I think that's the reason it wasn't implemented actually. A Kirby game's main common enemy never gives a copy ability, so imagine if animal was in the game but the enemies that are literally wild animals didn't give it to you? That would be incredibly confusing and disappointing. So it got the boot. Hurts my heart as much as you, but it made sense. 😔

I remember reading that Animal was planned for Forgotten Land. However, since the main enemy type for Forgotten Land were animals, damn near every enemy would have to give the Animal Copy Ability, so they just substituted it for Drill.

Yeah, every enemy being an animal doesn't guarantee that they would give Animal. Kirby 64 has a whole volcano enemy that gives Stone instead of Fire.

Especially given the true ending, I could see Claroline and Leon gifting Kirby the "Animal ability" that would effectively let him attack like the Beast pack bosses and allow him to climb walls indefinitely. Like Meta Knight's sword in AMazing Mirror and the triple wand in Squeak Squad.

I was ass at dodging so i just beat everyone with Rock, but I couldn't manage to hit Marx's Soul so I decided to just stay in a corner as a rock and make it a companion whenever he used the Paint attack so i could get Paint, damage him, and then become rock again. It took a while

As a child, I used to dislike the fact that KSS merged Burning with Fire and (only in Super Star (Ultra)'s case but not Squeak Squad) Freeze with Ice as well! Why? Because not only did I initially think that *The More The Merrier* applied to how many different copy-abilities have I always wished that one single Kirby game should've had (because they always keep cutting & omitting past copy-abilities), but I also thought it was a very funny idea to split both the Fire and Ice elements into two separate copy-abilities depending on which enemy or mid-boss across the Kirby series is swallowed! But the biggest reason as to why I used to miss having Burning and Freeze as their own separate copy-abilities is because I really loved having Kirby wear a flame-tiara alongside flames on his hands, and especially Kirby wearing Popo's Indigo Parka (from Ice Climber) when using those forgotten separate abilities. However, as I grew older later in the 2010s, my opinion on that change has changed a-lot, and now I'm actually glad that Burning and Freeze are often merged with Fire and Ice because it's a very wonderful idea to give several of Kirby's copy abilities a more versatile moveset rather than limiting them to just one or two styles of attacks from way back in Kirby's Pre-2007 generation games (except KSS), thus deeming Burning and Freeze as their own separate copy abilities to become somewhat useless and unnecessary, in all honesty. (Sorry if this comment was too long)

I don't think wild animals being the main enemy should have been the main problem with including Animal. There's already an Animal ability midboss, so it could have just been a miniboss exclusive, like Hammer used to be. I always thought it wouldn't work because 2d digging would have been hard to make 3d, if at all, but Drill is a fun ability, so who knows. Maybe animal hats really would be too confusing.

Artist is also a reference in ability to Adeleine from Kirby 64. As in certain levels she would paint food and it would pop out as an item so Kirby could heal any damage he may have taken. She was also a boss prior to being friended and she would paint enemies into existence to fight before getting a health bar And being beaten in a single attack XD

I wanna see them bring back an updated version of ghost and magic from squeak squad. Ghost was fun but limited, of course keep the enemy possession mechanic and hovering but add some more spectral and spooky themed attacks to the moveset. Like maybe an attack that could slowly drain an enemies vitality or slow them down, scare a foe (to death), guarding would make you go incorporeal so enemies pass right through you (think Tacs guard in Super Star), stuff like that! Also hope to see the circus ability come back at some point, that was a fun one to use

Drill is more an updated stone for a 3d game. The main attack for both is to go from a vulnerable state to invulnerable, and both feature stones as an attack. They just made the correct choice to turn it into a movement focused ability for forgotten land.

There are two opportunities for painter in superstar: the lobster miniboss shown here and the chameleon boss at other points in the game. And while it's a screen nuke for most enemies: it is an instant story win against the lobster miniboss since you blind it with paint; and against the chameleon boss it forces a color change revealing their location for a few attacks before going invisible again.

I believe the Drill ability in F.L was a reference and technically a replacement to the drill combo in Crystal Shards, being Stone + Needle And funnily it's technically the same with *unused* abilities being redesigned, like the ones that went unused for Super Star Bravo being brought back in a way in the form of Festival in Star Allies Card and Donate being brought back as well with a rename, Card being Magic in Amazing Mirror (even having cards as an attack later in Squeak Squad), and Donate being Doctor in Robobot And Grenade (yes, *Grenade*) being assumably redesigned to Bomb, but also brought back to an extent in the form of Dynamite (Bomb + Stone), though it lives on through Jungle Bomb in Super Star (maybe though)

CORRECTION YOU DO NOT ONLY GET IT FROM ONE MINIBOSS. You also get it from the Chameleon guy, arguably primarily; there's more opportunities from him to get the Painter ability(he spits out 3 rainbow balls at once as an attack IIRC). AND when you inhale 2 copy ability enemies at once, you can get almost any copy ability(maybe even Crash? I think so), I believe including Painter. - Sincerely, a very passionate Kirby (Super Star Ultra) fan P.S. Someone from the comments said you can also get it from Marx Soul and I trust that guy. NEVER beat True Arena but hey, now I have some advice on that!

You can also get paint from Cameleo Arm's color gobs he spits out. It'll not only deal damage but change it's color, and make him incapable of turning invisible for the rest of the fight

There’s some obscure copy abilities although I don’t know if they’ve been replaced. UFO, Ghost, Cupid, Copy, and Jet. UFO appeared in epic yarn, as did a drill transformation similar to animal. Cupid kinda got replaced with archer. Jet got replaced with Mecha.

Awkchually 🤓 you can also get the Paint ability from the chameleon boss if you swallow its colorful balls that it spits out, and the paint attack will actually have an effect on the boss by giving it color when it is invisible revealing its location. So yes, you can get the ability from two bosses and not just from Heavy Lobster. Edit: You can get it from 3 bosses in Superstar Ultra.

Story time! I only remember this very vividly tho Ok, so back when I was younger, around like maybe 10 or 11ish (I'm 15 as of currently) where I didn't know jackshit about video games and strategy and kind of just button mashed my way through games. My dad actually had an old Gameboy he used to let me play on, with a buncha different games too! You got the classics like Super Mario, Yoshi's island, etc. And then there was Kirby Squeek Squad. It was my first time ever hearing about Kirby, since my family didn't really let me on the Internet besides watching youtube videos. I thought the game was really charming and cute! I often mimic'd the copy abilities from the game for fun, one of them being Animal since I had a Raccoon hat thingy and I could used some old pencils as claws. Idk why I commented this but thanks for listening to my neurodivergent rant lol
