he wanted a Red convertible Rolls Royce with white interior for Christmas and that he felt he deserved it. His congregation bought him that car. When I met him, he sat in our office with his briefcase open as he used an electric adding machine for well over an hour. I avoided him. My heart went out to his daughter when she called asking for help. We helped her, charged her nothing. My boss me to tell her to tell her Dad to consider it a donation. lol. Donna never forgot her church in Boston, and continued to send money to them. They said Donna never forgot them. That church was shown in her TV special way back in 1979. But, the thing about giving, which Donna understood, is that you give privately, in secret. Matt. 6:1-4. The world doesn't need to know what Donna gave, it is only important that the Lord knows. What is important to know about Donna Summer is that she was a woman who loved the Lord, and that part of her faith was to love EVERYONE, not just those who believed the same as she did, not just those who call themselves Christians, but she loved EVERYONE and she spoke unkindly about no one. She loved all of her fans, she loved everyone. She even loved and prayed for her enemies. She had gay friends from when she was a little girl until the day she died. She personally told me that she had worked with and knew a lot of gay men who died, and that they were some of the most beautiful people she had ever known - really beatuiful, inside and out. One day I worked with her, she came in as I stood there waiting to greet her, and she hugged me and kissed me on the lips (like a Mother) and went inside. Her assistant came in right after her, who I stopped and asked, "What's wrong?" I could tell the second I saw her that something was wrong. Her assistant told me they just came from Paul Jabara's house. Paul Jabara was her gay best friend in her Casablanca Records and Filmworks days in Los Angeles. He was in Hair (in the U.S.) and she was in Hair in Germany, and they were both in "Thank God It's Friday", and he wrote the song Last Dance for her. She told me that Last Dance was her favorite song out of all of her songs because when she sings it, she feels close to Paul. When she went to Paul Jabara's house that day, she went because Paul was dying. They entered the house, Donna's assistant sat on the couch in the living room and waited for Donna, who went into his bedroom, shut the door behind her, and remained there with him, alone, for over an hour. When she came out, her assistant said she could tell Donna had been crying, but she told me not to worry, that once Donna gets ready in the dressing room, that whens he comes out, you will see she is okay. Just be yourself. I didn't ask Donna about seeing Paul that day, because I saw it and felt it when she walked in the room. Donna lived her religion by NOT judging others, as Jesus taught. She believed that she was commanded to love everyone, as Jesus taught. Jesus gave no exceptions when he said, Love One Another, Even As I Have Loved You, and Love They Neighbor As Thyself. And, who are our neighbors? EVERYONE. She wouldn't say anything unkind about anyone and she wouldn't allow anyone to say anything unkind around her, no gossip! She would counter a negative by saying something nice, and if that didn't work, she would change the subject. If that didn't work, she would excuse herself. She was loving and kind, and she really loved to laugh. She was hilariously funny. She would laugh and make jokes and be silly, even when she was working. She was a very special human being and the world is a little less bright without her in it. I miss her every day of my life, because she had been so incredibly kind to me, and helped me through a very difficult time and shared something personal with me at the time to help me. I swore to her I would never tell anyone. And I kept my promise. But, now that she is gone, that secret is out because her daughters chose to reveal it and talk about it (and I am sure her husband, Bruce, gave his permission for them to talk about it). That secret was that she had been molested when she was a girl. Not by a relative or a neighbor, but by her pastor. It makes sense how she became known for being a strong woman who could express herself in such sensual terms and be seen as empowering women, or taking control sexually. But, even through all of that, she never abandoned her beliefs, but she went on a different path for a while which made her the strong and faithful woman she became. I think her UNCONDITIONAL LOVE she had for ALL people, and that her friends were many and they came from various backgrounds and were of verious sexual orientations. She performed at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan and there were a bunch of drag queens dressed as Donna Summer from various eras and they jumped up and danced near the stage and Donna got a kick out them, she loved it, and enjoyed their humour. She loved everyone, without judgment - as long as you were a kind person, that was good enough for her. And, she especially loved people who could make her laugh. I said something funny to her, and she laughed, but then she got up and as she was walking away, she paused and said something in my ear, and then turned on her heels and triumphantly walked away, looking over her shoulder at me to see my reaction. I had turned bright red with shock and embarrassment, and laughing hysterically, which is what she intended. When she walked away, she did so as though she had just won a prize. It was funny, but I won't tell what she said to me because, out of context, it is easily misunderstood and UI would never do that to her. She was the BEST. She was my friend, my Mother, my Fairy Godmother, and I won't be sad when it's my time to leave this life, because I know I will get to hear her sing in person once again -- not her hits from this life, but whatever it is she sings now... Her voice was so powerful when she was here, but now, her voice can bend the universe. There was a time when Donna and I were left alone in a room together, and she started to sing. At that moment, she went from being a client to DONNA SUMMER, the Legend, my favorite singer, and my jaw dropped open. She looked over at me and said, "What? Don't you know this song?" And I said, YES. Please, keep singing. And she did... She sang the song DREAMS (by Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks) to me. If it is quiet, I can close my eyes and still hear her singing it to me. There was a lot more to Donna Summer than most people know, but I want them to know how loving, non-judgmental, kind, and funny she was... in addition to her great talents.

I recently found out this was aired on Mar 24, 1983; but was taped in early 80's. My guess is 2nd half of 1981. She gave birth to Brooklyn in Jan 1981 and recorded the Quincy Jones album, made the videos, and had Amanda by August of 1982. That album took 6 months. She was 8 months pregnant with Amanda when she shot the 2 videos for Finger on the Trigger and Woman In Me. That pretty much eats up 1982. She married Bruce in July 1980. IF it's late 1980, she's pregnant; If it's 1981, she's going to be again soon; and it's in-between pregnancies.

love all three artists who have sang this great tune, but have to disagree with the post just above and cast my vote for Dolly Parton singing this tune the best.
