I love the design. To my ears it does sound very cheap and like a simple 100 USD keyboard. imo is not worth it

The sound is indeed a let down, even for a budget instrument 😞. Samples decay too quickly for a start, making it cumbersome or impossible to play slower pieces. Note however one can always use the internal sound for faster pieces or for practicing, and use the Donner as a controller for higher quality sound sources when required. Still, a shame that the sound isn't on par with the (stellar!) aesthetics 😕

To be honest, I bought Donner DDP-80 for 3 reasons: 1) it only does piano and only one tone, i.e. it is like a traditional piano and the kids can’t mess with the settings and instead practice and learn piano itself;🥳 2) the looks, it was the one that goes best with my furniture, and as it doesn’t have a dedicated room or even wall in a small NYC apartment, it looks great, mid-century style and not heavy looking as stylish legs and lovely cherry colour wood (legs metal with wood effect but it works; 3) it is electric, so you can plug headphones in unlike a traditional piano, again good for open plan living area and apartments. Nevertheless I would recommend this for any space.🥰 All in all an excellent piano for the price. I wonder what one double the price would be like, but kept coming back to this for the style, the look, the piano feel and real piano-ness of it. Exactly what I was looking for and the small kids can’t do anything apart from play the piano with it!💞

Thanks for the review. Looks like an ideal first home piano. Donner should follow through with a deluxe model, with more real wood, and about four piano sounds, all better than this one - or maybe with better speakers. I understand the rationale behind not having too many distracting sounds on a family piano - but a small selection of piano tones is appropriate on a deluxe model. Also, the back should be prettier, so this piano can look just as good in the middle of a room. I don't think it would look imposing enough on stage or even in a hotel lobby. It's pretty, but it looks rather like a toy made by a clever carpenter, and not like a professional instrument. And stage pianos need more functionality anyway. Instead of trying to hide the leads, and failing, the leads should be made into a feature. I've mentioned some things that could be improved, particularly on a deluxe model, but I'm impressed by Donner's innovation. Like I said, this is an ideal first piano, for the whole family.

Hi Mike, agreed, this is not intended to compete with stage pianos. I'm trying to make that clear in review where it stands in this price range. The words "better" and "more" come with a price aren't they ?

A deluxe version would be great. I'd be willing to spend slightly more on refinements. Would be nice if the pedal housing had a wood finish because it looks pretty cheap and sticks out like a sore thumb. A leg for the pedals could hide the cable.

I am so curious about the Donner. How do you record with this piano? It seems to have only one line out. It is stereo or mono?

Hi Hamid, the audio aux is stereo indeed. All you need is 1/4 inch stereo jack to 2 1/4 inch mono jack cable. Hope that helps.
