Though I think this is an overpay, the faceoff circle is indeed an underrated part of this deal. He definitely gives us more lineup flexibility as well. We can run three good centers or move Petey to the wing, or back up with the Lotto line when we need an offensive boost. Lots of options now.

A right handed Dman that was among the OHL scoring leaders is absolutely a top prospect. If had put up these numbers last year he would have been a legit first round pick. As for not making the junior team for the US, you need to be aware of the politics at play. As a guy that left the USNTDP for the CHL, he was persona non grata.

I was on the fence myself, it was actually an unrelated article I was reading this morning that changed my mind. That being, Allvin was talking about how much more players were interested to sign as free agents with the Canucks to play for Tocchet. If you can reliable sign depth pieces in free agency because your organization has a reputation, you can very much afford to sell some prospect depth. Good trade.

Donnie made a great point about the Canucks not losing a playoff roster player when they parted with Kuzmenko. Unfortunately for Kuz, he has been a defensive liability this year for the team, and really would not be given much ice time come playoff time, if at all. So while I do hope to see Kuz rebound and re-discover his confidence in Calgary, he is not a fit for the current plan of the Canucks. The team is clearly going for it now, so it is a worthy gamble to make. I am glad the team did not take the bait on Chris Tanev. As much I as respect the fearless style he plays, I think his lack of foot speed and his injury history together make him not a worthwhile trade target, especially if the Flames are asking for a first rounder for his service. I do think the Canucks may need one more piece at the back end, but with the current group playing the way it has been playing all year, this player would be more to add security and maybe give a slight upgrade to a Juulsen, Cole, or Myers. Definitely not worth a high draft pick or a strong prospect to obtain.

@christhornycroft36869 ай бұрын
Short term, we'll see if it was worth it after the playoffs. Lindholm is a UFA at the end of this season and will want money and term. Long term, giving up a 1st for a potential rental is rough, and who knows what the other 2 prospects and the potential 4th will be. I guess it's a passable trade, but this is exactly what got Benning in trouble - depleting the prospect pool and trading away picks, high end ones, like the Canucks were the Colorado Rockies. I'd love to be wrong, but now the Canucks have to prove it on the ice - not just in the regular season, but in the playoffs. The problem with these types of trades is that if you win a championship, nobody cares what you gave up to do it. But if you don't, you've left yourself with nothing going forward except a bunch of unmovable, overpaid, older players who aren't producing like they used to. Resigning Lindholm, who appears to already be on the decline, to a long term contract could be a worse move than letting him go for nothing. But we'll see. We thought a certain winger from Dallas would be good for the Sedins. That didn't work either.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think Allvin would have paid so high a price without some assurance from the player/agent that there was some sort of understanding ballpark for price & term. Unless I’m much mistaken the Canucks aren’t accruing any cap space because they’re using LTIR to remain under the cap now, and have been all season. Without further trades the space they have now (~$1.86m) is the exact same space they’ll have at the deadline. Tanev has a $4.5m cap hit, and effectively for the Canucks that remains the case even as the season goes on. If we want him to come back we have to ship out nearly $3m of contracts one way or another. [apologies if you’re fully aware of this already but I get that not everyone will be fully up on the bewildering world of cap management!]

The reason he didn't make the WJ team is more because of Team USA politics. He left the USNDT because he was lowered on their lineup after an injury and wouldn't get to play much. Kuzmenko may find himself pleasantly surprised by his new digs. He will be depended upon a lot more for offense and with a different coach, might even thrive. The scoring depth in Calgary is so much less than what Vancouver has, so this is his chance to shine. Lindholm, on the other hand, needs to be on a better team to thrive. And being a right shot center (Canucks have missed Brandon Sutter for that one reason), this makes the Canucks top six better for sure. It's my understanding that Lindholm is a faceoff ace.. It'll take a bit of time to see who truly wins this deal. Lots of moving parts heading to Calgary.. It'll be up to them what they do with them.
