Sisterlocs are only called that because of the certified stylist who established them and the tool they used. They don't own the grid. It's a brand. If your stylist is not "Sisterlocs Certified" then LEGALLY you can't call them that. You'd have to call them microlocs. However, they are the same thing. Thank you for this video because I was contemplating DIYing my own microlocs using QueenEleem's method but I started second guessing myself. This just reconfirmed that I can do it myself. Thank you!

This deserves a pin 📌 beautiful vivid explanation, I could not have said it any better. I honestly thought the grid pattern belonged to the sisterlocks trademark...thank you soooo much for the clarification. And yea QueenEleem did a FANATASTIC job on her DIY microlocs, I say take a deep breath and for it darling!! 🙋🏽‍♀️..Keep me posted on your decision🙂..and thanks for watching hun!💖

Girl yes! Locs are suppose to be natural, not perfect. I’ve been natural for 6 years and just installed my own “microlocs”. The whole sister loc thing is too complicated and too expensive. Nobody is going to be looking at your head to make sure your “GRID” is on point 😂 locs are locs!

Thanks sis! Great vid. I started my locs with two strand twists and I'm glad I did. No grid and my parts are by no means straight- but I own it 😂 and I love the different sizes and fullness. I did get a professional retie and cleanup; but I can maintain myself if need be. Love the options and diversity in the loc game 💪

It took me 3 days and I started mines with braids. I’m so in love with them. When you said “self sufficiency” 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 yess Queen!! I started my microlocs 3 years ago, and my reasoning for doing them myself is I wanted to still be able to do my own hair. Hello from Toronto, Canada. I have braidlocs that were done by a certified sisterlocks locitican. I have the same grid and she maintains it by interlocking. Even tho it was done like sisterlocks and often gets mistaken for it, I always clarify that it’s Braidlocks. Shoutout to everyone including yourself that maintains their own locs, it’s really inspiring!

Hey Shanty!👋🏽 Shout-out to Toronto!🙌🏽,Oh snap that’s pretty interesting that you got a certified Sisterlocks loctitian to establish your braidlocks. I’ve heard stories of certified loctitians being so dedicated to the “brand” that anything outside of using that tool is a no-go. But I like how you make it known you got braidlocks💪🏽, from your pic they are gorgeous and T-I-N-YYYYYY lol. Hope your enjoying your braidlocks journey love and of course thanks for watching!💖

Subscribed to your channel, from NJ! I am on my 3rd set of locs (my first 2 sets were Sisterlocks, which I took down due to thinning from health issues). I am now self-maintaining my diy microlocs, that I started with two-strand twists, interlocks, and even some braidlocs. The area of my head, and the curl pattern of that area, were the determining factors on how each particular section of locs were established. Now, 5 months in, they all look the same, and you can’t even tell which are which!

Since my big chop back in 2013 I've been caring for my own hair and at this point I couldn't imagine it any other way. I also love the fact that should I need to get help from a stylist or professional I can tell them exactly what I've been doing with my hair. Agreed! There's no right or wrong way to start. I chose the sisterlock route because I know I could not do neat parts and wanted interlocks which at the time I couldn't do...but so many of these DIY microlocs look absolutely awesome! It really boils down to what works for your lifestyle. I have learned to retie my hair just in case I ever have to do it myself...currently I'm digging the 2 1/2 hrs for someone else to do these 600 locs.. but that can change up real quick. I'm only at year 1.

Check this out: I have had them all accept Braidlocs. I have had 2 sets of Sisterlocks, traditional locs started palm rolled, 2 strand twist, and coils. I have had free form and I am in the process of combing out semi-free form locs. I have been natural since 1995. I have worn an afro, and every damn natural style there is. I have owned a natural salon and been Sisterlock trained. Therefore, to answer your question about what makes SisterLocks, Sisterlock is this or should I say use to be this: the Sisterlock tool and the Sisterlock grid pattern and the different locing patterns (4 , 3, reverse 4 and double 3 patterns) and the price tag. But now everybody has seen and leaned the grid and you can buy a Nappy Loc tools and her book that give the same patterns but call it something else, north, south, east etc with the rotations. Lastly, it's 2020 it doesn't matter how you maintain your Sisterlocks as long as you or your installer produce a consistent pattern without any gaps. If you get gaps in your Sisterlocks they will eventually break off, bunch, shad out instead of in. just a hot mess over time. I am getting braid loc next and for the last time (getting too old to start over again) because from my experience installing braid locs on others, the install will stay consistent because no no locking pattern needs to be determined it's a braid 3 strands. Some installers get fatigued and miss a rotation here and there with interlocks and Sisterlocks when establishing/installing all the extra small loc. Also, Braidloc can be maintained with any tool and Sisterlocks can too. I use to retie SisterLocks with a Nappy Loc tool (much easier and quicker for me). At end of the day, you are right they all will end up the same locs. I personally call them all MICRO LOCS PERIOD.

