100% right. Last year, a good friend of mine moved from northwest Indiana down to Kentucky. After settling in, he invited a few of his friends from the hoosier state to ride down for a quick trip to east Tennessee and Tail of the Dragon. I think maybe 5-8 people said they would be down to meet up for the ride, ut when the weekend came, every single one of them backed out. to be honest, even I wasn't sure that I was up to the ride, since that was the longest ride I'd ever done, but I figured what the hell - if I don't feel I can make it, I can always just turn around and go back home. 10 hours later, I was cruising through eastern Kentucky, having the time of my life. the next day, we rode out to the Dragon. I spent the night in Gatlinburg, rested up and headed home the next morning. Did I learn some valuable lessons about myself and long distance riding? Yes. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.

I did an 1800 mile trip a few years ago to see my grand kids by myself. Second time I had done it and would rather ride by myself. First trip my buddy at work had just passed away, gave me a lot of time to contemplate life without interruption from anyone. You also can ride as fast/slow, as long as you want without worrying about other people

That initial feeling is normal. I’ve been riding for a long time now. I’ve also been riding Harley’s for 16 years and I still get that anxious feeling for the first 20 minutes of riding. My wife just started riding about two years now and it was the first thing that she mentioned. I gave her the same advice. What your doing is something that is not natural to your mind thus it takes a few minutes to settle into the groove.

I’ve enjoyed many solo trips on my bike! Being on my own schedule and pace is very relaxing. I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life on the road as I have ridden through the Rockies, Smokey Mountains, Gulf Coast, down to Key West, through the Appalachian Mountains and much more. Love to ride with friends but totally comfortable traveling alone.

Just the words I needed to hear mate... I'm from the UK and been saving and patiently waiting for over fifteen years to see the USA by way of motorcycle. Mortgage, job, family, dogs. It all had to come first but now I'm finally free to hit the road. In April this year I'll be flying my bike into JFK, then down to Key West. Followed by 3-months and 14000+ miles of open road. I'll hit 26 states by the time I finish in San Diego. Am I nervous, damn right. Will I still go. ABSOLUTELY!

Just came across this video. I prefer to ride with others but far to often others are not available for various reasons, job, family, etc. Rather than not go, I pack my Road King 👑 up and become a king of the road. You brought up some great points! Bottom line if you prepare properly, riding alone maybe not be as much fun as riding with others but it’s still fun!! FYI - I am 76 years old.

I know I'm a little late to the party here. First I would like to praise your mom. We all are a product of our up bringing. I can see in you, that your mom did an amazing job. You can tell she was a kind soul because I see that in you. I feel her ticket to heaven was a first class one with honors! I myself had a near fatal wreck in my Sport Bike on July 10th 2016. I feel asleep somehow and simply tried to take the offroad route....unknowingly! My whole left side of my body was obliterated. I nearly lost my left leg below the knee but God graced me and provided a Doctor that was able to piece it back together. A major shoulder surgery followed that along with years of issues due to the head injury I suffered. Luckily I did not buy cheap gear and my helmet was the safest helmet for that time otherwise I probably would not be here or I could be using only half my brain.......more so than normal of course. The upside is that I enjoy riding more now than before the wreck. I am more attentive to my surroundings and for damn sure my body. We all have bad things in our lives that happen that we can learn from. This taught me that life can be short, shit happens. But when shit happens you just clean it up and soldier on. You don't hide from what hurt you, you ride the shit out of it until you can't anymore. Don't let trivial things stop you from enjoying life. If you have to go it alone do so. Don't let fear guide you, let fear teach you. I am glad I got turned on to your channel. I seriously admire you man! One day, God willing, I hope we cross paths at some point. I want to give you a huge handshake and a huge hug. You're an inspiration for many that fear the unknown. I, like you< embrace the fear. Peace and love brother........and I do mean brother. I got your six anytime! Peace Army has a new faithful member.....for life!

I agree on almost all points. Planning and having a level of confidence is key to long distance. You gotta know you'll make it. You can't hit a gym and run 5 miles on the belt and bench 200 in round 1. You need to train. Build muscle memory, stamina and confidence. TAKE THE MSF SAFETY COURSE. A huge confidence boost in itself, and will train you to look where you want to be ( a must in riding and life) and the proper technique to make it happen. Knowing your bike is key. If you don't know, regular checkups and scheduled maintainance at a service place you trust is vital. Gear is important every ride. Dress for the slide, not the ride. I've been down once. My noggin is fine, the Arai was not. Plenty of good gear at reasonable prices on the web. Go live. Life is not risk free. Keep on G Kue. I'm enjoying your vlog and your attitude. You got the tiger by the tail brah.

I haven't ridden a motorcycle before and watching your video's as well as others. This country is beautiful and I want to do that. Even though I have never ridden before I always go and start it and check the bike over . Funny as it may seem I have my owners manual in my hand and looking and following some instructions on maintaining the bike. I appreciate any tips you may have I know I asked before but I trust your info my brother. 1st thing I learned from a fellow youtuber Robert Simmons was to change put those plastic swing arm cover that Harley has on their touring bike to Furagati Design swing arm covers which I bought with the quickness and waiting for them to arrive.

Bro - that’s great advice. Appreciate your real talk man. I just got back from a long road trip and now heading to Americade in Sept….solo trip unless some of dudes wanna cruise. Either way, I’m out next month. Thanks again good brother.

Money and leaving my animals hold us back. I am retired so I have the time. Been to Arkansas twice this summer and looking to get to Tennessee. We rode with another couple for the Arkansas ride but going solo for the next trip.

I prefer to ride alone which is a good thing as all my buds have quit riding due to their age. I'll start my 73rd year next week and my wife is getting a bit nervous about my riding. Time will tell... time will tell. I gave up the big heavy cruisers a few years ago, but any bike can hurt you.

Amen brother... I would love to ride with a group but I do not hesitate to ride alone. I may be riding to Oklahoma from NC in July I'm trying to get a group together but I may end up riding alone.

Got dam man your speech is spot on as far as people discouraging you to ride far by your myself but every time I ask other people to ride with me on a long trip it's always some B's excuse and I said screw this I want to do a long distance trip I went to Daytona from Philly loved every bit of it but my dream trip is to do cross country trip so this year I got the vacation time and I'm riding to Sturgis south Dakota from Philly 1700 miles one way everyone I asked b!tch and complained about going all they want to do is make excuses so I said the hell with it I'm riding my Kawasaki Vulcan voyager over there I'm super excited for this coming August and either this year or next key west is next up also I had a accident on my sport bike broken pelvis so I definitely understand your struggle with your accident but guys like you and queen sit shadetree surgeon you guys inspired me to do this trip
