Ya, here in Wisconsin, I love the wood clunk noise, the popping of a stubborn piece of firewood and two stroke oil smell.

Indeed don’t get ripped off! Any delivery you get of a cord must be a larger truck usually with high sides or large dump trailer!

Thanks Jay. I did not know what a face cord was until now. You made it super easy to understand.

To avoid this issue when selling. Stack it properly and let it dry. Then when it is time to load up you know you have the exact amount you are promising the customer. I typically toss an extra 20-30 pieces in the bed of my truck, to make up for any pockets that they may say they see that want filled. Ground may be slightly sloped so doesn't stack the same... etc. Rather leave them with a bit extra and get good reviews than a bad rap saying I short people in sales.
@HomesteadJay8 ай бұрын
Yeah I do the same! This was just to show a full stacked bed isnt a full cord but I do what you said! Stack it in a rack, let dry, then sell!

Great video, nice information there!! I just moved into a new house and I was talking to the landlord about the energy prices and especially firewood prices and then he just said that he could get some dry firewood for me free of charge although I would have to chop it myself (which is also nice I get to decide what size the firewoods gonna be.)

Hey jay! Great video Up here in canada land we call that a “bush cord” A face cord for us is 4x8 but only 16inches (or one row) deep And it’s a whopping $85-100/per now days Wild. Glad we have the boiler to take the big stuff I went with 24” split rounds this year Can’t wait for heating season!
@HomesteadJay Жыл бұрын
Interesting stuff! Same rate around here 300-400 a cord! 100 ish for a face cord!
@jrmorrissey207 Жыл бұрын
Barton... Can you imagine buying and hauling wood, then bucking it all up, carrying it to the splitter, splitting it, stacking it, keeping it for a year to season on your property, loading the truck, and then delivering it for less than $100? If so, you're living in a world long gone by. Not to mention his gas, truck damage, insurance, saws, oil, gas for saws, risk taken doing a dangerous job with saws and heavy trees, tractor costs to move wood. People need a get a clue about what is involved making firewood. Or you could get all the stuff and cut split and stack it yourself. A "Bush cord isn't anything, maybe some local meaning. It's either a cord, which is a real full cord, or it's a percentage of a full cord.... "half cord" "1/3 cord".

If it was heaped up in the middle it might’ve filled up the last rack. also, I noticed it wasn’t loaded all the way to the tailgate. Yes that’s the biggest load on a pick up truck I’ve ever seen. I’ve had close to that much in my long bed, but I didn’t have bed slats . I bet it’s a handful driving on a curvy road.😂 be careful out there
@HomesteadJay8 ай бұрын
Haha that was the point even almost PERFECT stacked wood in a 8ft bed its still not a full cord lol
@jrmorrissey207 Жыл бұрын
All that stacking work to fill the truck, then, pull it all apart and stack it again. Damn. Just throw it in the truck bed and stack it when you get home. I know it will hold a little more stacked, but there is no way in hell that's worth the time and energy to double stack.
@HomesteadJay Жыл бұрын
The purpose of this video was to show you buying a pickup truck load even if its STACKED it still doesnt measure up to a cord!
@KevinHarvey-qw5mj2 күн бұрын
The people i sold firewood to we had a price for a 6 foot boxes and 8 foot boxes had a price extra for stacking had very few complaints if someone said something i would tell them go elsewhere cause it don't eat no oats and my wood was sold by picked loads everyone is different selling wood i don't burn people know what you talking about in your area not mine been selling since before you were born and still have same customers so must be doing something right selling for 4o years 7:28

Enjoying the videos - Currently in the process of installing my own boiler. Haven't seen the truck in many other video's, but what is the payload capacity of that truck, is it a heavy duty? Cherry is a very light wood, but green, a cord is still about 3700 pounds - if seasoned it will be around 3,000 pounds. Just be careful if you get some (white) oak - could be over 5,500 pounds for a green cord.

Its a 2500HD and it was heavy LOL I wish I could meaure the weight indeed!
@brucebannerman68488 ай бұрын
I don't mean to be rude but, face cord is a term invented to make a buyer happy with less wood than he paid for. Some States have regulations that firewood must be sold by the cord or part of a cord, example one third,half,three quarters etc. Also, your Dad stacked that load as if he was buying it himself!
@HomesteadJay8 ай бұрын
Haha indeed Ive heard of that before. Here in NH a face cord is 1/3 a cord. Pops did stack that efficient too lol
@KNIGHTFOX80 Жыл бұрын
Anyone buying the firewood for sale in my area would have to be on some good drugs or have no idea what they're doing with the insane prices it's all being sold for. Fireplace chords which are only about 1/4 of a full chord are being sold around $200. If you can find the guys who are delivering popcorns with a tractor trailer you'd be able to buy 10 times the wood for the money. It would be cheaper for me to heat with my propane furnace all year than to try to buy wood for my boiler from these nut jobs. I brought about 5 to 7 chords a season.
@HomesteadJay Жыл бұрын
Yeah the prices are insane here too in NH! Ive seen seasoned cords for $425 which is insane if you ask me! Hope you find some good wood for a good price!
