I met him once in a barbershop. He was just as funny in person as on TV. He wasn’t acting…what you saw on TV was the real guy. I didn’t even know who it was that came in and dapped everybody sitting and waiting for a haircut. He treated us all like he knew us….there was no Hollywood attitude going on. He was genuinely a nice guy.

charlie had a friend that lived on the same block as me and he would cøme over to his friends house on occasions, my dad talked to him one time and said he was a nice dude, my dad didnt know i was a fan of him till i told him a couple years after he died, im upset he would be 2-3 houses down from me on occasions and i never knew 😭😭😭

I remember not wanting to go to a Charlie Murphy stand up because I thought it wouldn’t be all that funny. My wife talked me into it and dude looked rough but it was the funniest stand ups I’ve seen live. Not at all like I thought it was gonna be. Didn’t even talk about the chapelle show or his brother or anything. I’ll never forget that night as he was done he came around and talked to everyone!!! Such a cool dude. He passed away shortly after that :( So glad I went and seen it

I never got to meet Charlie, but I worked at a summer camp where his son went. His son (Xavier) was the only kid that we let sit with us dumb camp counselors during meals. He was the funniest damn kid we had all ever met and one of, if not the most respectful kids at the entire camp. He said the funniest random shit that was so out of the blue. Clearly Charlie was a great person and a great father. RIP.

We've all seen plenty of celebrity passings over the last decade, but I remember Charlie's vividly. I was in a meeting at work at a notification popped up on a buddy's phone. He didn't say one word, just turned to me with a ghost white face and showed me the screen. I couldn't believe it. If anyone out there wants to know more of Charlie's story, definitely pick up his book "Making of a Stand-Up Guy". Rest in peace, Charlie. We miss you.

One of my biggest regrets is not getting to see Charlie Murphy. I teared up when I heard he passed and that is not something I do for just anyone. I always thought he would be a cool guy to meet and he seemed to be really grounded and genuine. Not many people could do and see the things he did and stay grounded.
