$100 Petsmart AQUARIUM, is made of PLASTIC!
It was Black Friday, my 4 year old loves fish tanks and saw this Petsmart brand (TopFin) aquarium kit that he really wanted! I bought it only to take it home unbox it, review it and then realize the whole bottom of the tank is flimsy plastic! If my little one wasn’t so excited to set this up in his room, I would be much more upset.

If the bottom is plastic - what does it matter if it's sitting on a solid surface? Isn't the weight of the water is supported by the surface below the base

No because the bottom isn’t completely flat, there’s a half in lip between that thin plastic bottom and the lip of the thick lining of the bottom. So it doesn’t sit completely flat

Never had an issue. I have one myself, it's a pretty good deal considering what u get. Holds just fine. Not going to put anything heavy for landscape in it, but it works good.

I own this exact aquarium lolz it is filled to the brim and one pound of substrate if not less, with a couple of plants and rock decor. I have not had any problems. It may be plastic but it seems to have a ton of capacity I feel like this dude is just used to high quality stuff 😂 topfin is a more affordable brand so I don't judge him lolz

Plastic can handle more than a glass bottom because of the gauge of plastic and type of plastic used.

I had an aquarium very similar, won it in a raffle it was ok but the plastic bottom was not raised it sat flush on the cabbenit. Could you take the bottom trim off to make it flat bottom so it wont flex on its self?

That’s a great point brother! I’m going to look around the garage, I’m sure I can fabricate something to help reinforce the bottom a bit. I want to go crazy and build an elaborate scape so I definitely don’t want to have to worry about that freakin thin plastic! Haha

It is not an LED light indicator on the hang on the back filter. It is a float that turns a blue and red gauge

I have the 20 gallon hexagon top fin aquarium. I’m am at the moment dealing with a large leak coming from the BOTTOM where that plastic part meets the glass (go figure) and yes it feels HELLA flimsy. Like - you touch it and your like… seriously? How is this going to whole 20 gallons 🥹 but I definitely put it to the test by adding a big bag of fluval stratum (18lbs) and probably a 15 lb mopani wood. Needless to say I had a leak in less than 6 months. These are not amazing aquariums and it’s super stressful to move a WHOLE community of fish that are used to a cycled tank into a temporary home. Uhg

I bought both top fin 10 gallon tall and long rectangular tanks both cheaper than the half moon the tall is definitely better quality than the long but for the price I’m pretty happy with both it was a way to get my gf’s bettas better tanks and afew extra fish and back into the hobby....and now I’m looking at the topfin 55gallon lol

Can't find em anymore here, and I like them. The crappy accessories aside it's a nice piece of glass I'm not going to be able to get for a dollar a gallon. There are ways to make them work, with enough circulation and the right stocking (a longfinned betta LIKES a tall tank, with enough leaves near the surface for resting) and can support a lot of dithers and a few amanos or panda corys).

@@user-sq9xo6bl6w update I actually ended up returning the tank cuz it’s not really goldfish or tropical fish friendly the circulation was really strong and when I switched to either fish they both wouldn’t go to the top of the water. They would chill at the bottom so I had to change the filter to a much less strong one

if anyone wants a much more affordable version, tetra sells a half moon tank thats 35$ CAD, it is only three gallons, but it comes with an air pump, large aesthetic air stone, a filter, the tank, a submersible led with different light modes, and tons of extra tubing, it’s available on amazon and works great for shrimp, snails, bettas, and probably a lot more!

@@UnconventionalAquatics I've had only the lightest petco/petsmart decor and I've had them for 6yr and they've held up, but not heavy decor, had to take white stone out do to the tail of the fish it cut there finn's bad, so I just have basic decor now for about 3yr...would this help you???😎👊👊

If you have not had too much experience with setting up fish tanks, you don’t actually understand why he feels uneasy. Normally, there is a lip on the bottom of tank that is about 1/2” or more deep. So an air gap per-say. So when water is added to the tank the pressure of that water will make that plastic sag down, creating stress on the sides of the tank and then a possible leak. With a cheaply built tank like that, I think I would cut a piece of wood the shape of that area underneath and fit it there for support. Not lifting the tank, but to fill in that gap and support the weight of that water as if it were on a flat surface. My suggestion. I have been in this hobby since I was about 6-7 years old and I’m 58 now. Learned quit a bit along my time. I hope to find the video of your setup for this tank. Good review. I found you cause i was searching for a video related to a top fin aquarium that I got at goodwill somewhat brand new in a corner style with a bowed front. I love it but I can’t even guess exactly what size it is. It’s not 10, more like 20-26 gallon tall. I’ve seen the short wider ones. This is more of a tall tank that’s all glass. Im hoping to set it up as a nano reef.
