Good afternoon Donn. It’s always satisfying watching you fabricate your own tools. We get to remember back when the possibility was our own and wonder what happened that we never continued in the machinists trade. It’s good to see folks who continued as you are doing. Best wishes for you and your family family and for a happy life. Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋

It seems that popular career choices often don't include manual labour these days. I, too, went on to study IT some odd 15 years ago, switched to wood science instead after first semester, but ended up in the steel industry / fabrication business. But as I look back, these were my own choices and I'm happy where I am in life at the moment. So thank you for the good wishes and thanks for being part of this journey, Fred.👍

The industrial sink has definitely "seen some stuff" you're right; well everything except a Brillo pad and a cleaning agent. 😄 Great video Donn. [13:17] I don't know if it would weaken the die and the holder too much, but drilling a small hole through both pieces on the top, and tapping to add a small reservoir for cutting oil would be convenient, and allow for a steady flow of whatever cutting oil you choose. Modifying the mounting bolt might make a good reservoir.

I think the largest I have is well over 1.25 inches Morse taper. I would have to go out and check the size. I have a kit from 1/2 to 1" with 1/2 shank. I also have a fair collection of Morse taper drills from number 1 to number 4. Most drill presses are number 2 Morse taper.

@@kameljoe21 I have no idea what a Morse taper is but I’m sure it’s important, I’ve just got a dewalt drill and a 30 + pice dewalt drill bit set and maybe some reamers if I’m going fancy but I’ll definitely check a Morse taper out, thanks...

@kameljoe21 2 жыл бұрын
@@garageguy5174 When you go back to the part of the video where he pulls out that big drill at about 3:20 you will see the big drill the shaft and a tab looking thing. The shaft and tab looking thing is called a Morse taper. I think this might be a number 5 maybe. They size them from 1 ( smallest ) to massive numbers. The taper/ waffle cone shape is desgined to fit in to you tail stock ( lathe ) drill press or milling machine. The taper is what locks your drill chuck in place. If you have ever used a drill press or have one at home, if you pull down on the down feed handle you will see a slot on the spindle which will expose the top of the Morse taper of the chuck. A pie shape key is used to slide in there and tap a hammer on it to remove the taper. This way you can swap chucks out or add in Morse tapers drills.
