Donny Schmit Motocross World Championship

Schmit shocked the world, and perhaps even himself, with his immediate success on the world circuit. He won four Grands Prix en route to earning the 1990 125cc World Motocross Championship. The dashing blond American quickly became a favorite rider among the European fans.
In 1991, he won three GPs and looked well on his way to defending his title. But an injury suffered at the Hungary GP forced him to miss a good portion of the season and kept him from repeating as world champ.
In 1992, Schmit looked for new challenges in the 250cc Motocross World Championship, and it was there that he struck gold again. That season, riding for Yamaha, Schmit won his second world title, tallying five 250 GP wins along the way. He stayed with Yamaha for the next two seasons and even though he won three more 250cc Grand Prix races, he never regained the world title.
Donny was diagnosed with leukemia. He died on January 19, 1996, at the age of 29. America lost one of its nicest motocross heroes.

At the San Diego supercross musta been 1987 I was hanging out In the riders/team manager area of the stadium and Donny and I started talking and we watched the 250 main. Super cool dude I was happy to hear that he smoked the euros his first year over there. He deserved to live longer. RIP

When I was a kid back in 92 I had Yamaha 80cc with the small wheels but what made it special was that I had Donny's old handlebar from his 250cc in it. There was a world champs race back in 91 or 92 in Heinola Finland and Donny crashed there. The mechanic gave the bent handlebar to my dad who happened to be watching his work. He straightened it back at home and rest is history. I was so happy back then.

Avevo la tua produzione vhs con la review della stagione 1992, sono nato nel 1990. Credo di averla vista un milione di volte, stamani per caso ho trovato questo video con la seconda parte quando Donnie è nel team Rinaldi. Appena è partita la musica e le immagini è partita anche la lacrimuccia. Sarebbe bello rivederla tutta quella vhs.

What year? They sucked In the mid to late 80s but early 90s got much better

@@EmperorNerox they got GREAT in 89, but they still won alot early and mid 80s, dont know after mid 90s, i got old lol

@@gregswoboda5535 the 85 86 87 rms were terrible slow and the brakes were atrocious. They had good suspension. Hondas were the best by far . Yea maybe 89 they were good I don't recall I switched to road racing around then.

@@EmperorNerox Yea, i raced an 86 RM 125 once, i dont believe the rear brakes even worked,, (won anyway) Then i got 2 ex factory Rick Simmett factory honda's year old (87 and 88) then got my 90 RM and wow,, I won constantly on it.
