About the birthday wishes... I think the difference is that in English you literally wish someone a happy (birth)day, whereas in Germany you congratulate someone that they have another birthday. You wouldn't congratulate someone for their wedding or passing their exam before the wedding or the exam in English neither, right?

As a German, I do not ask my guests to take their shoes off - and I often forget that with other people. Having said that: When people have carpets in their house, I usually remove my shoes. There are no carpets in my house. The Sauna thing is true - but you are allowed to wrap a towel around your private parts. Also: I have walked across red lights - but only when I was absolutely sure there was no car coming - which is only the case on like Sundays before 7 AM or in very small places where the light is only useful during Rush Hours.

In Japan they also take off their shoes at home. That´s in many cultures I think. You mentioned two already. I also take mine off at home at the entrance (but inside there is a place for them) but not walk through the house with them. @15:00 Well sometimes the quiet hours can also be the happy hours. 😆

The quiet hours thing is a bit strange. I have lived in 7 different apartments in Germany by now. I had plenty of neighboars who were loud until 1-2+ am occasionally, who turned on loud music in the middle of the night, but in the last apartment I moved into, a few weeks after I moved in I dropped something on the floor at around 11 pm. I didn't even feel that it was very loud, not louder than traffic outside, but the neighbour from below rang my doorbell. I did not want to open, because I had no idea who it would be at that time and I was tired and only in my underwear, but when I met them on the stairs 2 days later the complained and asked what happened.

The so-called Nazi anthem does NOT come from the Nazis! “The Song of the Germans” - as it was originally called - was written in 1841 by the poet Hoffmann von Fallersleben to the music of Joseph Hyden! There was NO German nation back then - Germany was a confederation of counties, principalities, duchies, grand duchies and kingdoms - each with its own units of measurement and currencies! The threat of the French claiming territory in the Rhineland sparked a national movement to create a unified German republic! The verse: "...from the Maas to the Memel, from the Etsch to the Belt, Germany, Germany above everything, above everything in the world!" is intended to illustrate the urgency and necessity of a united German nation - this goal should be above all other concerns and have absolute priority (...above everything in the world)!!! Only with the founding of the German Empire in 1871 did Germany become a unified nation! The Nazis reinterpreted the meaning of the text in their own way - the alleged superiority of Germany (and the Germans) over all other nations in the world and thus Germany's claim to world domination!

Water is not free all over the world. Somewhere in the calculation, the costs for "free water" are factual. Still water without bubbles is everywhere.

Just to clearify... the "Old German national anthem" wasn't "The Nazi anthem" but the German anthem used for about 100 yrs.. and also by the Nazis.. But after all the nationalist shit that happens it would be appropiate to have a national anthem that praised borders that don't exist anymore and is putting Germany "over everything". So they just cut it down to the 3rd verse. ^^
