Donovan’s I AM THE SHAMAN recorded in David Lynch’s Asymetrical Studios in LA and the video directed by David Lynch.
Donovan plays his acoustic guitar ‘Kelly‘ and sings .
David plays his unique Modal Chord Guitar Textures and effects.
This most unusual Poetic Song written by Donovan was recorded in David Lynch's LA Studio, produced by David with his engineer and fellow mixer Dean Hurley. The video directed by David Lynch.
Listen to the song everywhere
donovandiscs.l...
Donovan says
'It was all impromptu. I visited the studio and David said ...
'Sit at the mics with your guitar Don'.
David in same room behind control desk with my Linda.
He had asked me to only bring in a song just emerging, not anywhere near finished.
We would see what happens. It happened!
I composed extempore ... the verses came naturally. New chord patterns effortlessly appeared.
On another day David 'Sound Sculpted' my Ferrington acoustic guitar 'Kelly' and he played his unique Modal Chord Ferrington Guitar textures with ‘Effects'.
David and I are 'Compadres' on a creative path rarely travelled.
And we bring TM Meditation to the world.
This Collaboration between David & I is an Appeal for Donations to help Donovan & Linda give TM Meditation to Cork Students.

The deluxe 200 limited I AM THE SHAMAN 12 inch single vinyl is now SOLD OUT.
We still have special CD’S available:

I AM THE SHAMAN
Yon wheeling of great stars has cast a silver web around my heart
On an Elfin Sea in a Ship of Filigree
And look upon her prow - a sign upon her brow
She guides us on our way when hearts they go astray
Lorelei Lorelei who will dry your pretty eyes
Lorelei as you fly around those starry skies
Lorelei why O why why O why O Lorelei
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
All those wheeling of great stars they cast a spell on me
As I wander through the stars Linda Love and me
I don’t know how I got here but I know where I go
As I wander all I know all I know
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman

This has quickly grown into my top 20 tunes of all time. It's just so 'Donovan' and to me he IS the Shaman. He's always been there, from when I was 10 to present. I became a session musician because of him. And when I bumped into him after watching him play in Manchester, UK he was cemented in my heart. I shook his hand but was so in awe that I couldn't string a sentence together so he clapped his other hand on mine, laughed and gave me a hug. I was only 20 at the time and probably looked like a thug! Don is a deity.

Forever love Donovan. He is the last of a very rare breed. A breed of writer/dreamer/poet/musician so rare we cant even put a name to it. Those glory days of the 60's are gone, but he's still with us. Its a miracle that he's still standing, period. Let alone still standing strong in his conviction of who he is. Which in a word is different. Different is what we need. His catalog of work is so vast, so precious, and so brilliant. Still singing of stars and the sea. :) Thank you from the very DEPTHS of the ocean of my heart Donovan. You have always been my #1 inspiration. I came here because of a dream I just had tonight. It was towards the end of it, I was driving down a hill on a narrow road. I realized it was narrow due to the cars that were jam packed going the other direction. When I got to the bottom, we went over a bridge and came to a wall that had a painting on a white tunnel. That is where the road ended, but the painting looked like the road kept going. My friends were scared to go through the painting. Said we would never return if we did, but I kept going anyway. I drove right throgh the wall and we kept riding on the highway, but I instantly woke up. The dream just ended there. All while that was happening "The Hurdy Gurdy" man was playing in my dream. The whole experience was quite ominous and gave me chills. I'm not a mystic person, but the experience made me think. This song is hauntingly great.

My journey with Donovan began in the mid sixties, walking along a beautiful beach, transistor radio to my ear, Sunshine Superman playing to sounds of breaking waves and seagulls. Roll forward over half a century, several concerts seen and all records purchased and heard many times. Now we have this! Totally amazing and still mind blowingly great. Donovan, minstrel and guru, poet and mentor, you have guided me through my life's journey. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

As ethereal as this is, it's also very Earthy, of the Earth. I can feel the living roots. But there is also the water. It is transcendent. This is where hearts go when they go astray. Thank you David and Donavan.❤🌷

Really wish he would do some live performances in this vein. These days when he does shows it's always a night of reminiscing and playing old hits, which is always nice but I really crave some mystic vibes and organic psychedelic soul like this from the master.

Funny, I bought a copy of Donovan's Mellow Yellow album today at a great record shop in North Adams MA, got home and listened to side one with my wife. Excited to hear some songs from Donovan I hadn't heard in years, Writer in the Sand especially. I turn on youtube and what do you know? New Donovan, and it is good, cosmic wheels a rollin' across the sky, somehow leading me back to Donovan. I'm cool with that.

A fantastic Donovan/David Lynch mind-meld. Of course they’re perfect collaborators. Donovan has always known who he is and has never given in to the whims of the music industry or the sniping of his detractors. He was and remains a singular voice, and his music carries vivid associations and memories for me. How wonderful to see him still creating, still dreaming.

Donovan .. a true Original.. I'm so into Open Road at this moment. People still laugh at me to this day when I tell them that this man is leaps and bounds above Dylan ( no disrespect) as a songwriter/artist. Donovan really has no equal in terms of originality,, production and creative output. Thanks man .. you've been doing this since before I was born and I am grateful indeed.

Funny to think David Lynch is supporting the "troubadour" Donovan. Who was our romantic icon, with his great ballads in our hearts and thoughts. Wish he would have kept singing tunes as To Try for the Sun, Little Tin Soldier, To Sing for You, Catch the Wind or Universal Soldier. Liked as well his Remember the Alamo, though there's is too Johnny Cash version, which is a good one. But Donovan had répertoire enough to remain hearing and buying him. For me, he was kind of a dreamer, but an interesting and sensitive one. I keep hearing this first Donovan, and am still open to anything else he can create. A poet with a clean and friendly, and clever mind. Nice music, to think and feel. Wish you all the best, dear pal. And thanks so many for your nice company. 🙄😇🙏🆗✔️