@@LaZy3LocD You are welcome, yes it's been many years in the game and truly it's been complicated for no damn reason. Just be glad that it is 2020, because back in 1999 when I got my training in Sisterlocks, it was hell. Also, the certification process honestly wasn't and still is not about saying a person have expertise in producing Sisterlocks and I'm going to leave it at that. Back then if we Sisterlocked trained technicians tried to share this information about Sisterlocks like I just did, girl! You would have Joanne’s occult members literally stalking, calling your home or shop threatening to whoop your ass all day everyday! She was trying to sue everybody too. Thank God she got old and her dye hard Sisterlock team is old (they should be hitting their 60’s) and the creation of all these different social media platforms grew and saturated the foolishness. They use to go hard for Joanne tho! They were like the 🙈 monkeys 🙊 going hard for the bad witch in the movie The Wizard of Oz Lol I sided with the the Nappy Locs. I wasn't going to be part of anything remotely reassembling Fascism. Lol no sheep here lol We have our own minds and creativity and no chick was going tell me what, when and how I was going to conduct my hair 💈 business. I have mad stories I can tell you during that period. I must say, I do appreciate Joanne coming up with the process of SisterLocks. It opened the doors 🚪 for women of any economic and educational background ground to be able to make unlimited amounts of potential money sitting on a stool in the privacy of ones home. Her method and business platform got a lot of single women with children out of proviety and even abusive situations These women started to live better lives, lives they never thought possible and that's one of the main reasons they went hard for her. However, Joann is narcissistic and she use the hell out of them especially the poor uneducated women to do her negative self absorbed bidding and that was the terrible part. However, it’s still just another method that one can chose to loc hair down and their should never be any hard core set rules to how you start, maintain them or even change up the grid to suite your clients head needs Lol Enjoy your platform and keep up the good work! Open them folk eyes! ✌️ Peace Sis!

Loving your energy! #newsubbie in Florida 😍 I’m new to micro locs. Going this route cause my hair is fine/thin and the coils won’t stay 😞 I refuse to pay thousands for hair that grows outta my head. Congrats to those that do. To each they own. (But they way my checking & savings is set up) 😂🤣😂 I can’t do it. @@user-zx1ii7vf2z true but its important to know that even if you cant diy neat sections and cant find anyone to do it for you or dont have the funds you can still (with the help of youtube) have beautifull microlocs even if the grid is not perfect. I've read that sometimes the grid dissappears too without that negatively effecting the health of the locs. Melissa blakes, a former sisterlocksconsultants does microlocs without a grid with her knotted locks method. When locs mature the hairs know better to grow into the locs. Some women are to insecure and falsely believe they can never achieve this themselves and thats a shame and sad. Just because company's make it seem like a very complicated technique. While the hammertribe in ethiopia, africa have been doing gorgeous microlocs without all the rules. If you can (box)braid your hair or twist it, you can do your own microlocs. Perfection is not always neccesary for beautifull results. But i agree with you that the better the foundation the easier.

Greetings from Oregon. Number one, you’re gorgeous and your vibe is amazing! Going to start micro braid locs after researching for a few years. I love your sentiments on locs. I like how you address how early on in the game in youtube it was like you HAVE to go to a loctician or your locs will fail, that intimidated me a lot but in the last year or so I’ve seen much more promotion and support of diy locs and I really appreciate this video! It definitely gave me some confidence. I’ve been doing my own small braids with braiding hair for a few years after moving here and learning it was time to be self sufficient when it came to my hair and I’m super juiced to start my locs and continuing to follow the journey of other amazing women like yourself. New subbie here! I am contemplating microlocs. I think the whole sisterlocks thing is overrated...again my own opinion. People can normally charge the most $ because the average person doesn't typically know how to do it. It's just like any other style until people start learning how to do it themselves there is a premium cost associated with it.

PattiLaPalma * I’m debating between the two also. My hair is fine 3c-4a curl pattern. I want my locs tiny so I know that it will cost an arm and leg😬 I asked my mom to come stay a week since she retire and come help me because she’s also great at parting. Chile, she said she’ll rather pay for me to go to a professional cuz that’s too much work 😂

I’m glad you made this post. It was very confirming. Finances made it necessary for me to diy and so glad I did. Everything you said is “gospel”. It is very time consuming ....tedious ...that “gridding” process is a nightmare ... (why God decided to NOT provide us with a pair of eyes in the back of our heads is a mystery to me) and finally the “spiritual connection” with my hair that I had not expected. It’s been a very enlightening experience. Thanks!

Hey Vanessa! 👋🏽...im laughing at your “pair of eyes in the back of our heads” comment 😂, but yea nobody should feel ashamed or discouraged just because they can’t invest hundreds of $’s for a branded establishment. Shout-out to you for taking charge and doing it yourself 🙂 and I promise you as long as you give your locs TLC and connect to your gonna love the journey! Thanks for commenting Vanessa💖

Tunning in from New Mexico! You have sisterlocks because of the grid technique. The sister below said they dont own the grid but they actually do. Thats what its all about besides the tool they use and the fact that the person doing it is actually certified to do so. A lot goes off into their system that we dont see. I have MicroLocs that I started myself years ago without knowing that I was doing micro locs lol.
@LaZy3LocD
@LaZy3LocD 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Comely 👋🏽, shout out to New Mexico!🙌🏽so the grid does make it sisterlocks right? Because I was always thinking it was the tool and how the tool was used that made it sisterlocks lol. And I think that’s cool how you were already ahead of the curve before microlocs were even a thing lol😄👌🏽

Watching from Nairobi. Confused and i just dont know which locks to put. I used to have parmed hair but after stroke last September, i don't want to go through the parming process. Which would you advise
@LaZy3LocD

Hey Winnie! Sorry for getting to you so late, but I would say go with the sisterlocks or microlocs. I actually started my locs on relaxed hair with about 3 inches of new growth. You wanna take it easy especially with your health being a factor. I would go Sisterlocks/Microlocs for sure! Hope this helps 🙂

Look at it this way- If you bought some Nike Sneakers & dyed them - they would still be Nikes. If you bought a car & had to replace car parts as they Broke down you still call the car by they make/model. So call your locs Sister Locks if you want to & if you don't want to - don't🤷🏽‍♀️

It's the grind, size and pattern. there's actually no difference in a certified consultant and a trainee. Both have the same training and technique. The certified just paid more money to get certified so she can charge MORE.😆
