Donnerhall - Legendary oldenburg stallion (Damon Hill, Digby, Donnperignon)

Donnerhall (1981-2002) had a successful career in the dressage sport. He finished 3rd at the 1994 World Championships at The Hague and won team gold.
He will be remembered for the quality of his offsprings. He was ranked 1st of the WBFSH rankings in 2007 and was 2nd in 2009. You can find Donnerhall in the pedigree of Don Schufro, De Niro and many others.
12 years after his death, he still had direct offsprings representing him at WEG 2014. They were Damon Hill, Digby and Donnperignon. At the 2012 London Olympics, the whole silver medal german team was made up of Donnerhall's progenies. The horses were Damon Hill, Desperados (xDe Niro) and Diva Royal (xDon Frederico)
This video was probably shot in 1998, the year that Donnerhall retired. Karin Rehbein rides the horse.

I'm just not impressed by this. Maybe I'm ignorant but to me the horse's back looks hollow and I feel like she just needs to give a bit with her hands and that the horse isn't really in self carriage. Maybe I dont know enough

I think that is mostly a rider fault. Even so he is showing much more extension in the hind end than what we commonly see in the ring today. But yes his back definitely doesn't seem to flow with the rest of him.

This is Donnerhall’s legate: one can seat anyway, no matter what you do, the horse makes it. He gets a sour back, like in this video, but he makes it. Rehbein could never ride other horses succesfully, because she has not stability in her lower back and abdominals.

Gorgeous horse, obviously very athletic. I see signs of tension and poor handling. His poll is not the highest point, occasional opening of the mouth and tail thrashing, his toes flick in the extended trot meaning his back is tense, and in the piaffe his front fore and right hind are not in unison, losing the rhythm of the move.

+Steffi Pach Anlehnung ist doch vorhanden! Ich weiss gar nicht wo Du Deine Augen hast! Und sogar meistens noch VOR der Senkrechten! Davon träumen heute manche Leute!! Schau und kommentiere lieber mal diejenigen die nur die Rollkur einsetzen wie die von Grunsven oder den Gal!! Da bist Du richtig!!

+Steffi Pache wenn man zwischen Anlehnung und Rollkur nicht unterscheiden kann sollte man es lassen. Das ist korrekte Anlehnung da könnten sich einige Dressurreiter heute noch eine Scheibe von abschneiden und den straken Trab sollten sich auch mal so einige angucken!

Steffi Pache Anlehnung durch den Körper hat er keine, aber Donnerhall war ein Büffel. Hält alles durch. Sein Rücken in diesem Video müsste aus Beton sein. So verspannt. Man merkt es bei der Piaffe, er will sich anlehnen und die schlechte Reiterin lässt ihm nicht und er hebt den Kopf, und sie gibt ihm einen Ruck mit der Hand. Ein anderes Pferd konnte sie nicht reiten. Besser gesagt, ein anderes Pferd hat sich von ihr so nicht reiten lassen.

scotch-B Ja da pflichte ich dir bei: Büffel. War ja auch aus alter hannoverscher Linie und die mütterliche Großmutter bereits ein Alt-Oldenburger. Du hast Recht; die Reiterin wackelt da echt oben rum, ganz zu schweigen vom Umgang mit dem Zügel. Stört ihn nur im Maul. Find phasenweise sieht auch seine Hinterhand sehr langsam aus und Taktfehler macht er auch. 😟
