Ray is completely right about Myers - the crosschecking gets called very inconsistenty, but as Ray said, you simply can't take the chance he took in a 1 goal game. You have to adjust to the inconsistency. Demko was good, but still isn't 100%, will be nice to have Lankinen back at full speed, so they can spell each other off. I don't think simply rolling Demko once he got back was the plan.

I get that a RHD is more what the team needs right now rather than a LHD. But long term, with Willander coming, a 2nd pair LHD is absolutely what the team needs. There's your 2 top 4 dmen that the club has been needing right there. My vote is to not spend assets on a rental RHD, but spend them on a youngish LHD with club control. Then slot Willander in and you've got a D core of hughes/hronek, byram/willander, and soucy/myers. NOT bad!

Ray is fantastic! I would hire this guy if I ran an NHL franchise, but the coach is responsible for their style of play, too - not just their preparation! And Tocchet has instructed a passive zone coverage and weak back check system that is responsible for their slow starts, low offensive output and their stars struggling. Just watch how they get scored on - they’re weak away from the puck and give teams way too much time and space while trying to protect the guts/middle of the ice. That’s not a player problem - it’s a coaching system that is consistently breaking down!

While I seldom disagree with Ray, I don't think that Kakko and Byram are equivalent players, plus winger vs D are not equivalent either. BUT Byram is also not a 1st rounder + Roster level player either.

I don’t think Ray has been paying attention to Byram. He has 18 points in 32 games. I haven’t been watching him but a point producing, puck moving defender who is 23 will get a healthy return.

I like and respect Ray Ferraro's opinions, but when your wife is the Assistant GM of the Canucks there are definitely lines he can't cross. Ray has to tread lightly. He can't talk about the huge problem the Canucks have with the player they have made their leading franchise superstar, and one of the Top 10 Highest Paid players in the NHL. Ray can't speak the truth: Elias Petterson is highly over-rated and isn't worth the $3 million more than Miller, Hughes, Boeser, and the rest. Petterson is NOT on the same elite level as McDavid, Mackinnon, Matthews, Dreistal, Nylander, and all the other Top 10. His goals/assists production right now is really poor compared to the huge expectations. Quinn Hughes and the third and fourth lines are scoring the goals lately and winning games and doing the hard work instead of guys like Petterson. And this is dragging down the team. Rutherford and Allvin have made a big mistake and it's really too bad for the future of Canucks.

You do realise that if hughes or Miller signed when Petey did they would get more a lot more than petey did. They just have shit agents and Petey was smart to sign a bridge deal. Has more to do with contract timing. There's no way boeser deserves that money he's barely even broke 70 points only once.

My Utah team is quite good, and getting better. Mgr Bill Armstrong is in 5th yr of build and the team will very likely make a lotta noise soon, maybe even this season. The team is loaded with prospects and the core is solid. Mr Bill I'd Da Man !

@@About36Greekss That's absolutely a fair assessment, but my perspective is that he's still the top producing forward on our team, so it still makes sense to me that he makes the most money. It's true that the Pettersson contract seems to have aged poorly but I'd bet on the issue being systemic, that is to do with ownership, management or coaching, rather than on locker room drama or players losing motivation, because as you said, the entire team is underperforming. Anyway, I don't think blaming Petey is the right call.

A great problem the Canucks have is Lanks outplaying Demko,and possibly relegating a multi million dollar (injury prone) star goalie to backup..Obviously Lanks is gonna want a few sheets per next season… Personally I’m keeping Lanks
